Adelante, California Police Seize and Kill Pit Bulls with No Apparent Motive
Joy

How terrible! My heart goes out to this family! And is this police force lying to cover up their own cowardice or laziness?

Please be warned that this is an upsetting article.

ADELANTO — When Michael Daniels returned from work Friday, he expected to be greeted at the door by his seven dogs.

Instead what he found was two o his dogs had been shot and killed by police. And Adelanto Animal Control officials seized and within hours euthanized his four other dogs.

While Daniels and his wife, Sherry, were devastated by the shooting death of two of their pit bulls, they are even more distraught over the fact that Adelanto Animal Control euthanized their remaining animals so quickly.

“They took and killed our dogs all within a matter of a few hours,” said Michael Daniels.

He said the dogs, three of which were puppies, were put down without any warning or notification — “Not even a note on our door.”

Typically, unless animals have been previously deemed as vicious by the courts, most animals are held pending an investigation, said Chuck Miller, Animal Control supervisor for the city of Hesperia. He is quick to point out that cities have their own policies.

This is not what happened in Adelanto.

According to Deputy Travis James, who was on the scene, the dogs were taken in because they were not registered and they did not know who they belonged to.

The four dogs, including the terrier, were then deemed vicious by the animal control officer and a threat to public safety so were destroyed, according to Aaron Palmer acting director of animal control and human resource director for the city.

While there have been no reports of the dogs biting anyone during the incident, Palmer said he cannot comment on specifics of the case.

“Our dogs were the sweetest animals and would never hurt anyone,” cried Sherry.

According to the Daniels this was the first time animal control had been called out to their home.

The Daniels had a total of seven dogs, three pit bulls belonged to their daughter who moved back home about a month and a half ago and three pit bulls and a small terrier belonged to the couple.

At about 10:30 a.m., Friday, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Adelanto deputies responded to a call at a home on Tolliver Street from Animal Control.

The dogs had chewed through the neighbor’s fence and were acting very aggressively, said Johnson.

She added that the two dogs that were killed by deputies, were shot in the neighbor’s yard after deputies attempted to use non-lethal methods to control the animals.

The remaining four were taken because, James said, it was unknown who they belonged to.

However, Leah Roach, a neighbor of the Daniels, said she saw the police and animal control knock on the Daniels’ front door then break down the family’s fence and enter the back yard to extricate the dogs.

“If they didn’t know they were their dogs, then why did they knock on their door?” questioned Roach.

This has to stop! Police either breaking into yards and destroying pets with NO record of aggression, or doing nothing about public members attacking dogs on their own property. This is ridiculous

This is reprehensible. Those poor dogs and that poor family. Not only are those officers on a power trip, they obvisouly have something against Pit Bulls. And they obvisously are too lazy to get information before acting.

I dont understand what gave them the right to enter the home in the first place.

My goodness my heart goes out to those poor people! That is THE MOST RIDICULOUS act any law enforcement or animal control official could do. Those poor dogs! I really hate it when breeds are stereotyped. Just because they were pit bulls does NOT mean they were evil!!! Don’t even get me started… Shame on those officers. They would be very upset if someone took something they loved and destroyed it for no apparent reason.

This is beyond sad. My heart goes out to their families. Ignorance kills. These workers ALL must be held accountable for murdering these dogs. All dead witihin hours?? Something is more than rotten in Adleante,CA..

This is excellent news, hopefully more police departments will do the same, pitbulls all need to be shot and killed across the country, they are dangerous and this is the right thing to do, the officers should be given a medal for this. Hope they get lots more of thas nasty baby maulers.

Good I am glad that happened, just two days ago our neigbors dirty, thirsty hungry grown pitt bulls were in our yard. If owned a gun I would shot them both and ended the fear that from now on my family and I will have of these dogs. The irresponsible neigbhors’ dogs were running around loose as if looking for their real home. I called animal control at 8:00 sharp and still at 10:30 the dogs were out there running around I did not get out of my car until 11:00 police were called and said nothing could be done because they were’nt hurting anybody. Well if one is attacked by these beast we would be unable to call the police as we are torn limb by limb by these beast.

That is bullshitt.I love the pittbull breed with all my heart! When are these dumb impressionable people going to relize its not the animals that need to suffer just due to their breed?!Oh and as for you PAM…you are ignorant for disliking a entire breed of canine’s due to your NEIGHBOR’S bad or lack of training and care for their animals. In my opinion and from experience i know its not the dogs fault and the “lock-jaw” breeds are some of the most loving and loyal of all dog breeds.I’ve had pittbulls my entire life and none of them were viscious…you would think they were labs, but some people judge by apperence aka:DISCRIMINATION without really knowing/experiencing the beauty of The american pitt bull terrier. (:

People suck! I can’t believe that people can get away with brutly killing a family member like that. If it had been a person instead of an Pit Bull they would lost there job and gone to jail. This is genocide on the breed. We are fighting a war becuase of people who do this to other people. How should this be any differant with our four legged family members?
