Missing Blue
Horst Hoefinger

After the update on the woman from Tarpon Springs, FL getting 60 of her dogs back I received a moving letter from my friend Paddy Boy.  He, along with mom Nancy, are fostering one of the dogs that were removed.  Cinnamon, their foster girl, is a two year old Pomeranian who was used and abused at the puppy mill.  She was bred too many times and as a result is dealing with many medical issues.  Under the loving care of her foster family, and with proper medical attention,  she was finally starting to get well and now she may be handed back to the person that hurt her.

Paddy sent me an entry from his diary that’s a tribute to Cinnamon and all her companions that were removed from the deplorable conditions in Tarpon Springs.

For my friend, Cinnamon and all her pals; Imagine this if- you can….

You are living in a cage; small crowded space. You have been there your entire life. You have never been outside; you have no concept of the world except for your imprisonment.

You have no place to relieve yourself except for that cage; neither does anyone else. It smells rotten in there but you have no other choice. The food comes and you fight to get some but when you start to chew, it hurts because your teeth are rotting. You give up; you go lay down if you can find room. You try and sleep on your side but that is agony because of the lumps on your right side. You try and lay on your left but it makes your painful ear worse.

You have it bad but others have it worse. The two-year old female next to you can barely walk with her bloody paws. The one next to her can’t breathe from a collapsed trachea. Is this what life is really like? Do you want to exist anymore.

Can you imagine living like this????

One day you wake up and these people come. You are really scared and become more frightened when they start to take you away. You can’t help wondering if you are going to another place as bad as the one you are leaving.
You arrive at your new destination. They speak softly to you as they bathe the horrible smells away. They give you your own bowl of food and it is soft so that you can eat it. They tend to your hurts. They take you outside to this wonderful place and you sniff the grass for the first time. You want to thank them but you are still scared. You approach and they touch you lovingly. God, this is wonderful, you think. You slink up to the first person and she whispers “good dog”. You don’t really know what that means but the tone of her voice is so pleasing. You lick her hand and she begins to cry. I think she knows what you have endured. You are lucky you have survived.

IMAGINE LIVING LIKE THIS???? Imagine this as if it were your life and tell me truthfully if you can ever let this happen again.

STOP THE FLORIDA PUPPY MILL BREEDER NOW….Stop Theresita Hughes from getting these 121 puppies back; they deserve so much better!!!

Thank you Paddy for the insight into the life of a puppy mill dog.  Thank you Nancy for putting action behind your words,  for taking in a foster dog that needed your help.  We commend you both.

I am heartbroken. I have sent letters to the Judge involved in the case, who is a documented Animal Hater. I have sent letters to Theresita’s Hughe’s attorney asking him how can he sleep at night. I have written letters to the Governor as well asking him to intervene on behalf of the dogs.

Now, after reading this I am sad, crying and wish I could help Nancy.

The sad thing is I googled Theresita’s name and her internet site for her pups is up and running. I am sick to know that she got away with not paying $100,000.00 in vet bills, which should have been a stipulation in giving the dogs back to her, she is getting away scot free… makes me angry and more than a little disappointed with the State of Florida’s Judicial System.

I am sorry for your sadness, I am with you on your anger. I suggest all that are upset to send letters to the Pinellas County Court System asking for a retrial and asking the judge Myra Scott McNary ruling to be dismissed due to prejudiced.

We need to wake up legislators to the rights of animals, send the pictures from the puppy mill… shock and awe them into retrying this case. Also, those who live in the State of Florida should be equally upset since she used a public defender to defend her in this case. She has made nothing but profit from the abuse of these dogs….

I know many love dogs and feel for the pain of each and every abused puppy mill dog. I do believe that each of the members can make a difference in this case.

The Suncoast Animal League took possession of the dogs in April. The animals were said to be in deplorable conditions.
But the judge ruled the Suncoast Animal League did not have the proper paper work when they took the dogs…

We, the undersigned, respectfully request the judgment in favor of the return of 60 dogs to Teresita Hughes as ordered by Judge Myra Scott McNary be overturned. Ms. Hughes callous disregard for the welfare of the animals is evidenced in the video of the seizure and by testimony of a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputy Carolyn Wagner that the animals had insufficient air or exercise and their food was tainted with feces. Living in filthy and deplorable conditions, the dogs which counted six to eight per cage were crowded and forced to live in rooms with little ventilation where the stench of urine and feces made your eyes tear and your nose burn. Hughes admitted to not allowing the dogs out of their cages for “at least the past four months,” proof they had spent endless days walking only on wire-bottom cages. $100,000 in veterinary fees paid for by public donations to a rescue organization is testimony to the condition of the animals when they were seized.

