Thanks to Charlotte C. for barking in this invitation to see the Oprah puppymill video at Pomrescue.com.

Anyone who missed the Oprah show on puppymills can see it here at pomrescue.com. I’ve already seen the effects of it in the applications I’ve got for my foster Pug, from people saying they will never buy another dog as long as they live. It’s worth seeing.

I really hope the show makes a difference.

every day I pass by several houses with large rows of breeding kennels full of little “toy” indoor-type dogs….sadly they are no one’s pets…just a cashcow for the breeders to sell in front of wal-mart (whim purchase) on a Sunday after church. sad little dogs who live outside 365 getting bitten by mosquitoes all summer, covered with mats with raw knees and elbows from living on concrete instead of warm beds. i wish there were laws….can’t a pet just be loved for it’s own sake? there are NO laws in Louisiana to protect dogs or their offspring from exploitation….just last December it became illegal (FINALLY) to fight roosters! we have a LONG way to go…sad..very very sad. I will spare myself watching oprah’s video when I see so much heartless avarice in my own backyard. I rescued my sheltie from a local breeder who never bothered to give her heartworm medicine because the dog was infertile. At 2 1/2 years of age the poor dog was dying with severe, Heavy Positive heartworms! Last week that breeder looked up my dogs name here and threatened to sue me for slander! Never mentioned her town or name, turned her over to HQ. I sold all my clothing & jewelry to pay for this wonderful dog’s treatments that continue STILL because of her advanced state! You’d think she would be glad the dog is being cared for…no, this breeder is afraid of possible lost income! I’ve never bought a pet..all my pets have found me (rescues) I would not want to buy a pup whose parents were in a cell….not socialized, housetrained, etc. Just breeding for cash. People have no shame that are capable of this kind of greed. No shame whatsoever.

You can try to help the situation in Louisiana by pushing for an enforceable anti-puppy mill law.
