  1. Reggie

I have a tiny studio apartment. What are the LEAST gassy breeds???

  2. Martha

    Chihuahuas, Poms for sure…

  3. sara

I have a maltese/yorkie and she is NEVER gassy. also she is tiny, playful, smart and loving. probably make a good apartment dog.

  4. Rhon, Winston's Mum

Yup, we sure could call our bulldog,Big Win, our Big WIND! BOL

  5. lnbee

This list is incorrect. I had a female Rottweiler (not listed) who was extremely gassy. And they were SBD’s (silent but deadly). I now have a male German Shepherd (listed ) who has NEVER passed gas in his 4 year life!! Go figure.

  6. Kansas

What?? I am appauled! I have been blaming Noxious Odors on my dad for months! Hey Dogster…..how about keeping this kind of Top Secret info to yourself next time! All I need is my mom reading this and I’ll lose my spot in the bed. Geez.

  7. Karen

It’s all in the Dog Food folks. Our Bullies don’t have any gas on Canidae. Jiggs our male is gassy on Natural Balance.

  8. April

Are pugs number 6? BOL! (I love pugs!)

  9. Phat E. Dawg

I’m appalled. I don’t have gas. I make the house smell nicer.

It IS all in the food though, we aren’t gassy on our Wellness Core. =P

  10. Kenyon's mom

Dead squirrels, fish guts and rotten bird carcasses make for some slithering poots! =)

  11. Dante

I just switched Dante from Solid Gold to Canidae. He was super stinky on the SG but has been pretty much stink free on the Canidae. Not to mention his breath is better too! Gotta love Canidae!

  12. Cookie TN

BOL. Guilty as charged. (I’m a German Shepherd.) I started having gas less when my humans switched me to a food free of soy products.

  13. Rachel and the pack

They got that right! Samson (our GSD) clears the room REAL quick ;)

  14. Nelson

Thank you SO much for forgetting to put “Irish Setter” on the list. I just used to turn bright red when Dad would say that mine smelled so bad they peeled the paint off the walls.

    Gratefully,

    Nelson

  15. Shandi

Shandi is a Lab/ridgeback mix and she sure has alot of gas!

  16. Bambi

I’m not gassy, but my chi brother Peanutty sure is. BOL!!!

  17. Candyce

What are these owners feeding their dogs? The question just has to be asked.
I have multiple GSD’s. None of them ever have gas and I mainly feed a homemade diet of raw beef, offal, oatmeal, raw vegetables (carrot, pumpkin, peas and beans), garlic, oil, cider vinegar and a vitamin supplement, plus raw beef bones. My dogs coats are soft as, shine like the sun, they have high energy levels and NO GAS.
If anyone has a gassy dog they should really be looking at the quality of the food they’re feeding them.
If any of my dogs had gas I would be extremely worried about what was going on in their insides.

  18. Carissa

Ummm…where is the beagle? Someone defiantly overlooked the beagle. I don’t know if I can believe that there are gassier dogs than the beagle…if there are I sympathize.

  19. Tres

I’ve eaten Canidae — bad gas. I now eat Wellness Simple Solution — bad gas. Me and my papa can clear mama out of the room real quick!

  20. Makayla

CHIHUAHUA’S AND POM’S DO NOT STINK!

  21. Makayla

THE DOG FOOD(S) IS WHAT MAKES THE DOGS HAVE BAD STINKY GAS! DUH PPL! GO FIGURE!

  22. Masters of Mayhem's Mom

Just one question… who decides on how the breeds rank? Pardon the pun. I have four mastiffs, and I don’t think anybody could beat them in clearing the room. Except maybe the hubby after drinking beer and eating pickled eggs.

  23. Chachi Roo

ummmm…so where’s the Jack Russell Terrier? My big brother Kilo has REALLY BAD GAS! I can’t even lay under the same blanket with him (or Dad for that matter) because it’s like a gas chamber! The funny thing is that we all eat the same foods, but Kilo and Miss Pickles are stinky, and I am not.
    Pfffffffttttttttt…KILO!!!…STOP FARTING! Sheesh!

  24. Pat

    Greyhounds, powerful and they linger.

