Horst Hoefinger

Do you ever wonder what food to feed your best friend?  There are so many brands of food available, and such a wide range of ingredients it can be a bit overwhelming.  Having three dogs, all different ages, and of varying size it’s hard to find one food suitable for all.  I was surfing the web and I came across a site called The Dog Food Project , it’s a great source of information.

Do you know exactly what you are  pouring into your dog’s bowl?  Do you wonder how your brand rates when it comes to price vs ingredient safety and quality.  Do you know what ingredients to avoid?  Find out the answers to these questions and more at The Dog Food Project.

    What can I say!
Unfortunately to speak out against the huge financial giants behind dry processed dog foods would have me losing all - my possessions, my health, my sanity and probably my most beloved dogs.
Dry dog food is convenient and it is rumoured that those who sell them have a good cut financially.
I feed my dogs a home made diet, and after the sequence of events that happened to convince me that I was doing the best for my dogs NOTHING will ever make me feed my dogs solely on dry food.
    Here goes ———–
3 years ago I took my heavily pregnant bitch for what I make in my breeding program a regular check up. It was the day before she was due to whelp and I wanted her to have just an overall check up to make sure she was 100% going into whelping.
I go to a rather large vet clinic and this time I got a relieving vet I had never seen before from an associate clinic. She performed the checkup on my bitch telling me along the way that she was in perfect condition to have her pups - that was until she asked me what I was feeding her.
In full confidence of my history with my vet clinic where I have discussed at length with the senior vet what I feed my dogs, and have had him reluctantly admit that “Fresh is Best” I told her that I fed a home made diet.
The expression on her face changed from one of pleasure at examining such a healthy bitch to her virtually abusing me because I didn’t feed my bitch a “processed diet.” She actually had the gaul to accuse me of abusing my dog because she wasn’t fed a science diet and she was a breeding bitch!!!!!! She told me that she couldn’t pass any comment on the condition or general health of my bitch going into whelping because I WAS ABUSING HER!
STRANGELY ENOUGH —— six months later I took the bitch puppy I had kept from the litter “my abused bitch” produced to have a regular check up I schedule for all my dogs in my kennel - and low and behold the vet who had accused me of abusing my breeding bitch summoned me into the consulting room.
She had obviously forgotten me - but I certainly hadn’t forgotten her!
She examined my 6 month old bitch puppy and then she frowned and ran her hands all over her skeletal structure once more. The frown lines increased on her brow further and at this point after the verbal barrage of accusations from her at our previous meeting I thought that there must have been something seriously wrong with my puppy. She stood back from my puppy that stood in a perfect show stance on the examination table and studied her in depth. The silence that filled the room seemed suffocating as I started to doubt myself and the diet I feed my dogs. She walked back up to the examination table and ran her hands thoroughly over my puppy one more time.
She looked up at me as she pulled my puppy’s tail out, as if trying to find even more ammunition to fire at me that “I ABUSED MY DOGS.”
The expression on her face wasn’t one of antagonism or confrontation as had been at our last meeting. Her expression was one of confusion and questioning.
“What do you feed this dog?” she asked quietly. “I can’t find any abnormal calciite growths anywhere on it’s skeletal structure.”
“A homemade diet,” I very calmly replied.

The main point to be made here is:)

I SO WISH I HAD DEVELOPED DRY DOG FOOD 25 YRS AGO.

I would now be a multi billionaire.
Each one of my dogs would have there own richly encrusted diamond dog collar (of at least 50 Karats for those special occasions). Each one of my dogs would have their own personal trainer, dietician, TV show, yatch in the pacific islands, publicity manager - Bella, you have to perform at Glastonbury this year, you’re the only DJ dog with psycho orange fur that has black streaks, and Amy Winehouse loves your music!

But that is just a fantasy:)

Rumour has it there’s BIG money in processed dog food - particularly the dry kind.

There are so many different foods. The website listed has a wonderful and very informative video on it. It is well worth taking the time to watch.

    It is a real eye-opener.

  4. Dog Cookies

Hi Everyone, I am another dog lover here, and I just thought i would let you all know that, my dogs just love these new amazing fortune cookies for dogs, and and they also sell Organic fortune cookies for dogs too .) so if you are interested in checking them out, there factory is located in Oakland, California and here is there web address, http://forniafortunecookies.com/dogs.htm

All the best, Dog Cookies .)

  5. Crunch

Crunch and I have boycotted PETCO and NUTRO do to a scary experience. Now we have NO IDEA were to buy his favorite cookies, those yummy duplex oreo type things at the treat bar, and also the carob chip cookies. He is a big baby and has to have his treats :) I refuse to go into a petco store or shop online!
Problem 2 is FOOD. As I said Crunch had a BAD reaction to Nutro… what is the best things to feed my 100 pound 6 month old American Bulldog? We switched over to Natural Balance kibble and rolls after I noticed the he would start heavy panting and constantantly drinking water after eating Nutro. You would have thought he just ran a 15 miles, then I also had problems with more than one box of Nutro Treats. So I just said FOR GET ABOUT IT! Nutro blamed petco, petco blamed nutro. I forwarded their reponses to each other asking who is to blame? That they are pointing the finger at the other company someone is to blame and still have not gotten a answer. Well… they both sent coupons..lol

Where is the best place to buy food, treats and toys. I don’t care if it’s online. I prefer to shop at individually owned businesses, I do not want to support anymore of these retail giants (as I sip my starbucks…lol, I’m working on that!)

Any ideas? I’ve even considered the RAW diet.. but I do have to pick up after my BIG baby so I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that :)

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
