Presidential Candiate Mike Huckabee’s Son David Tortured and Killed Stray Dog in 1998, Charges Never Filed and Huckabee Not Punished
There has been some chatter on various blogs that one of the Republican Presidential frontrunners Mike Huckabee’s son was involved with the torture and murder of a stray dog. After some digging, we came up with the original newspaper article from 1998.
It turns out that David Huckabee, the then Governor of Arkansas’s son, hung and murdered a stray dog while Huckabee was at a Boy Scout Camp. Guess what? No charges were filed even though there were witnesses and Huckabee was dismissed from the camp because he failed to live up to the Boy Scout creed of “Scouts are kind.”
Governor Huckabee has been on PETA supporter Bill Maher’s show numerous times. I wonder what Maher (who wrote a foreword for PETA founder’s Ingrid Newkirk’s new book) would have to say about this event and its subsequent sweeping under the rug? Maher has been relatively friendly to the ex-Governor of Arkansas even though Maher obviously doesn’t agree with Huckabee’s stands. Okay Bill, how about holding Huckabee’s feet to the fire on how he justifies allowing his son to torture and murder animals.
Thanks to Beth C. for barking in this story.
Here is the article from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. It was published on August 7th, 1998.
Governor’s son 1 of 2; fired at Scout camp; after stray dog killed
ELIZABETH McFARLAND, ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE
The younger son of Gov. Mike Huckabee and another teen were fired last month from jobs at a Boy Scout camp after the killing of a stray dog.
Marcal Young of Texarkana, scout executive of the Caddo Area Council that operates the camp where the dog was killed, said this week that two boys violated a Scout law, “A Scout is kind.”Young would not release the names of the boys nor explain how the dog, “probably a mixed breed,” was killed.
The two teens reported the event immediately and said they had made a mistake.
“They felt it [the dog] was ill and what have you, still our policy is it was inappropriate behavior,” Young said.He would not say what the boys thought was wrong with the dog, but he said they did not suspect rabies.
Members of the camp staff receive training before camp starts and are told what it means to be “a good role model,” Young said.
An anonymous, unconfirmed report describing a particular process of killing the dog and naming young Huckabee as a participant was sent by fax machine this week by an organization against cruelty to animals to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. That report was described by Young and the governor as inaccurate.
Both men declined to say how the dog had been killed or who did it.
The dog was killed July 11 at Camp Pioneer near Hatfield. Only employees witnessed the incident. Not many of them were on hand, one source said.
Young said he chose not to reveal the names of the employees because “I just think that they’re due privacy. These are young people. They make mistakes occasionally, but I’m not covering for them.”
Young said the council’s board gives him the authority to take care of personnel decisions. He said the council believes it took appropriate action and the matter is closed. He said he did not report it to law enforcement authorities.
A source who asked to remain unnamed said David Huckabee, who turned 18 on July 22 and was 17 at the time of the incident, was one of those fired over it.
A reporter’s message left at the Governor’s Mansion for David Huckabee was not returned.
Danny Frady of Texarkana said his son, Clayton, 19, was the other staff member who was fired.
The elder Frady said his son told him he came upon one or more Scouts who had the dog “hung over a limb and choking” so the younger Frady helped “put it out of its misery.”
“I think the boy has paid his dues because he lost his job. He was one of the better counselors. He’s made a mistake, and he’s paid for it,” Danny Frady said. “I don’t think he did anything wrong to put an animal out of its misery.”
Danny Frady said killing a stray dog that has become a nuisance is common in rural areas. The mistake was doing it in front of other youth staff members, Frady said.
Young said the fired employees might be required to undergo counseling if they applied to be employees again. Danny Frady said he doesn’t think his son needs counseling because “he’s not cruel to animals.”
Polk County Sheriff Mike Oglesby said neither he nor his deputies had heard of the incident. A complaint should have been made, he said.
Prosecuting Attorney Tim Williamson of Mena said cruelty to animals is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $ 1,000 fine and up to a year in jail. “We regularly charge cruelty to animals. That’s kind of my pet peeve,” he said.
Oglesby and Williamson said they didn’t intend to investigate because no one had lodged a complaint.
Camp Pioneer in Polk County served 2,026 campers for week-long stints from May 31 through July 25.
The camp employed 65 staff members. Caddo Area Council includes eight Arkansas counties and two Texas counties.