  25. Barley

Where is the Weim on this list? Barley is the gassiest dog in the whole world. I swear, food has nothing to do with it. We have tried everything—super high quality kibble, BARF, RAW, etc and he still farts. He’s the first dog I have ever known who has had really loud farts too.
When we first got him, I was talking to a woman from work and I told her we got a Weim. Literally, her reaction was “Oh, you got a fartin’ dog.” I’m like, “a what?” And she said, “yeah a fartin’ dog. You’ll smell…” Oh, and have I smelled….ugh!

  26. Miniature Pinscher

I only get gassy when they feed me garlic to ward off fleas. Oops!~

  27. Vanessa

Remington, an ACD passes gas normally - and it isn’t that bad. But he has had it on Nutro Max, Canidae, and Chicken Soup. The vet said some dogs just have gas. I know a pitbull mix who passes gas regularly too.

  28. B.B.(Fart-A-Lot)

I have a Dachshund. She has so much gas that I lose my apetite most of the time! She also has horrible breath! Her name B.B. stands for Butt Breath!!! We just figured that out the other day, she has a blue eye so I wanted to name her something that had something to do with blue or blueberry.

  29. Val

Are you certain that Beagles aren’t number one? I have a very gassy Beagle/JRT mix. Roscoe’s farts will knock you into next week! I promise there is a green cloud that hovers over his kennel when I let him out in the morning. It’s a wonder my Husky gets any sleep.

  30. Sophie

Where are Schnauzers on the list? I’m pretty non-smelly, but my sister Heidi can clear the room! And I have to share a cage with her! UGH!! She’ll be sitting on the living room rug and you’ll hear Pfffft. Then she’ll jump up and look at her butt like she sat on a duck or something. And her favorite thing to do is curl up in mommie’s lap and let a silent but violent one. Mommie will put her shirt over her nose and Heidi just sits there like she has no clue what’s going on. I wish I could speak up and tell them that I have to deal with it all day while they are at work. I’m the victim here!!

  31. Chachi

Once I was making fun of my brother burping his baby so I picked up Chachi and started patting his back gently after he ate and he burped!!!!! Everyone in the kitchen was stunned silent for a few seconds and then we all looked at eachother and laughed hard.

  32. Bruno, Gracie and family

we are boxers and a jack russell, we fart all the time! hehehe

  33. britney

I have a miniature schnauzer…she is very gassy!!

  34. Fur-Mom

I have found that a lot of the “gas” issues have to do with the food more that the breed. Some fur-kids are affected more by certain foods than others. I have 2 Chi x’s. One never has gas and the other kills me BOL!

  35. Jennifer

I have had 3 Boxers and a Boxer mix and they all fart. Loud farts, silent farts, long farts, deadly farts you name it! Sometimes the smell is so bad at night in bed we really can’t sleep at all. It is strong enough to wake you from a deep sleep. They have all been doing it on several different brands of food too. And I’m talking top of the line foods here. I did find out that beef is a worse odor than lamb. They are now all on lamb products.
I’ve had Pugs and they farted a little bit but the smell was nothing like these Boxers. And just think Boxer is only number 4! Wouldn’t want to smell those Bulldogs!

  36. Hedwig

I think Corgis are number 6 BOL!
Dont tell mom, but my sissy isnt the one doing the faurting in this house

  37. Anne

Since I got my dog 10 months ago, I have never once heard or smelled gas from her. Maybe I’m just lucky. My friends don’t believe me when I tell them this. Maybe they think I’m just bragging. “My dog doesn’t fart.” I guess if she does, she’s doing it when we are not together. What’s funny, though, if I pass gas, she flees the room. (thank goodness I can stay anonomous on this)

  38. Boss

I’m a boxer and i REEK! hee hee. Mom has to leave the room and i get to bask in the glory of my stench! (villainous cackle)

  39. Rollie

i’m a boston with serious stink issues. my mom put me on wellness specialized diet (single carb, single protein). what a difference!! now they don’t keep pushing me off the couch!

  40. Bella

I am a Min-Pin Pug mix…and I would have to say that I toot all the time, loud toots, but they don’t smell, they just are really noisy…Buy boy do I draw attention…

If any of the other dogs get carrots…then everyone is just plain nasty…carrot farts are the worst…

  41. Francisco

It really deppends on how you feed your dog. I have a bulldog and its not really that gassy. Of course I make sure to keep feeding him with a consistent food type. But I have to admit, if I switch the food too abruptly, he will defenitelly start smelling very fast.

  42. Hannah and Keelie

    You forgot french Bulldog!

