Do You Bless Your Dog When He Sneezes?
My wife and I were out walking the dogs at the park earlier this evening when something interesting happened. Well, it wasn’t the most interesting thing that’s ever happened but I’ll mention it anyway.
Logan, our berner, sneezed. After he did, my wife and I both said, “Bless you” simultaneously. This happened as if on cue without either of us thinking anything of it.
That got me to wondering on the car ride home, do other owners out there also say “Bless you” (or if you’re a Seinfeld fan, “You’re so good-looking!”) when their dog sneezes?
So give it up…what do you do when your dog sneezes?

Usually ignore it, but sometimes my mom says bless you.
That is too funny, because I wondered the same thing. Yes, I say, ‘Bless you’ when Coco sneezes. She has allergies and for some reason she sneezes a lot first thing in the morning. It’s gotten so that I think she sneezes just to hear me say, “Bless you.” Thanks for asking this question, I’m looking forward to more responses — I’m sure we’re not alone.
Why yes of course I say “bless you” when they sneeze! Is there something wrong with that?? LOL
My dog is not an “it’! A chair is an “it,” not my dog.
Try “he or she.”
Of course I bless his little heart!! A church near my house has a blessing of the animals and I take BabyCakes to be blessed. I take every opportunity to do things to show my dog how much I love him (even if most of the time he looks at me like I’ve lost my mind)
So, Bless BabyCakes and all Fuzzy Friends!
Yes of course we say “Bless You”, to her when she sneezes
CORSE! I love my “little man” even though he is a GIANT! He is my baby, my booga booga! Bless you baby is what I normally say
:)) BOl, little man :))
Heather…yeah I had h/she in the title and then changed it to s/he and then got distracted by a bad Copper fart…next thing you know it was my brain that farted.
But I fixed it : )
Yep! I say “bless you” when Jesse sneezes
Hello all! Oh my goodness, I have never even given it a second thought about that! My family for sure always says Bless You when my little Sheltie Binx sneezes! After all, he is a part of the family you know!! Have a great day to all!!
Binx and Susan
Apparently mom thinks I’m dying, because when we sneeze she makes a big deal out of it and comes over to pet us. Of course she blesses us!
Yes, if one of my shibas - Tetsuya or Deshi sneezes I say, “Bless you sneezy boy.” If my Alaskan malamute Yukiko sneezes it is, “Bless you sneezy girl.”
Absolutely! Everyone and everydog gets a “Bless You” when they sneeze in our family. It’s funny because our dogs, when they sneeze, it’s usually 4 or 5 times in a row….so they get several bless YOU’s and lots of baby talk!
Cute story…it’s fun to read everyone’s replies!
ofcourse i do!! they deserve gods blessings as much as anybody else does!
Yep! Good to see we’re not alone!
When my dog sneezes I usually say “oh my goodness” or Bless You.
Yup, doggies tend to get a “gesundheit!” from me.
We also say “Bless You” whenever our Max sneezes. Funny but she can also sneeze on cue *lol* We noticed that whenever she wants something, she taps our knees and sneezes… now how clever is that?
Yup. I’m one of those people who says, “Bless you,” to my dog Reesee.
Dogs need a little blessing like we all get when we sneeze.
I always say God Bless You to my dog or any other animal I hear sneeze. I speak to Checkers as if he completely understands everything I say–I think believe he does!
I am also one of those people who say God Bless You to total strangers in restrooms, stores, or on the street! Most of the time it is met with a Thank you.
AMEN,Heather!!
I hate when people call dogs, especially their own dogs “it”!!
and yes, I tell them “bless you”
I SURE DO !!! I BLESS BOTH OF THEM ! ALL THE TIME !
I say Bless You and give my two furkids a kiss on the head.
You bet! And then I say, “Did you get somethin’ up your snoot?
Hahahaha… a friend of mine said that she says just “Bless” when her dog sneezes. I jokingly told her that I say just “You” when my dogs do. In reality I really don’t say much (except for “Eeeeeew!” if they sneeze in my face) but occasionally I’ll say “You!” just for giggles.
I just wanted to let everyone know about my site. http://www.ecocorn.net we sell 100% Biodegradable Doggie Waste Bags at very good prices. I am not sure if this type of post is allowed, but we are trying our best to save the environment. I hope you’ll have a look.
I usually say “Bless You My Child For You Have Sneezed” when my dog sneezes.
Yes!
We would say “bless’er” which would make her sneeze again and this would go on 4-6x until she did her big finale sneeze in which we would say “bless that pupper!” That phrase seemed appropriate and is on her headstone.
Mom always tells me Bless You when I sneeze. Daddy laughs at her but I think it is nice.
Yes I definately bless my Lucky when he sneezes. Then I ask him if he is getting sick. Now I can ask him if he is sick and he will sneeze. He is so smart sometimes if he does not want me to leave him he will follow me around sneezing.
Yes I do. I’m guilty of that
OF COURSE!! Just because they are our four-legged children doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be “blessed” when they sneeze!! =)
Yup, I too say Bless You to Emma when she sneezes. I say Thank You to her as well.
Most defiantly bless my dogs when they sneeze! And say it out loud, there so cute there so surprised when they do have a sneeze or two right in a row!!
Of course I say Bless you to both my pugs, Henry and Bella. Heck I say bless you to strangers who sneeze in the grocery store. Why wouldn’t I say it to my dogs too.
ah ha! someone else who remembers that seinfeld episode! my humom likes to say “you are so good-looking” when anyone…two or four legged…sneezes!
Okay, I was going to leave it alone because I didn’t think this was the appropriate place, but since I’m not able to email Heather or Jackson directly, I figured I’d go ahead and ask the question here — who called their fur baby “it?”
Dear Coco’s Mom…My husband, dog lover extraordinaire, had originally put he/she at the end of the title but thought it looked funny. He changed it without thinking to “it”. He did not mean “it” as in the dog being an it he meant “it” as in the dictionary meaning: used to represent a person or animal understood, previously mentioned, or about to be mentioned whose gender is unknown. Horst wrote a book for me for x-mas 2006 about Bo so that I would have something to memorialize his memories and cherish long after he’s gone. I think that pretty much shows his love of dogs. But don’t worry….I put him in the doghouse for the faux pas.
Thank you so much for clearing that up. I was wondering why the comments were made because I couldn’t find any post referring to their dog as ‘it’. Well, ‘it’ happens, and from what I just read, he really didn’t mean anything by it. I hope he’s out of the doghouse by now … smile!
I used to say “Bless you” when Ziggy sneezed and then would give him a tickle and a treat. His snorts and sneezes very quickly became his signal that it was definitely treat time and I’d better hop to it or he’d get into some mischief like dig in the wastebasket. Now he just gets a little pat or a cuddle - no blessing or treats. He was getting FAT!
We usually ignore it, but sometimes I’ll tell Sara bless you.
I say “my goodness!” or “bless you!” even though my old girl, Maggie, can’t hear me anymore! She does know I’m talking to her though, and she likes that.
