Mom’s Letter Claims Remorse For Stolen Dog

FOX 4 NewsRob Velevis says on Christmas Eve, his 1-year-old pug named Scooter slipped out from under the back fence and disappeared.
He and his wife have spent the last week and a half looking for him.
They scoured a nearby park, checked the shelters and put up fliers, but it was no use. Scooter was nowhere to be found. Then came anonymous letter in the mail: it was postmarked from Tulsa, OK and addressed simply to “Family.”
It begins, “I am writing to tell you that your little dog has a good and safe home.”
Later, the writer confesses, “I saw your little dog crossing the a street in to a park that is by a school. He came up right up to me, and I took him and gave him to my daughter on Christmas.”
The Velevises couldn’t believe their eyes. It wasn’t a ransom letter, just the confession of an anonymous mother who admitted to stealing Scooter and giving him to her own daughter for Christmas. Enclosed with the typewritten note was a $20 bill as payment.
The couple is keeping the letter and the money in a bag in case they need to have them fingerprinted.
“We’re expecting our first child in May,” said owner Kim Velevis, “and the fact that our little girl might not be able to grow up around Scooter, it crushes us.”
The family has retraced the steps and now can imagine exactly where Scooter was stolen, but what they can’t imagine is how anyone could knowingly do such a thing.
“We just can’t believe that another human would do this to somebody else, especially on Christmas Eve,” said husband Rob “She knew in the letter it was going to wreck our family.”

What an idiot. I hope they find her. Good luck.
Pugs are such wonderful friendly lovable dogs. I would be devastated if mine got lost. I really hope this dog gets returned. God bless the family.
To hear this tears me up. I have two pugs myself. Molly and Maxwell. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my two babies. I really hope you are able to get your darling Scooter back! Gosh, I really do hope you find him, or the mother comes forth. What a terrible thing to do!
The woman states that the dog is well cared for but also comments that she is pennyless. How can she afford to take him to the vet and get all of his vaccinations and heart worm stuff? To me, that is not well cared for. She sure went in the total opposite direction for someone who is “trying to turn herself around.” I would be devestated.
I saw this story on a Sunday Morning News program over the weekend and have not been able to get it out of my mind. We are pug owners and I cannot imagine having our little baby dog “Chopper” taken from us. They are precious dogs and I hope that someone knows something about your little Scooter, and will do the right thing and come forward.
[...] vicious dogs? If so, there is a down-on-her-luck recovering alcoholic in Tulsa who is very good at stealing other people’s pets. Maybe we can take care of those dangerous dogs. Leave a [...]
I have been checking frequently since I heard the story about Scooter, to see if he has been brought back to his rightful owners. I find it hard to believe that no one has any information about this anonymous person, the pug or the child that received a full grown pug for Christmas. Most children who get dogs for Christmas will receive a puppy.
I have two pugs and I know how devastated I would be if I lost them. Does anyone know if Scooter returned home? I was sick over that when I saw the husband and wife on the Today Show.