  43. Robin P.

Chase our Boxer can clear the room! Silent BUTT deadly is his attack method!!!!

  44. Candi

I guess it all depends on your dog but overall this is probably all right because i’m sure they wouldn’t post this if it was incorrect!
I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she farts every once in a while but her farts are silent but deadly. You can never hear them but they smell really bad.

  45. Donna

My Bullmastiff Gus has one of the most sensitive digestive systems I’ve ever seen! Feed him anything out of his “ordinary” diet and WOW, do we know it!
But, I don’t mind….he’s my gassy, snorin’ bundle of joy!

  46. Tara

Our Lab/Basset (Bassador) is named Artemis. We call her Artemis Fartemis. Peeeeyeeewwwww.

  47. Tullia

I am a Boxer and I know I fart….. Mom quit giving me peanut butter - she says it makes my butt stink more than usual.

  48. Natascha

I love my bulldogs stinky farts!!

  49. Sneak Preview, Weather, and Flatulence - The Life and Times of Butler Blue II

[...] we can squeeze in a four-wheeler ride too!Weather aside and recreation, I was recently informed of Dogster’s Dog Blog and their research suggesting that the bulldog is the most flatulent breed of dogs. I just want to [...]

  50. Kelle

I don’t know why Japanese Chin aren’t on this list….probably just because they’re an uncommon breed. My 5 lb chin can clear a room….literally. I finally found food that isn’t so bad on his stomach, but my poker nights were threatened by his gas. My friends were like, you’ve got to do something about that!

  51. Krista

I work at a veterinary clinic, so I have smelled the worst of the worst. Indeed Bulldogs and Boxers are definitely at the top of the list. But one of the absolute WORST is our clinic dog, Pete, who is a Greyhound. He can stink up the entire building. We’ve changed his diet, but he has a very sensitive stomach, so we have to be careful not to cause “other” stinky problems. When he gets going, it lingers for hours. We spray Lysol and even industrial strength odor neutralizers, but it doesn’t even cut through the fog over his cage. We’ve determined that Sadam’s mustard gas has nothing on a Pete fart! He could wipe out a country with one toot!

  52. Nell Liquorman

Most farm animals produce a lot of gas, so we must wonder if these poor dogs are getting too much farm animal feed - you know, grain. Or just maybe too much fiber - usually the fillers in dry food. Unless the pet has a true health problem, I doubt that excess gas is natural. Most likely it is diet related. Just as our own systems are different, so are the systems of animals. What works well for one dog, may be problematic for another. The owner should know the pet better than anyone else. Carefull observation and a gradual change of diet may be all that is required to give these dogs some true relief.

Since I have a cat that reacts badly when wheat is present in her food, I must believe that this would not be a bad place to start when changing a pet’s diet. Some wheat free food, or one that limits corn content might be helpful.

If a pet is giving off truely offensive odors, I must believe that he is experiencing a lot of discomfort. Be kind and try to find a food that is easier to digest.

  53. zoey and buttercup

We have contests. We get under the covers and gag mom. Sometimes she gags us back. There is nothing in this world like a BTF (Boston Terrier Fart), 16 # of poop in a 15# package. :) lol

  54. Liz

my 13 year old PUG sure passes gas a lot, and boy are they stink bombs. He should be added to that list too. :)
I still love my stinky pug, he makes our lives happier

  55. Tracey

My parents have a chocolate lab, and she is so bad, she can make your eyes water. And it takes its time to go through the room, and it really lingers. Usually they are SBD’s. The funny part, is when she lets one rip, and then Duncan (my male sheltie) goes over to ground zero, and has to sniff her butt, like he is trying to figure out what that was, and where it came from!

BTW, my shelties do not fart. And I have 4, I would know!

  56. Lennon and Dreamer

Why aren’t Great Danes on this list..LOL!!! We are about the 2 gassiest dogs mom has ever seen..If its not coming out the back end we’re burping it out the front!!!

