Having owned a rescue for over 12 years, I can speak with authority on the healing powers of animals. Mine has been certified by the state and is my medical assistance animal in that she can pre-warn me to impending angina attacks; being about 95% accurate. Her record has been slightly diminishing as she gets older; about to turn 13 but still the best chow mix I have ever run across. Our family has over the years been very educated about the amazing things that animals are capable of by watching our Pita and others through the various rescue groups that we have had the pleasure of working with. I do believe that the human race should really take a second look at our amazing four leggers and I am pleased that the medical community and the general population is beginning to investigate and take seriously the wonders of the animal kingdom. We should put aside our egos and shut our mouths except to exclaim in wonder and amazement of the many accomplishments of our friends in fur as the article above indicates. I personally, have learned to respect them far more than many humans I have run across because of their abilities and their lack of alterior motives, only wanting to be loved.
We believe that the government should make a felony and imprison ANY one who abuses these incredible creatures. There should be a grassroots movement and we should also change the laws indicating that our dogs are our property. They are not! We are their guardians and stewards. This should be the law. Anyway, we are stepping off of our soapbox now and hope that some thought is put into our words. The story above is something that is long overdue and should be reported far more often and broadcast by the media at every turn so as to educate the general population that our pets, our friends and guardians are there as you can see, in more ways than one; asking only for love in return for the many amazing things that they do! From two grateful guardians of our amazing Pita, Bob and Jacob
