Tarpon Springs Woman To Get 60 Dogs Back
Horst Hoefinger

A few days back I posted a story,  Faces Of A Puppy Mill: Read The Amazing Stories Behind The Faces,  on the 121 dogs that were seized from the woman in Tarpon Springs, FL. The dogs had been taken to the Suncoast Animal League where foster homes were found to care for them and nurse them back to health. The dogs were doing very well with the love and care of the volunteers who took them in.

The Suncoast Animal League took possession of the dogs in April. The animals were said to be in deplorable conditions.

Now, I received a disturbing update from Dogster member Jessica (proud mom of Chanel), that a judge ruled 60 of the dogs seized must go back to this woman.

A woman who had 120 dogs seized from her Tarpon Springs home will get 60 of them back, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Although the Suncoast Animal League, who went in and seized the dogs, had permission from a county judge they did not have Pinellas County commissioners permission which is stated in the law. Rick Chaboudy,  Suncoast’s Executive Director, will try to get permission and go back to a judge for custody.

The dogs’ owner Teresita Hughes admits she had too many dogs but her attorney says it was an illegal search in the first place.

“I’ve been doing this for 20 something years and it’s never been a issue,” he said. “So this caught me completely by surprise.”

I think the biggest surprise is that a woman who kept 121 dogs in deplorable conditions is going to get any of them back. These dogs have extreme medical conditions and two have already died.  Let’s hope that one piece of paper doesn’t stand in the way of getting justice for these dogs.

I don’t get it? So she had 121 dogs in horrible conditions and now she’s getting 60 of them back? I wonder what changed or what’s wrong with the judge that’s allowing this to happen to those dogs. How sad.

Are you freaking joking… these dogs were rescued from terrible conditions and what kind of legal system do we have to send these pups back to their abuser.

I swear that it is small thinking, I think if the judge was taken to the location of the puppy mill to look at the squalid conditions and the stink of the cages, the fear in the dog’s eyes, the fact that those dogs are just breeding machines they would change their mind. I am of the opinion that people don’t see the value of dogs that they are companions to humans, they feel and hurt, they love and forgive. I am appalled, sad and wish there was more we could do to stop her from breeding dogs for financial gain.

I am sick and really upset at the turn in events…

Sadly any of these pieces of dog sh*t that are willing to spend money hiring an attorney, usually have a good chance at getting their animals back. The reason is simple, according to law, dogs are considered property. So unless that law gets changed, I don’t see how much hope we have for putting these people out of business.

OMG!!! The dogs finally know what normal life feels like now they have to go back……this is aweful…..some one should hide the dogs or say that they ran off or lost!!!

i just got done reading all about this, i am sick and i am extremely angry at how these dogs have suffered. and now this jerk of a judge wants to send 60 of these poor little dogs back to their abuser!!!! what the he– is wrong with him. these dogs were mistreated and abused so horrible they didn’t even ever see daylight. i mean come on, kept at least 4 months straight locked up in wire-bottom cages, no sunlight, nothing!!! i mean these dogs knew no type of love or care. now they are getting love, and health care they so very much deserve. and you want to take that away from them and 60 of them !!!! even just sending back 1 would be appalling !!!! but 60 !!! i mean NONE should be given back to this BIT–!!!!!! i’m just so upset over how these dogs were treated. how dare anybody do this to innocent animals. i just don’t get it and i probally never will. there are sick people out there. i’d like a chance to meet this lady, i’d promise this, she’d never be able to have another animal in her life, i’ll leave it at that. god bless all these abused dogs and i pray that the many more out there find the love they so much deserve and that they find homes where they are cared for and can feel love and be safe.

If someone forgot to dot on I or cross a T then why just give back 60 of the pups, why not all 120 of them. I mean if your that anneal about the I’s and T’s then go all the way and mistreat all these poor pups. I’m sick of our lazy law makers. But mostly of the lazy puppy mill owners who cry because they don’t want to get a real job or even take care of the poor pups that are making a living for their lazy behinds. I will sign!!!!!

The timeline to return these poor innocent creatures is coming up fast. Everyone concerned should continue to write and talk about this story. Write to the media, politicians, anyone who will listen and help. Is this just to be a media story or will someone actually stand up and recognize that there are living, breathing creatures here. Why is it acceptable to get the healthiest half back and discard the sick and injured for others to care for? This is Teresita’s chance to allow someone to come behind her and clean up some of her mess. She states this is her “livlihood” yet there are reports that she owns 9 properties and can obviously afford a high-powered criminal defense attorney (who does what they do and represents scum). To allow this to continue is unaceeptable on any level but the only way these dogs (all of them) to to have everyone possible fight on their behalf.
