I took my dog to petsmart for a nail clipping, filing and ear cleaning and they were great with my puppy and treated her well and watched out for her. They never left her unattended and they were very good with her. I think it does depend on the location of the store and the employees. THe one I go to is great!

I am shocked once again. I have been taking my 5 year old, 50lb., black lab mix to Petsmart's Banfield hospital for the last year in Conroe, Tx. and the same thing happened on Friday June 19, 2009. I still can't believe he is gone. I live alone, no children and he was my buddy.
He escaped while they were getting ready to do his normal check-up. He ran right out the front doors onto I-45 inbetween FM336 and FM3083. I don't know what else to say. His name was Ziggy and I would like to make a small memorial in his name at McDade park in Conroe as this was his favorite place to be. I can't believe this.

In disagree with you judgements. PETsMART should no be held guilty for the employees mistakes. If one person in a company makes a mistake, you blame the person not the company. The employees are most likely teenagers who know nothing about animals who just want easy money.I agree with Yanet. Also some petsmarts do know what they are doing, are clean, and the animals are extremely healthy. I visit as often as I can, and everytime I go everything seems to be perfectly fine.
When we took our golden retriever, Sunshine to the get groomed at petsmart we asked for him to have flea removal including a bath and a nail trim. I imagined this would be easy for them since sunshine was a puppy at the moment and didn't have much body to be washed. When we got back about 2 hours (i think) later as they asked they we asked them is Sunshine gave them a hard time (we were just joking because Sunshine wouldn't hurt a fly) they said he was non-stop growling and barking. At the time Sunshine just recently learned how to growl because we had a chihuahua who i guess taught him. However Sunshine only growled when he and Snoopy were playing and never at even strangers. If you were to steal Sunshine's toys or bones he would just think of it as play. I thought strange of that but ignored it and just took Sunshine home. When I got home I took a shower and when I got out My daughter Laura was holding playing with Sunshine then noticed i got out of my room and said that she found a flea on Sunshine. I checked on Sunshine to see if this was true and found several fleas on him. The next day i bathed him myself and he was flealess. I might as well just bathe him at home than waste money on employees that seem to fool around most of the time rather than work. Not to mention one time we took my daughters hamster who seemed a little sick to their vet and she was completely dumb founded on what to do.

I recently took my small dog to Petsmart for grooming; dropped her off at 10am, received call from Petsmart 10:30am saying while cutting her nails they noticed she may have broken a blood vessel in her eye. Her eye was bulging and lids swollen, white part entirely dark red. Emergency vet said this could have been cause by strangulation or eye could have popped out and back in. Dog is currently on medication with steriod. Hopefully she'll recover with no damage. We won't know for a while. Manager reluctant to reimburse vet fees for testing her eye pressure, etc. I am still waiting for response from them. If you search internet Petsmart grooming accidents, you will notice many are due to "nail cutting". They must fight with the pets and not let up - with the noose around their necks. This is a 4 years old healthy shih tzu when I brought her there.

Umm, In quite the predicament. I'm speaking on behalf of my sister and brother in law. My sister a week ago, took her dog, Petey to Petsmart, when he came home he was never the same. He began to vomit profusely, not drink, not eat, lay there still. My sister took him to the vet two two times after that, second visit was diagnosed with colitis and then dies a week after going to Petsmart. How does a perfectly healthy dog, come home from a bath and dies a week later? Of course, no body wants to be blamed for the actions. According to Petsmart everything was done correctly.BULL Crap! What should she do? She's left devastated, confused, hurt, broken hearted and dogless.

I am an employee at a Petsmart. I work in the Specialty section of the store that directly deals with small animals, reptiles and birds that we get from the breeders. To be honest, I have always been an animal lover, but the way the company is run disgusts me. I've only been working there for about six months, and I am already looking for a new job. The guinea pigs we get from the breeders are sick with ringworm most of the time, my manager was hired with only the knowledge of a few animals, and still has no clue as to the proper care of most of the animals. I have a turtle that I have saved from our "sick" room, because my store manager was going to euthanize her, rather than trying to adopt her out. If I work there much longer, I am going to end up with so many more animals. Our company buys so many of them at a time, they get territorial and end up getting in fights, and getting sick and stuff. I believe Petsmart should go back to just carrying dog food, and not carrying anything else except for pet supplies, not pets. It is a huge corporation that doesn't care about anything but profits, whether it has a heart beat or not. I am still livid about my turtle situation as you can tell.