Sorry, but this has nothing to do with Mike Huckabee or his ability to be a good president. He did NOT commit the crime, and no one knows exactly how he handled the incident with his son.
Why is it that Liberals are so quick to dig up any dirt, even if it has nothing to do with the person himself???!!!
How on earth does this act by his SON affect him as a person??
Do you think this issue would have disappeared so quickly and easily if the offender was NOT the governor’s son? I think not.
So what does this have to do with Huckabee? How concerned is Huckabee going to be about crimes against animals if his own son is a known animal abuser?
And what about other crimes? If Huckabee got this crime swept under the rug what does that say about how he really views the law?
And as for liberal or conservative, I have been accused of being both depending on who the commentor wanted to defend. My concern are animals. I ahve lauded both Republicans and Democrats when they work to protect our furfriends.
what a f….d up story. The people involved in that dogs death are criminals. I like the way one of the fathers defends his kids sociopathic actions. I’m not surprised it involves republicans, what a bunch of assholes. This story really made me sick. I cannot believe how casual the people involved are. That poor dog deserved to be rescued, not tortured and killed by sick f…s. What the hell are the scouts teaching ?
I totally agree with your comment Joy.
Power was used to hush-up the incident.
And yet Huckabee loudly proclaims himself an advocate of ASPCA and against cruelty to animals — as if this cruel act never happened.
This is not about liberal or conservative (I have also been had both of these labels applied to me).
This is an issue about inexcusable behavior, cover up, and
and avoiding reality.
Bob
Isn’t it ironic when a Republican’s candidate and their family are called to the carpet for bad behavior it is the liberal’s who dig up the “dirt”? We all have to remember how we banded together when Michael Vick was accused and tried as an animal killer as well.
Try to remember that this is not an issue that is either Democrat or Republican… it is an issue of what is morally right. Killing animals is not morally right. Son of the governor or not he should be punished with the same vim and vigor that we put forth to Michael Vick but as Joy states… he was the governors son.
Perhaps Huckabee realized from this event that animals were important and decided that becoming a voice for animals and aligning himself with the ASPCA.
It’s dreadful that a politician can make this kind of story go away at the time. However, it’s good you’ve brought it to light again. Too often the higher echelons of society seem to escape the hands of the law. This story is a testament to just how the upper middle classes can be as guilty of cruelty to animals.
Hopefully this story will now raise awareness that this is an issue that affects all social groups. Everyone should respect animals —even the governor’s son!
To Working Paw Rescue: You are correct that Huckabee did not commit the crime. And I am not saying that he did. What I am pointing out is how he reacted to his son’s actions. I am not saying he should be held accountable for what his son did, but what HE did. He tried to keep this from coming out. Then when it did come out, he said the “accusations” were “politically based.” They were much more than “accusations”. It is a FACT that his son tortured, beat, killed and then hung the dog. His son should have been punished and was not. I believe this is due to the fact that he was governor of Arkansas and he used his position to pressure the state police to not pursue it. He said the state police should be investigating human deaths and not animal deaths. Human deaths being more important, of course. The point is his son was guilty of cruelty to animals which is a crime. He should have been punished. My point iin all this as to Huckabee is his actions and response reflects on his character, integrity and honor, or in my opinion, his lack of character, integrity and honor. Why should he not be held accountable for that?
Goes to show that sooner or later your bad deeds come back to haunt you. I think it is justified that this horrible incident is brought to light know and Mr Huckabee should address it. Let us see where he really stands on the issue of animal abuse.
Well……even though Mr, Huckabee did not commit the crime himself he did raise the child that did commit the crime.
That’s right DobieLover, while Huckabee did not commit the crime, he raised a human that did then covered it up. At least have the deceny to say, “I don’t know where I went wrong” and admit you messed up raising a person who tortures animals. Please. Let’s stop making excuses for people’s bad behavior. As for Vick, he admited he messed up and has paid close to $1 million in restitution. When he got caught in the lie, he admitted he knew.
Own up to it Huckabee!
Working Paw Rescue, I’m afraid you have given us all the perfect example of the Pot calling the Kettle Black. If you think that the “Liberals” are the only ones digging up dirt, then you REALLY need to take a good look at your party. SERIOUSLY! That’s just like saying “Why is it that all the Right Wingers always have to sweep everything they do under the rug and never actually have to face the music for anything they’ve ever done wrong.”
