Couple Charged For Leaving Dog In Hot Car
Horst Hoefinger

A couple in Waltham, MA left their 3 year old  french bulldog in a hot car for over a half hour while they were at the shopping mall.  They called the police when they returned to their car  and found she was “limp and unconscious”.

When police arrived at the scene, the dog was taken to Watertown Animal Hospital. Doctors tried to revive her but failed.

A doctor told police that the dog’s temperature was in excess of 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Normal body temperature for dogs ranges from 100.5 to 102.5 F.

The couple told the police they took their dog with them because they were afraid she would pee in the house if left home alone.  If you’re not intelligent enough to know to buy your dog a crate rather than putting her in an unattended hot car you should not be allowed to own animals.  Let’s just hope these people don’t have children.

Animal Control Officer Karen O’Reilly said causing an animal to be subjected to unnecessary cruelty or suffering is a felony in Massachusetts, and is punishable by imprisonment for up to two and a half years and a fine of $2,500.

With any luck, this couple will have the next 912 days behind bars to think about that fateful decision.

This is so sad. I doubt they will stay in prison for too long even if they end up behind bars. They should not be allowed to own another animal after this!

When will people learn, that you can’t leave dogs, cats or small children locked in hot cars.

Jail time is not good enough for them…. they need to Hot Box, like in the movie Cool Hand Luke

In the BOX … … IDIOTS

I still can’t believe that people are still this stupid ! What do they think, just because a dog pants doesn’t mean they won’t get heat stoke !
They need to be put in a hot car for a few hours to see what it’s like ! Maybe then they will understand !

That poor poor pup dying like that and not being able to open the door for air. My heart breaks for these poor animals with owners that don’t use their brain.

It is heartbreaking that people do this to dogs and children. Unfortunately there is no mandatory IQ test to have either. There is enough news coverage of these incidents that everyone should know the dangers in doing something like this. I doubt they will get anything more than a fine, if that.

My heart hurts. The pain and fear that poor pup must have endured. What else can you say about something like this?

  8. ICEMAN

This is ridiculous, and it happens all the time. Nothing will be done to these people and it is a shame.

When I have my dog with me, I will leave the keys in the car, set the e-brake and turn the a/c on. I have a spare set of keys (door and ignition) that I keep in my wallet, and a viper alarm with an ignition kill remote, and a tamper pager. Im not saying that everyone should do this, but if you are going to take ur animals with you be prepared! We depend on our animals to be our friends and to protect us, why is it such astretch for us to do the same?

You should have to take a test to have a pet or a kid!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is ashame that a person could be so low as to leave a doggie in a hot car. Would they want to be put in a hot box and not let out??? No!!! They would scream for help. I think they should realize a dog has feelings and a dog can get sick or die from heat exhaustion. How low can a human go?? That is the question and we all know the answer.

What the hell is wrong with people…..

This kind of thing makes me mad. I would rather have my dog pee on my carpet than have him die in a hot car. If it was such an issue, why didn’t one of them stay home with the poor dog. And what happens to the dog when they go to work? Some people should not be allowed to have pets. Animals are not possessions. They are living, breathing creatures that feel pain and suffering, as well as joy and happiness. This dog is an angel now and I hope his owners pay big time for this.

This is to Iceman. In 2003 a police dog in Texas was left in the car with the air-conditioning running. The air-conditioner shut down and began blowing hot air. The air system’s compressor kicked off because the engine got too hot. Many cars, including modern models with computerized functions, are prone to the same problem. Needless to say, the dog died. In August 2004 a North Carolina couple lost two of their beloved dogs, and nearly lost a third as a result of a similar failure. PLEASE, if it is hot outside, leave your dog home if you can’t take him in with you. It takes only minutes for an animal to die when the temperature is 76 outside it will turn 160 in a car.
