Update on NYC Pit Bull Anthony
Joy

As you may have read in the comments on the previous post on Anthony, the alleged acumbag that beat him has been acquitted. But the story is not over yet.

While Anthony remains in Jenn’s care on a technicality, the Judge acquitted the defendant who grossly abused this poor dog. The DA’s office is on a roll ruling many if not most cruelty cases as misdemeanors even though severe injury was inflicted and there is available statute to charge all cruelty cases under Agriculture and Market law as Felony.

We need to hold the DA’s office accountable for the misapplication of law and adding through their negligence further suffering to these poor animals. The ADA in this case openly admitted that she did not file proper papers nor did she apply the available statute as she was too case heavy and did not have time.

Is this how we intended our government to allocate our tax dollars? I think not!

Here is more information about the case:

Alleged Dog Abuser May Get Dog Back

Harlem resident, Michael Johnson, who allegedly pummeled his dog into the floor and/or wall of his apartment in October 2006 returns to Hon. Judge Neil Ross’ courtroom on Monday 1/28/08, facing misdemeanor charges of Torturing & Injuring Animals in violation of the Agricultural & Market Law, Sect 353. The two year old American Staffordshire Terrier-mix, now renamed Anthony (formerly called Predator by Johnson), has since recovered and is flourishing under the care of his foster parent, Jennifer Panton for the past 10 months (see Anthony with his current roommates in photo attached).

Johnson faces up to 1 year in jail and/or 3 years probation if found guilty. Johnson has stated he wants to retain custody of Anthony, which could happen if he is acquitted.

  1. mom to bo and freeway

send him over here to my house. Isn’t there an abused dog underground? I’ll take him.

  2. Ziggy's Mom

Let’s get that dog out of New York state and somewhere safe. He deserves so much better! I was glad to read that there was a an attorney willing to represent this poor animal pro bono. Maybe with his/her help, Anthony can have a good future.

That judge ought to have his head examined!

  3. Kiko & Josie & mama

The DA needs her head examined too. She was ‘too case heavy and didn’t have the time’?? Excuse me, isn’t this her JOB?? I’m sorry she is so busy. Heaven forbid that I ever am a victim of a crime in her jurisdiction–I’d be afraid she was too busy to properly prosecute the CRIMINAL! I’d say this is a case of ‘it’s just a dog’ mentality.

I sure hope they find a way to keep Anthony away from that scum.

  4. KB & Jackpot

How do we get him in the underground?????? I can’t imagine poor Anthony going back to that dirtball!!!!

  5. Susan

That poor dog!!!!! I wish you the best with your fight against the dirt bag who not only didn’t deserve the privilege of taking care of Anthony to begin with but also doesn’t deserve to get a second chance ever!

  6. Michelle

Besides the underground, what else can we all do in the meantime to ensure that Anthony does not go back to his abuser? Who can we send emails or faxes to, phone calls?

  7. Danette

If possible, what if he “ran away” and you tried to find him, but couldnt??? Then we can get him out of NY and to somewhere where he can recovery safely without the stupid judge giving this scum of the earth custody!!!

  8. Olga Diaz

Oh no! we can’t let that sob get his hands on poor Anthony, that sweet boy deserves better thant to be handed back to his executioner! Make no mistake, Michael Johnson is going to finish what he started! Please provide addresses so letters can be written, especially to the lady DA who is too busy to do her job properly. She sould de fired and Michale Johnson should be jailed!!!

  9. Leslie

What injustice! Why can’t we protect the animals of the world?

  10. MJ

What happened with this case? Is there an update?

  11. MM

    Here is an update.
Anthony is still with his foster family!