“even though Mr, Huckabee did not commit the crime himself he did raise the child that did commit the crime”
So by this logic Jeffrey Dahmer’s parents are responsible for his heinous crimes?
Adam,
Thanks for barking in.
No, Mike Huckabee is not legally responsible for his child’s behavior. Although, this sort of mental illness is usually apparent and should have been treated with professional help. But no, I would not blame the senior Huckabee for the murder.
I do, however, blame Mike Huckabee for allowing or encouraging the apparent cover-up of the evil action. The story disappeared because someone wanted it to disappear. Who would have wanted that more than Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister who was living his life under public scrutiny.
It seems the only person who had any internal fortitude was the Scout leader who had the courage to actually discipline the junior Huckabee.
Right on Joy - Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I was disturbed about the statement in the article that stated: “..killing a stray dog that has become a nuisance is common in rural areas.” I live a in rural area and, in my experience, that is NOT common. And the dog wasn’t just killed, it was tortured. Would the dog have been “put out of it’s misery” if it hadn’t been hung?
We have a rescue puppy that was left to her own devices at 5 months. We have spent many a long day trying to get her to trust people. She is just getting to the point where she does. It breaks my heart to think that the dog in this story may have trusted those boys only to come to that bitter end.
Regardless of who you are, Democrat- Republican, left- right, that is just wrong. Karma is a bitch.
Huckabee raised one hell of a disturbed monster.

“So by this logic Jeffrey Dahmer’s parents are responsible for his heinous crimes?”
Certainly not, but would you really vote to put them in the White House? C’mon now.
1. Killing a dog is not murder. Killing another person without lawful cause is murder. Dogs are not people.
2. Feral dogs are a big problem in that part of Arkansas, as they are in many parts of the world. Not only are feral dogs responsible for attacking and killing pets, chickens and livestock and causing property damage, but they also attack people. Children are especially vulnerable.
3. Huckabee’s son did participate in killing the dog. However, the act was apparently viewed by several witnesses, yet no one pressed charges and no witness has publicly confirmed the gruesome details that are reported by the fax.
4. Elizabeth McFarland is a respected journalist. Contact her for reliable information and follow up your story professionally.
Huckabee is an evil, vile man. He is a liar and a hypocrite and a danger to our country. However, you are helping him by spreading rumors, Furthermore, you undermine your own credibility by labeling a purported animal cruelty killing as murder.
Lets get serious, do you notice how the quotes from the newspaper article state that the sources are unconfirmed and many of the facts are unconfirmed. You have no idea how Mike Huckabee’s son was involved in this incident. There were other boys present at the time. It is irresponsible of you to say that young Huckabee actually killed this dog. Its a sad day when you stoop so low and ruin a persons reputation with cold hard facts…
by the way, did it ever occur to you that these young boys were afraid of the stray dog, maybe they felt it was threatening to the kids that were there. Have you ever met a stray dog that has come out of the woods, do you think that they are warm and cuddly. Perhaps this dog could have hurt of one the other kids..People are way more important than dogs, like I said in my last post get ALL the facts before you spread damaging rumors about someone..
The cop that was in charge of the case was later fired by Huckabee 7 months later because he didn’t follow orders from Huckabee’s counsel. Let’s not forget about Wayne Dumond the rapist that Huckabee yearned to set free. He went out and raped and murdered again. Huckabee is a fool, and that is being kind. ruff ruff.
As far as I’m concerned a dog is more human that
most humans I know, and person that would cause
that type of injury to a dog would most likely do it to
a person. Huckabee should have at the minumum
got his son professional help, perhaps he did who
knows?
PEOPLE ARE “WAY MORE” IMPORTANT THAN A DOG….
COME ON, THERE HASN’T BEEN A DOG I DIDN’T LIKE BEING AROUND, PEOPLE ON THE OTHER HAND…….
HERE IN TEXAS, A KID GOT 5 YEARS FOR KILLING A
“DOG” WISH THAT COULD HAPPEN TO ALL THE A-HOLES THAT ABUSE ANY “ANIMAL.”
LIVE ON MERCY!
I totally agree with Spot. And I wonder what great things David has been up to? Oh yeah he was arrested at the Little Rock airport for having a loaded gun in his luggage.
I think this is a reflection of the kind of president Huckabee would be. He will push problems under the rug. He protected his son for an unforgivable act of cruelity. I think his son David should be punished for this crime. Micheal Vick is being punished what makes David any better. The law needs to be fair. I will not vote for Huckabee nor will any animal lover I know. I hope the law prevails and I hope David is punished or suffers injury like he inflicted on that poor animal. What kind of parent is Huckabee.