  57. Sue

It is definitely all in the food! When mom adopted me she bought the top STORE brand food (Purina One and Iams). Then she did more research and found out what the better foods really are. She is now VERY SLOWLY switching me over to Solid Gold and has been talking about Nutro Natural. I will admitt, I use to have stinky toots …. but not so much any more since I’m being fed a better quality kibble. Don’t always blame us doggies! Think about how bad gas you humans can get and what you ate and drank before it! :-P

  58. Molly's mom

It’s DEF in the food AND how it affects your dog’s system. This is a two pup household and only one of the girls ever has gas. She does not inhale it, as some gassy dogs do, but eats quite slowly. They have eaten high quality dog foods from the start and for the first couple of years tiny Molly could wake u up, from a deep sleep, with the smell or rather stench. We finally found a great food, they both love and BUH BYE toxic vapors, BOL! :))

  59. Donna

    I have a JRT…she could make a maggot gag!

  60. Pumpkin

They REALLY need to add rat terriers to this list! No matter what food i’m on I stink!!!!

  61. Sindy

I want a german shephard but i didnt no they smell bad!

  62. The Mouser

You’re right about the food. I use small bites since my bully dog inhales his food without chewing. I also get a brand with no grains. Grains create the gas. Also rawhide chews. My bully dog chews until it get just the size to swallow and down the whole thing goes. Lots of gas afterwards. I don’t give him many of these. My dog food is expensive, but I think spending $50 for food that lasts a month is doing pretty good.

  63. Jennifer

I agree! My Mastiff can be quite the stinky dog. He always acts like it was someone else:)

  64. Cloud's mommy

well i know my pommie is the least gassiest dog efur

  65. jhonebreeds

I have one pet dog i purchase the food in reputated stores only why because here the food is very neat and good i already tested the food. Thank you for giving this post.

  66. Nanjodogz

Are you sure Dobermans don’t top high on the list because my Lena’s farts can bring tears to your eyes — they’re often and deadly.

  67. cindy

Bostons go on that list for sure! But since I started feeding mine Natural Balance Potato and Duck, it is much much better!!! Try it! The dogs love it and it is soooooooooooo good for them too. Cheers!

  68. max's mom

blaming it on the dog!!! you should be ashamed!!! bol!!!

  69. max's mom

when max’s toots are audible, he always looks back at his butt like “what was that?”

  70. Zib's Mom

Well, schnauzers may not be on the top five but, my dog Zib is the gassiest dog I have ever known ( Silent but deadly) especailly when I am watching a good movie. Are dogs are supposible like us right? bol !!!

  71. tassy

    i think my pug thinks she’s a bulldog…

  72. Lexi's Mom

Lexi farts ALL THE TIME. Especially when she gets excited. They don’t smell, but they are LOUD!!!

  73. kate

my chocolate labrador is SOOOOOO gassy! He is constantly farting. LOL

  74. Bully Mom

I totally agree with the Bulldog being number one. My bully is not too bad when we stick to her regular diet but when you throw a treat into the mix… Watch out!!! The gas is enough to make you gag.

I also have to agree about Boxers. I have met a couple that could rival my bully girl. I would think they would be higher up on the list though.

  75. dino

well, i’ll have to disagree….coz i’m a gsd…& i don’t really fart anymore ( my peeps have stopped feeding me soy products!!!)

  76. Krista A.K.A bully mommy!

Yep I agree with that! I have 2 bullys and they are ALWAYS super gassy! ALWAYS! Its kinda funny though , it will be so quiet in the room and then they start up . LOL! Its suprising how loud it is!

  77. JEn

I’m surprised beagles and or pugs didn’t make the list! I have a puggle, and oh goodness, is she ever gassy!!!!! Oh gosh, she could clear out a room! hehe

  78. jen

wow i have a german shepherd !iw ouldnt of guessed!peace love and bones!

  79. laura

um……vizsla!?!? My vizsla pup is the loudest and smelliest of 5pjrts and a weimaraner. SMELLY!!!

  80. Berkeley

I’m an angel…but my big brother Tucker (mini pom) is MAJORLY stinky…he can clear a room!

  81. cassie

    hi people

  82. cassie

wats up i have a pup named molly aqua who is a golden

  83. cassie

    bol lol sol

  84. Marie

I have a black lab hound mix and she is so bad it burns my throat. I have to cover my nose and try not to breath. It is really toxic. I always have to go outside and get fresh air. It is pretty serious. I know it probably is the food but I’ve tried different ones and she is still doing it. Also when I change her food I do it very gradually. There is a couple of foods Ive seen on this website that I haven”t tried so I might do that. The next step is I think I will have to take her to the vet which I really can’t afford, but I will do that if necessary because I love her. Good luck to all of you and your pets out there.