Wow, there is alot being said on here. I dont think I can get this all in but lets try. First I know that the petsmart where I live if your dog is bit inside the store you are sent right away to the vets even after hours they have a vet for you to go to. I have seen the petsmart here go out of its way to try and help others, however you cant expect to run in with a problem and have just a random employee know how to care for your dog. The employee sent you to a vet, maybe that was the only vet they knew of near by and figured they could help you better. Each petsmart employee is trained in thier area you were asking a floor associate to do a banfield job. There is proceedures you have to go through to work there. Besides what if he did do cpr and your dog died. You would still hold him responsible for the death because of your anger. it is hard to loose a pet. They are a family member to us. We want everyone to try the hardest to fix the problem and when we cant we blame whoever we can. Now adays if you try to do cpr on a person they can sue you! It is so stupid these laws but worse off is to make someone feel bad because they cant save our loved friends. However you did bring up a good point and I think we should see into getting cpr certified for pets. our petsmart does not have a banfield. However our manager worked at a vets. Now if you watch the movie. You will see that petsmart sent out a letter saying how disturbed they were about what they saw and are going to investigate it. Lets give them the benifit of the doubt since they do try to help animals. They dont sell dogs or cats the adopt them out to good families. yes they sell animals but I noticed that every time one is sick at ours you will see the associates caring for it. There was a bird that got loose. It was one that was not very friendly they said but instead of harming or saying it was bad they caught it and found a person that loves birds and found it a home (adopted it out). Virus can start anywhere. I know of people who have gotten sick but hardly ever go anywhere. Now if the virus is caused by a critter that you had just recently bought from the store then there should be some compensation. Now I dont know about all petsmarts but mine take in all types of dogs. The only one they said they do not take in are Wolf breeds, When questioning why they said because unlike dogs the rabies (WHICH ARE REQUIRED FOR EVERY GROOM OR BATH) are immune to them. Ours takes in french bull dogs. We dont have a doggy hotel at ours, but they did pull food and refused to sale it. I havent heard anything about them selling tennis balls with lead in it. Ours has files of what all has been done to a dog. If the dog is matted they are supposed to call and tell you. I can see how someone would get mad by them not doing that. Our grooming salon has the employees come out and check your dog before checking you in to the system, They feel the dog for anything. If they find a matt they let you see it and show you how to avoid matts. I was told they do this so they dont have to call you later to say oh we found this or that. If there is a note in the file they are required to read it and make sure that on the sheet they have us sign, it is in BIG BOLDED LETTERS that if the dog has seizures, Skin allergies or whatever else. There should be no need for them to have to dry your dog completely if you said for them not to and you dont mind it wet. PLus there is kennel driers that can be kept on certain breed dogs that should help dry the dog they are low sound and low air. Most dogs fall asleep to it. Ours may offer that one an express groom where it goes straight through that way after the bath and towel drying it can go home to get more comfortable there. As far as different local breeders there is a requirement that petsmart must go through. I think it would be great to get local breeders involved but the protical is for each of those to be certified, safety certified and if any come in sick there is more certifications going on. There should be no person to over looks something. Petsmart is suppose to be there for the animals. I guess I lucked out. Ours has about eight groomers or so and I found one that I just stuck to. My dog is always happy when he sees her and she is always happy when she sees him. She knows his and my name which is nice. Not only that she tells him how happy she is to see him and that she gets to play with him for a bit until mom returns. When I return I peek in to see her working on my dogs at times and he is always licking her and then standing still. I can see her talking to him. It is ncie to see that a groomer loves my dog as much as me. She always says bye to BOTH of us. Now I am sure the other groomer was very upset about the dog getting loose. Yes there should be alot of supervisions. Accidents happen to even the best of us. I am sad to hear that he did not make it. that is the hardest thing to hear that a member of our family is gone. I have been blessed to find a good groomer and it just happens to be at petsmart. I hope that they trained the people during that accident better. I know the standards have changed. Even at ours since I have seen them not only come check my dog all over before entering him into the computer but she grabs a lead of hers and slips it on him first thing and walks him back. The door here is where you have to push it open to go in and pull it open to go out. They have a huge window for you to watch to see if there is any cruelty going on. Yes the bath is in the back but the grooming is up front. like I said I have came in and peeked but I never seen anything I would be disgraced about. I have seen the girls in there pet my dog as they walk by and my groomer has even played with her. The lead never seems tight and she is always talking to him. I just appriciate how she treats him. I know she would be devestated if anything should happen and that she treats him just like he was one of her own. I like petsmart. I think just like other things everyone tries to find something wrong and starts to bash. I mean in this day in age if you wear the wrong color, or if you are tall or short or fat or thin, or if you have a cat and not a dog or a dog and not a cat we all judge others. And we dont just judge we take that one person and make them into a million and accuse all that are short or all that are tall. Instead of judging we should try to help to fix the problems. find solutions....not just saying oh you shouldnt do that but instead say. Oh hey why not try doing this instead I think this is a safer way of doing things. Maybe we can have volunteers go out and show that rainbow place the proper way of doing things. Or maybe petsmart can have a safety seminar and invite customers to join so not only are the associates learning but the customers are as well. I think the first seminar for all should be on Safety and CPR for animals

Instead of judging we should try to help to fix the problems. find solutions….not just saying oh you shouldnt do that but instead say.