There are not enough actual facts in this story. These are only allegations, no proof, no truth the young Huckabee was a part of it. This is an awful slander attack. Stick to the real issues, the real facts, such as how animal cruelty is NOT a felony in Arkansas. Huckabee did not do enough as govenor to protect animals, you can check all the legislation he passed, vetoed, and let lay to the wayside. He didn’t make animal cruelty a felony. That is the most important thing to take from this. Who knows if his son was directly involved? How can anyone say he covered it up? Get the facts before you accuse and jump to conclusions from one article! C’mon, everyone knows what you read in a paper is biased.
Genia
Please check out the post today on this issue. More facts have emerged and NONE of them look good for Candidate Huckabee.
Sorry, but its only slander if its not true.
Huckabee has not denied this. He only says they were putting the poor dog out of its misery. Like that makes it ok. That does not make it ok. The fact that they tortured the dog certainly casts doubt on their good intentions. The fact and they are facts that Huckabee pressured the state police to drop the investigation and later fired the state police director shows he is unfit for any office, much less president. Just think that if he did this to cover up a misdemeanor for his son, what would he do as president?
It would be the rare Republican, Democrat, or Independent that wouldn’t be horribly repulsed by animal abuse and torture. I also believe that all would be incensed by a cover-up of such illegal and immoral behavior.
What does one do when they are running for President and their son has committed such a heinous act? My guess? Pretend it was nothing, cover-up, cover-up, cover-up, and then blame it on the dog for being sick, mangy, and emaciated.
Beware of The Great Pretender!
This goes to the heart of Huckabee’s so called morality. Newsweek further investigated and found that Huckabee prevented the Arkansas State Police from investigating the case - he even went so far as to fire someone who called for an investigation. Sounds like obstruction off justice to me. Do we really need another president who abuses his powers of office? I for one don’t think we do.
[...] Amalgamated Animal Abuse Action Alerts are activated. And we here at PunditP hope Iowa is paying proper [...]
hell Michael Vick’s defense team should have used the same excuse the dogs were being hung to put them out of their misery.
I am just about as far to the right as one can be. I would sooner vote for Hillary Clinton(Egads!) after hearing this story than Huckabee.
I am noit judging him on the actions of his son, but his actions following the incident.
Upon further reveiew, his record on animal cruelty legislation in Arkansas is shameful.
This is my repsonse for Bob Le:
1. It’s just semantics.
2. If there is a feral dog probelem in Arkansas, deal with humanely. I doubt the young Huckabee’s intentions had anyhting to do with feral dog control.
3. Yes there were many eyewitnesses-children.
4. I’ve read McFarland’s articles,no need to contact her.
For all the generalizations about liberals etc in these posting and the media….here is my generalization. Show me a devout southern Baptist that has not raised at least one drunk, whore, rapist, pedophile or dog killer and I will buy you a dinner. Lets crucify Bill for a BJ while the Clintons raised an absolutely great child. SEEMS we pick odd things to get worked up over and gloss over the big stuff. BUSH - cocaine, draft dodger etc. C’MON but he does like to clear brush at the ranch
Now that I have vented - I feel sad for someone who would kill a dog. He must be really confused, lonely or desperate inside

Kevin, you’re going to owe a lot of people a lot of dinners, something tells me you are not of the finacial means to back up your inane challenge.
and um, Kevin, Clinton also a draft dodger & drug user. He also carried on sex acts with an intern at the White House while he was President of the United States, then lied about it,not only to the American people but under oath. Maybe it;s just me, but I consider that reprehensible, immoral and defintely falling under the category of “big stuff”.
But this is really not about politics, in case you have not figured it out.
Just like David tortured dogs and got away with, if the Huckster is elected, he’ll torture people and get away with it.

I think this is very relevant to Huckabee’sability to lead our country as president…apples do not fall far from the tree, and this story highlights and confirms my belief that Huckabee is just one more in the line of dirty politicians…Google Ron Paul. This man is obviously a christian with integrity and morals…he is much better suited to lead our nation. His life is evidence of his uncompromising morals and leadership ability…wake up people, and realize that Huckabee is a wolf in sheeps clothing! I am a Christian and am completely sickened by the way Huckabee trys to cover up and blame others every single time he is exposed.
