The one-and-a-half year old dog Leon is quietly licking his wounds after a dramatic week on the edge of a mountain in Norway.
The pup, originally from Canada, attracted much media attention after it ran away, presumably fleeing fireworks set off on New Year’s Eve.
The dog was finally plucked off the side of the mountain in an unusual rescue operation performed by Norway’s Air Ambulance.The Pyrenese hound, weighing in at 50 kilograms (110 pounds), was stranded on a cliff edge on a mountain in Nordfjord in central Norway for eight days. He was “airlifted” by a rescuer on Tuesday and is now recovering with his owners.
There has been some debate in Norway about the widespread use of fireworks, especially on New Year’s Eve, and new restrictions are in place for 2008.
It remains uncertain how much the rescue operation cost, but the owners of Leon say they have received a number of contributions, all of which they will donate to Norway’s Air Ambulance.