Further, we ask that Ms. Hughes be prosecuted to the full extent of the law in accordance with the following:

FLORIDA ANTI CRUELTY LAW Florida Statute 828.12 et seq.
CRUELTY TO ANIMALS is defined as: “Overloads, overdrives, torments, deprives of necessary sustenance or shelter, or unnecessarily mutilates, or kills any animal, or causes the same to be done, or carries in or upon any vehicle, or otherwise, any animal in a cruel or inhumane manner”. This is a 1st Degree Misdemeanor with a fine up to $5000 and/or imprisonment up to 1 year. INTENTIONAL ANIMAL CRUELTY is defined as: “commits an act to any animal which results in the cruel death, or excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering.” This is a 3rd Degree Felony with a fine up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 5 years. Intentional Cruelty with “knowing and intentional torture or torment of an animal that injures, mutilates, or kills the animal” carries a minimum fine of $2500 and completion of a psychological or anger management treatment program

To return the animals, now vetted courtesy of INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS, with required weekly visits by the Humane Society, paid for by OUR TAXES, so that Ms. Hughes can continue to profit from her breeding business is a travesty of justice and a huge slap in the face to all of us who PAY OUR OWN BILLS.
We pray you will “do the right thing” for those who are totally at your mercy.

    Tara,

I have signed your petition. Thank you for the good work. May I suggest you also send a letter to Florida Governor Charlie Crist…. I will send you a copy I forwarded to his office for his review.

Please make note… when reading the feed from the news station Bay 9, in the comments someone who know of Judge Myra Scott McNary has posted she hates animals… if Judge McNary was an actual professional she would have recused herself from the trial because she is biased.

Please look for my email to the governor in your hotmail account for reference.

Thank you for starting the petition

  5. Kenyon's mom

This makes me want to puke. What is WRONG with people? Why is this even a minor glitch to not have “proper” paperwork when considering the evil this nasty woman brought upon these animals for the love of a dollar?

I have signed the petition which leaves me feeling useless and empty. I know that this woman is getting the dogs back no matter how much I fuss or fight. I know it like I knew it when we had to turn a dragged chihuahua back over to its “owner” after his physical wounds had healed and the court sent him back to his hell. I was as nauseated then as I am now. We had more than 5000 signatures on a petition, and in the end the signatures didn’t matter at all to the judge who said the law was “in favor of the owner.”

What has happened to us? Why is it ok to torture a living being? Dear God, please let me be wrong. Please let these animals remain in their loving foster homes. Oh, I am just sick.

To quote Judge Judy…”there is a special place in Hell for those that mistreat animals and until you get there you will have to deal with me”.

I am sickened to think they can be returned to such a life ! I am a dog lover and lost one of my little guys, I’m still grieving. I hope my website helps out.

  9. droopy & mommie

i look at my dog, droopy, and i start to cry. i can’t believe , well, sorry yes i can believe, but i don’t want to, that people can hurt innocent dogs who do nothing more than just give true love. i thought i knew what love was, well i did not, until i got droopy. my dog showed me the true meaning of love and true friendship. its horrible what those dogs have gone through. i can’t put into words the pain i feel for them, but my heart is completely torn up when i read about this and see their sweet innocent , but oh so sad and scared faces.i can’t believe this judge, animal lover or not, can let these poor dogs go back to that hell. i don’t care if u love animals or not, she is suppossed to be a professional and uphold the law…she is clearly more than just a non lover of dogs, she is a person with no heart at all. no right to be a judge, none. anybody that can look at what these dogs have been through and send them back to go through it again is a sick and evil heartless person. i have other words for her but i can’t use them on here. i just pray that somehow this is stopped and does not happen. may god be with all those dogs….i just don’t know what else to say….this just makes me sick inside.

  10. DMD

This makes my heart and body literally sick. A Paperwork “glitch” over rules Humane treatment???Why didn’t they give them an extension to meet court demands? So many fight this each day and we stand with you. Power of the Paw must prevail. Our love prayers and signitures are with you all rescue, foster and all fighting for these pups and all furs in need.

  11. Mack

So, they didn’t have the “proper paperwork”? Yeah, that sounds like logical thinking. Isn’t there some sort of exception that can be made if animals are in immediate danger?

If those were kids, they wouldn’t leave them there! That’s ludicrous.

I agree with the quote by Judge Judy.

  12. Maayan Gordon

This is a very sad story. it should have never happened that way

  13. Kim & Coco

All concerned… I sent a letter to the Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist. Below is his response to my email.

    Dear Ms. Weis-Tharp:

Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist. The Governor is sorry to learn you are dissatisfied with the decision of a Florida judge and asked me to respond on his behalf.

Judicial misconduct is handled by the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC). The commission considers situations where it is alleged that a judge’s personal conduct and behavior violated the Code of Judicial Conduct. All complaints must be put in writing. The commission’s address is 1110 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32303. If you need to ask preliminary questions, the telephone number is 850-488-1581.

Unless the judge has violated the Code of Judicial Conduct, the commission cannot review cases where people disagree with judges’ decisions. Those unhappy with judicial rulings should speak with a private attorney about what appellate procedures may be available.

Thank you again for writing. Governor Crist hopes this situation can be resolved to your satisfaction.

    Sincerely,

    Cole Hoopingarner