What a bunch of freaks. This says all I need to know about the Huckabees.
Do you really thing this is the first politicians kid to get in trouble, we have had many good presidents who have trouble makers for children
Liz,
No, I don’t think this is the first politician’s kid to get in trouble. But what bothers me is the senoir Huckabee’s reaction. He put is full gubernatorial pressure behind hushing up the story and then firing the one person who didn’ t gladly jump in line. Do you really want a president who is more interested in protecting his mentally disturbed child than the well-being of the rest of the nation? I sure don’t!
Mike Huckabee LOVES dogs and brings his along with him on the campaign trail, they are happy and healthy. He was extremely grieved when this incident occured.
But as an animal rights person, I must say we have a far worse problem on our hands: vivisection (animals experiments) and surprisingly Mike Huckabee is the only presidential candidate that can actually help us.
Mike Huckabee is the only presidential candidate that holds hope for us antivivisectionists in raising awareness of the barbaric practices of useless and unnecessary animal experimentation. Huckabee speaks out boldly the fact that we will never fix our healthcare system until we FIRST put our efforts into health and wellness and is ready to tackle the greed of the pharmaceutical empire.
I am an antivivisectionist and know that fraudulent and unnecessary animal experiments commissioned by the large pharmaceutical companies are their bread and butter, even when the results cannot be extrapolated to humans and thus not even hold up in court. And this Naked Empress pushes far too many drugs, rivaling only the dope pushers on the streets. The bible calls it pharmakia (Greek word) and it translates as “sorcery.”
Then we have Mitt Romney is so out of touch that he proudly announced to the world at last night’s debate that he wholeheartedly supports the pharmaceutical empire. Bad move Romney.
For those of us in environmental and health and wellness movements, that’s all we need to hear when choosing to cast our votes.
Huckabee’s stand on health and wellness and getting himself well and curing his diabetes II through natural means by changing diet, eating habits, and exercise will really help cut down on the unnecessary use of drugging the sick who don’t need drugs, but a complete overhaul of their living and eating habits. I understand some drugs are beneficial in certain illnesses, but the truth is these pharmaceutical companies push far too much dope.
Make no mistake about it, THIS speaks VOLUMES to us in the related environmental groups. But the only hurdle with that is most of us are democrats and therefore do not watch Republican debates. This is also why we are not hearing more on this issue at this time. The truth is the republicans have been absolutely horrible on environmental issues, and it wasn’t until Mike Huckabee came on the scene that really any of us ever got a glimpse of ANY presidential candidate speaking about such things. It is also what drew me originally to Mike Huckabee.
Sure there will be resistance by factions in opposition to hunting, but all and all we know the pharmaceutical empire is a far worse problem and therefore will compromise for the better of the good. We cannot tackle all the factions at one time, but to me, abolishing vivisection is the BEST PLACE TO START. The Dems have been promising and not delivering because they are not tackling the root cause: TRUE HEALTH. When we concentrate our efforts on true health vivisectionists will be out of business forever.
Son David who allegedly tortured a dog was arrested not long ago for taking a gun into the airport.

Leaving all politics aside, if that had been my son I would not have stood in the way of him being punished. If the dog really was sick, they should have taken it to a vet for treatment. If the vet had decided the dog should be humanely euthanized, then so be it. This speaks very poorly of his judgment and his empathy for other creatures… and let’s not forget, the acorn tends to fall not very far from the tree.
The point of all of this is that it was swept under the rug since it was “his” son. That is NOT the way to deal with this situation - and Huckabee should be held accoutable for they way he dealt with it or “allowed” it to be dealt with.
Even if you are not an animal lover - you must know that this type of behavior often leads to more series crimes against people.
**I’m not surprised it involves republicans, what a bunch of assholes.**
barb,
I’m a conservative Republican, and I’ve been involved in animal rescue for over 20 years. In addition to working with local, grass-roots organizations (donating my time and money) that place dogs and cats in homes, I have personally rescued, fostered and placed well over a hundred cats and dogs.
I don’t like and won’t vote for Huckabee, and I made that decision before I ever read this terrible story, but you should be ashamed of yourself for stereotyping people as animal-haters based on their politics.

“There are not enough actual facts in this story. These are only allegations, no proof, no truth the young Huckabee was a part of it.”
