Another Chinese Pet Food Recall — Bird and Pet Rodent Foods Test Positive for Melamine

Good news — someone tested these pet foods. Bad news — they tested positive for melamine. I know these foods aren’t for dogs and cats but it suggests to me that the Chinese firms STILL don’t get it! Stop poisoning us and our pets!

We cannot let our guard down against Chinese foods! Before buying any pet foods, please check the country of origin. If it says “China” put it down!

This information comes from the FDA’s Enforcement Report for December 26, 2007.

Thank you so much for posting this important recall here! Many of us like myself have other companion animals than dogs and cats, and this may have saved lives here. Thank you!

Oh my goodness! Thanks for posting this. When are we going to stop buying from China and start buying things made in the USA? This is too scary!

  3. aisling

i agree, aimee! why blame the chinese when it’s our own food manufacturers that continue to buy food products that we are perfectly capable of producing in the states? that tells me that profits, NOT PETS are the goals of IAMS, PURINA, SCIENCE DIET, and others. i have the opportunity to feed my own dog a healthy diet of raw meat produced only a few miles from where i live, but there are options that are well worth the investment of good foods for all your pets that will cost you a little more upfront but will save you a lifetime (your pet’s lifetime) of high vet costs due to allergy treatment, liver problems, etc.
my sister is about to adopt two baby rats and i know she is planning on providing them with a healthy and whole foods diet…especially after this finding! buy local food when you can for you and your pets! it can only bring good things!
