Goodby Earl, Mutts Muse Dies at 18

Imagine the difference one dog can make in the world. Earl, the muse behind the comic strip “Mutts,” has passed to the Rainbow Bridge. Earl was 18.
Through the Mutts comic strip, Earl was able to reach millions of humans with his message of care and concern for our furfriends. People who otherwise would never have thought twice about the treatment of our dog and cat symbiotes have learned that chaining dogs is bad and that our furkids dream with us.
Earl, you will be missed here but I have no doubt your influence will continue to be felt from the Bridge.
Here is the beginning of the post from Muttscomics.com.
Saying goodbye to our dear friend, Earl McDonnellIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Earl, Patrick’s canine companion for 18+ years, and steadfast muse for the MUTTS strip. Earl was a joyful dog with a zest for life. He will be greatly missed by Patrick and his wife, Karen, their cat MeeMow, and the entire MUTTS family.

RIP sweet Earl. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family tonight.

Love and hugs
We are very sad for Earl’s family…..we send good thinks and healing hugs to them.
Our heart goes out to Earl’s family. The Mutts strip has touched our hearts in many ways. Brought tears to our eyes as we remember our own furkids who have passed and brought laughter to our hearts as we see similarities between the comic strip and our current furkid. Thank you Earl.
RIP Earl….I just LOVE “Mutts” and read it every day!
We’re so sorry for your family’s loss, RIP sweet boy. Murphy will meet you at the bridge!
Love, Rachel and the Pack

This strip is one of my favorites and my heart goes out to Earls family. There were times I cried when I read the strip but more often I laughed. I send all my thoughts to the family.
What a sad day for the world. Patrick McDonnell, the creator of Mutts, has always been a true believe in rescuing animals, and has supported animals and rescues. My heart goes out the the McDonnell family… we’ll see Earl at the Rainbow Bridge.