I am afraid that is not true Genia. David Huckabee and the other young men admitted to the killing, but said it was to put the poor thing down; however, stoning, hanging and beating it is hardly a humane way to put any animal down.
A local DA did want to prosecute, and contacted the State police to iniate an investigation. then Gov Huckabee’s personal attorney and another representative contacted the Director of the State police and pressured him not to investigate. Director Bailey, director of the state police stated the following (from newsweek)
According to NEWSWEEK, Huckabee fired Arkansas State Police director John Bailey who refused to help coverup this criminal act of cruelty. According to Bailey, Huckabee told him one of the reasons he was being fired was because - “I couldn’t get you to help me with my son when I had that problem.”
“Without question, [Huckabee] was making a conscious attempt to keep the state police from investigating his son,” says I. C. Smith, the former FBI chief in Little Rock, who worked closely with Bailey and called him a “courageous” and “very solid” professional.
(loosecannonblogspot.com)
I heard huckabee on tv the other day telling a story about a woman who apparently had decided that she would not vote for him because he was a Christian, because she was a Christian too and felt a minister did not belong in politics. Well he made her out to be as vicious as he could, given he’d already said she was an older woman, and with a final imitation of her declaration, he laid his punchline on us, and said, (paraphrased)
“so I told her she wasn’t going to be in a place where she could vote for me anyway, cause I would be in God’s precinct”…I was delighted to hear deafening silence…tgfsf
so now, if you don’t like Huckabee, apparently you are going to hell. If you criticize him, you are against God, because “God has chosen [him] for prez and that is totally responsible for [his] sudden popularity”….(after Iowa caucus winner speech)
Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday:
“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,”"But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”
The American Constitution is “some contemporary view”? And precisely who’s idea of God’s standards are we talking about here? The one where we stone the sinners and stock detention halls at schools with a cat o nine tails? With respect, do yourselve’s and America a favor and google Huckabee + reconstructionists…
Ron Paul accidentally called this one dead on back before xmas…if fascism someday conquers us, it will do so while wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross…we can only bring ourselves down. We have to sit here and let it happen for it to happen.
I wonder how long it will be before people stop judging the character of others based on appearance, wit, wealth, beauty, status and so on and start looking at the fruits of their lives. Their personal ethics. Their voting records, the educations and knowledge, qualifications, consistencies and inconsistencies, their failures and weaknesses even more than success and strengths, its doubtful the successes will harm us…but the choices they made earlier in life can sure warn us of what will. …because you can’t believe anything most of them say, and life is NOT a friggin reality show.
It DOES matter, what they do with their lives. It should say something that a governor of a couple of terms, married for 30 +years, has his wife put them on the wedding registry at dept stores so that the general public could buy them gifts to furnish their new mansion…It should say something that he was so corrupt on the gift issue that they felt they needed and subsequently passed an ordinance preventing him from receiving gifts and HE FOUGHT IT> It is extremely pertinent that his office had to pay a settlement of $15,000.00 to a radio talk show host that they harrassed miserably, tried to ruin his reputation and drive him out of town!!! WAKE UP.
None of the surface stuff matters at all. but if one really wants to make a moral choice in a candidate, then one cannot refute and deny the negative that is justifiably reported, one must accept the reality and decide whether their own conscience is willing to take the moral rap for supporting and furthering the power and effect on others of a person with such huge disparities in what he says and what he does, as well as serious, obviousl dual personality issues compounded by inexperience and no real desire to inconvenience himself.
I have heard this “preacher” stand on a dias on national tv and admit
a. he didn’t really understand much of the bible, but he didn’t think that he was supposed to! A preacher telling people that they arent supposed to understand, so how many will take that and say, hey, why study? When faith and confirmation through study will be all that saves many souls from being deceived, according to the bible.
This same “man of God”, pursued, not the senate, or the congress, or a mayorship, but the governorship. The only elected positions that I know of other than judges and the president with the power of life and death. And no choice in the matter of being the one who must choose. When asked what Jesus would do, this “minister” could only offer a joke, followed up with nothing….because he’s got nothing, not a single pegleg to stand on. He’s a fake and inept. Not qualified for the job nor is he dignified enough for the job.
He destroyed, and I mean, first wiped, then CRUSHED over $300,000.00 worth of computer equip at the end of his term. The taxpayers were forced therefore to replace them for the new incumbent. The governor has historically come into office with a 1/2 million dollars in an “emergency fund”. That money is intended to tide over the city in times of disaster or other emergency. When the new governor came into office after Huck’s term, there were 0 dollars left in the account. The accounting of this money is avail. on the internet…and its not pretty.
