Be aware that there are other forms of polyols (sugar alcohols) besides Xylitol to look for. They include sorbitol, mannitol, erythritol and glycerol to name a few. They are very beneficial for use in humans, including unborn children. Excess will create discomfort, not danger.
It occurs naturally in fruits, as well as foods such as mushrooms and fermentation-derived foods such as wine, soy sauce and cheese. It is also used in candies, chocolates, soft drinks, chewing gums, yogurts, fillings, cookie coatings, jellies, jams and sugar substitutes.
Pets may experience dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), liver failure, and death in dogs due to xylitol consumption.

My two goldens were intentionally given sugar free gum by neighborhood kids. One had liver enzymes at 16,000 and the other at 9000. As of today they are still in ICU and slowly showing improvement. Please be cautious of Xylatol. Our vet bills are slated to be over $12,000.00 for this horrible incident.

one of my boys ate something he wasn't supposed to, chicken bones, and there I was shoving peroxide down his throat making him throw it up. It works. If you rdog ingests something that isn't for dogs, get out the peroxide!
