Thank you Sadie for barking in this news.

Sol, and Joy,

I listed this in the Squeaky & Fuzzy group page and good ole Dallas suggested I share this with you as you might want to put it in your blog.

Thanks for all the info you get out to us dogs and our people.

Sadie

Here is some more info from U of P Veterinary School.

Vaccine Development from Dogs Newly Diagnosed with Specific Forms of Cancer

Researchers at Penn Vet are taking the first steps toward developing a vaccine for dogs with specific forms of cancer. The first step in this process is to determine whether dogs with cancer make natural immune responses to their tumors. This study is looking for dogs who have been newly diagnosed with lung, mammary (breast), bladder, or bone cancers. If your pet has been recently diagnosed with any of these cancers, is undergoing surgery to remove the mass, and has not undergone previous chemotherapy or radiation treatments, he or she may be eligible.

We lost a precious little soul to cancer a few years ago. She underwent more than one surgery to remove the mass, that kept reoccurring, plus chemotherapy. It’s wonderful to see progress being made in this area of K9 healthcare. We hope this latest development comes in time to add life quality, to the afflicted, and to blaze a trail in finding a cure.

Thanks for barking. I hope you’ll post any updates.

I have Bernese Mountain dogs. Both the mother and father of my litter from 2002 are gone. Both put down with progressive bone cancer. We had a litter of 6. 2 out of the litter are gone just withing the last 2 weeks. I have one of the brothers. He is a strong healthy boy. Or atleast I think he is. He began going lame in his back right leg about 1 month ago. I had extensive xrays done and nothing was found to indicate a cancer issue at this time. But with his mother it was 6 months from diagnosis to death. I am so worried that he has the same thing it just is not showing yet. I would like to get some assistance from you? I am in Sarasota Florida. Can you help me? Do you have any suggestions?
    Worried mother,
    Angela

    Angela,

I would strongly urge you to contact the University of Pennsylvania Vet school. They sound like they are on teh cutting edge of this research. While most vets try very hard to stay on top of new developments there is nothing like a vet school for being able to take advantage of the absolute newest information and technology.

All the best to your furbaby!