As far as the person who suggested the dog was dangerous etc. If the dog had been dangerous, they would not have been able to take it and hang it and otherwise abuse it. It would have run or fought if it had been dangerous. NO. that dog was run down or lured like any other scared hungry abandoned animal would have been.
I agree that on the surface Mike seems like a nice guy, but when I say surface I mean the sheen on the skin, not the skin itself. Cross him or criticize him where a camera can’t catch him and get a genuinely rude awakening. what is on top is not what counts. Its not someone’s religion or declaration of christianity or title; remember please that Jim Jones was a fervent Christian minister too. I do not accuse Huckabee of being Jones’ equal (although the phat lady has yet to sing), but to provide perspective in terms of automatically attributing authority and morality based on such unimportant things as self promotion, title, and self declaration of faith…one’s faith SHOWS, which is why he should not have to mention it…constantly…In addition, if he didn’t have such a hard time comprehending the bible, as he himself stated, he would have seen the following;
Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
I am a follower of Christ, and I am an extremely conservative Republican, and if he was my only choice, I’d outsource the job.
What matters is the candidate’s moral compass, and Mike’s is spinning like he is in the Bermuda Triangle.
I have no personal beef w/ the man beyond my disappointment in him as an alleged spiritual leader and my downright disgust at his opportunistic self service while in office in Arkansas, as well as his gross misrepresentation of himself on the campaign trail, his incessent exploitation of God as well as the faith of many.
I was interested in him at first, and before I throw my energy passion and faith in character behind a candidate, I dig DEEP first. I actually vote my conscience so it has to be involved in the process.
As a result of my digging and research, I now have a list of very unpleasant, even shocking TRUTHS about that guy as long as my arm; all of which would no doubt dismay those decent people expressing support for him here. But every one of you sounds like a good person, who, if they knew what I now know, wouldn’t consider him for anything more morally complicated than prison warden. I feel certain that this, if it paid enough, would have been his dream job…
Before anyone nods eagerly at the thought of isolating aids by forcible detention of free people, Try to remember that babies and grandmas get aids too. They don’t have to do anything wrong, maybe just get born and or breastfed, or for grandma, a broken hip and bad blood and SNAP, both are in isolation in detention camps in Huckabee’s ideal world. I guess all we Christians can just feel good and self-righteous about the fact that granny and baby have each other…will that make it ok?
As far as his hopes of further deconstructing the Constitution of a country full of all kinds of people with all kinds of religions and few who can agree on much, try to visualize that ideal as it would apply to YOU if someone who did not agree with you got in office behind him
After disappointing research into every other republican candidate still in the race and half of the democrats just in case, I have settled on the one man who has a stark and unquestioned reputation for upholding the constitution, who has been named “the taxpayers best friend” a number of times; who’s principles are based on his personal faith in God and our God given birthright, liberty, true freedom, but for whom faith is still extremely personal and never exploited for personal gain; for the only man who’s never voted against the constitution in all his 10 terms in congress, who returns a portion of his congressional budget to the treasury each year; who’s never taken a paid junket; who’s office ALL corporate lobbyists DON’T EVEN BOTHER TO STOP AT, because HE IS NOT FOR SALE…. Who does not take advantage of anything not his to take, even the lucrative retirement program available to congress…he refused to sign on and will not participate. The only man who voted no for all congressional gold medals because it was unconstitutional for congress to approve such spending when the taxpayers are forced to foot yet another tax bill, in that case, $30,000.00 dollars. but who, when the name Rosa Parks came up, stood and proposed to the rest of congress that they consider a new tack in this one case, as he wanted her to have it, but his principles would not allow a yes vote, so he offered $100.00 out of his own pocket toward it, challenging the others in congress to do the same, so they could buy it for her themselves, but NOT ONE SINGLE CONGRESSMAN TOOK HIM UP ON IT. Instead, they voted to charge the taxpayers for it and kept their C-notes.
My vote is for the guy who has noticed our rights are missing, KNOWS there is a recession not coming, but here, KNOWS the dollar is virutally worthless and that we’re going broke and being financially colonized by China and Russia through our gigantic debt deficit. My choice wants me to be free, to have the right of habeus corpus and to be protected against rogue FBI agents who can now write their own warrants without the involvement of a judge.
Dr. Ron Paul is the only decent and PROVEN man in that race. The worst thing surrounding him was the result of his once naive view that he could trust those running a paper w/his name on it, but he did so because that is how he thinks…its the very beauty of the man, he was not suspicious because he fully expected to be treated the way they would want to be treated, because that is the way he treats everyone else. Innocent people are not terribly suspicious. Its those with secrets that suspect everyone else has secrets too. Its the larcenous heart that without cause suspects one of cheating.
I am proud of his denouncement of those passages, and that he took moral responsibility for them despite his utter lack of awareness of the writings until much later. I know that he abhors every single word. I also know that at 72 years of age, you could spend the rest of your life looking into his life and you will not find ANYTHING like that having come out of his mouth or his heart. Nothing that HE personally did that was unethical, unprincipled, inconsistent, self serving or in any other way that deviates from what we see in him every day.
Go look for tapes of his speeches from the 80s, and you will see him saying exactly what he is saying today, which in my book, makes him prophetic. He’s worth a listen, because he is our only hope. Consider Dr. Paul, there were some in here who described the man to a T in their list of expectations and hopes.
Huckabee, as nice a guy as he seems to be, has a checkered past, was even known as “taxhike mike” because despite his flip flopping on taxes during his gov, term, they were 500 million dollars higher per year in the end.
I dug very deep w/paul too, I read all of his books, I ve watched video of him from over a 30 year span, took his website apart, wrote at least 40 letters asking questions (that were ALL answered), scoured for quotes and recommendations and endorsements etc; hunted for dirt and rumor and untowards commentary and there was nothing negative other than the newsletters, which have now apparently been attributed by someone, to Mises (austrian economics) himself.
Dr. Paul really does cure your apathy, I am 50 years old, I thought it was too late for me, I was a big lump of cynicism and negativity, then I heard the doctor…and I was healed…with a vengeance. I have more energy, more ideas, more interest, more involvement, More FUN! and most important of all, I finally have real, honest to goodness, genuine HOPE…and its heels are dug in deep.
May you find it too.
sorry for the rant…but I sincerely think people should know what they are considering. I apologize ahead of time if the information contained herein offends them; but if it helps, I didn’t want it to be true either.
Annje,
Thanks for barking in. The more information we get on all the candidates, the better.
I think this is very relevant to Huckabee’sability to lead our country as president…apples do not fall far from the tree, and this story highlights and confirms my belief that Huckabee is just one more in the line of dirty politicians! I am noit judging him on the actions of his son, but his actions following the incident. Sounds like obstruction off justice to me. Huckabee is an evil, vile man. He is a liar and a hypocrite and a danger to our country.
I personally will NOT vote for this man, if you choose to label him one, I for one do NOT! He allowed his son to get away with a heinous crime against an animal, tried to conceal it and has done nothing in the way of animal rights in ANY office he’s held! He’s a detriment to animal welfare and rights, as well as women’s rights! Karma is a wonderful thing…and the Huckabee’s will REAP what they Have Sowed!
Everyone does now that this is how serial killers start, will animal abuse, mutilation and killing. If you don’t believe me pick a name out of the air and check it out. Jeffrey Dahmer anyone? I’m sorry I know Mr. Huckabee Sr. did not personally take part in this (?) but if you can’t even raise your kid right, you should not be running a country. And the fact Huckabee buried it just goes to show you what kind of President he would be, more of the same lies and deception.
Well, I think you are all right out of your minds. You’ve clearly blown it out of proportion, confirming the fears of the people who apparently tried to keep it quiet. The quote doesn’t at all lead one to believe that his son “tortured animals.” This was one instance–one mistake, even, and he payed the price if it was a mistake. There’s a world of difference between enjoying the suffering of a living creature, and trying to put it out of its perceived (whether mistakenly or unmistakenly) misery.
Basically, while there aren’t enough facts to show that he was without fault in the matter, there certainly aren’t enough to support some of the ludicrous claims I’ve been reading, and by which I found my way to this blog from a YouTube video that claims simply that “when David Huckabee was 17 he hung, slit the throat, and stoned a stray dog to death,” and has a “history of animal cruelty.”
Have any of you ever put an animal out of its misery? I had to do it with a mouse once, because it was hopelessly caught in one of those adhesive mouse-traps. It wasn’t easy, I didn’t have a little gun to put to its head (do they have guns in the Boy Scouts these days?).
