Save New Jersey German Shepherd Congo from Unfair Death Sentence! Make a Call Now!
Joy

rosie.jpg

Please Crosspost!

You may have already seen this post in one of your Dogster groups. I got this message from Nikki and Rosie in President Isabel’s Animal Abuse Commission.

Talk about patently unfair! Anyone who knows dogs would expect Congo to act as he did. Moreover, why can’t Congo’s family sue the gardening company for harm to the puppies and manhandling the woman?

I called and it took quite a while for someone to answer. So let the phone ring until someone answers. They seem to be getting deluged with calls. Keep it up until the NJ governor understands we are watching AND calling!

IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS YOU CAN HELP!

This is a crosspost. I called and they really are taking a poll…it does only take less than a minute..just say you are “calling aobut Congo” and they will ask if you are for or against saving him! NJ, NY and PA residents most important..but EVERYONE can help!

Congo, the GSD, LOST his court case today! This is a death sentence for this beautiful dog!

Please call 609-292-6000 TODAY to tell the governor that Congo should NOT be put down! They are taking a tally of people who are AGAINST putting this dog down. If enough people call in, it will save his life!

I called in and it took only a minute of my time. PLEASE CALL TODAY!!

Here’s the post:

URGENT!!!! - Congo Lost in Court - PLS CALL NJ GOV CORZINE TO OVERRIDE!!

The governor’s office is taking calls and they are doing a tally of people who are for or AGAINST putting this GSD down. Plz take a second to call as his life is on the line here!!! O tell them wut state you are from!!!

Thanks!

PLEASE CROSS POST

For those not familiar with Congo’s case:
1. two illegal immigrants were gardening at the family’s house
2. they arrived an hour early
3. they were told by the husband to stay in their truck until he could
get out of the shower and get some clothes on
4. the husband speaks Spanish and spoke to them in Spanish so there is
no question they understand what they were told to do
5. they directly disobeyed the husband and walked into the backyard with
the wife, who had just pulled into the driveway)
6. the two adult gsd’s and their puppies came running
7. the gardeners panicked
8. ONE GARDENER GRABBED THE WIFE AND WRESTLED HER TO THE GROUND, USING
HER AS A PROTECTIVE SHIELD
9. Congo thought his owner was being attacked and went after the gardener
10. The gardener used his rake to beat at the puppies and inflicted some injuries on them.
11. the gardener changed his story three times (interesting note on official bias: when the owner said the gardener changed his story five times, the dog warden said “No, he only changed his story 3 times.”)

EVERYONE PLEASE WRITE & CALL New Jersey Gov.Corzine Urge him to OVERRIDE CONGO’s DEATH SENTENCE

Gov.’s office is taking a numerical tally on how many people call - please call him

I made my call! Save Congo! They said they’re getting numerous calls in his favor. Please help him out. Any of our dogs would’ve done the same thing! And that’s part of the reason we love them so much.

  2. Debbie

I just called. They were very nice.
I feel much better… YOU WILL TOO.

  3. Regina Frau

I live in Washington State but I am from NJ. I am quite embarassed to be from Jersey. This is utterly ridiculous! I have a GSD and I would EXPECT him to protect me if he thought I was in danger! Corzine is an idiot. This dog is not vicious nor dangerous. He’s doing what he is supposed to do–protect his pack!

I emailed them my complaint and support for Congo.

  4. President Isabel Roverandom

To put down a dog who was only defending his family (exactly what you would expect a loyal dog to do) would be a travesty of a mockery of a sham, and yet another blow by the Massive Attack of Shabbiness. Call for Congo!

  5. Rinquetlene

    Hello
I’ve just registered at the forum. This is my first message.
Please don’t become angry about me.
    Thank you.

  6. Olga Diaz

This is an outrage! They already paid those dummies a lot of cash for an incident THEY provoked! What is to gain with Congo’s death?! The judge shows total lack of compassion and common sense, FREE CONGO NOW!!

  7. praying for congo and pups

This is a very conflicting story indeed! PLEASE SAVE CONGO!!! I have been reviewing these stories and have seen articles where it was stated the owners were not treating Congo too nice! I hope this is not true, however even if it is POOR CONGO even more so!!!! PLEASE FREE THIS POOR PUP AND HEY LET’S GET RID OF SOME OF THESE ILLEGALS! i WOULD NEVER HIRE ONE NO MATTER HOW CHEEP THEY WORK FOR!!! c.h.

  8. praying for congo and pups

Also I am making petitions and have called the Gov. PLEASE ALL GO DOOR TO DOOR OR LOCAL BUSINESSES AND PLACE PETITIONS ON THE COUNTERS WITH THE STORY THAN FORWARD TO THE GOV> KEEP COPIES!!!! G.L. ALL

  9. Emily Parslow

I too have German Shepherd Dogs and have had for
the last 30 years. This occurrance has gotten my attention as I can see my dogs doing the same thing under the same circumstances. It is horrible to even consider that they would be labeled as dangerous simply for defending me.

Many are stating that human beings are more important than dogs and that this dog attacked a human. Let me ask
this, who goes around robbing, raping and molesting children. Unfortunately, the answer is humans. If my dogs
are put in a position to defend me, unfortunately, it will be
from humans. That is the society we live in.

I am also very curious to know when, in our great quest to see justice done, this “undocumented worker” is going to
be deported. If anyone broke the law, he did the minute he
    entered this country ilegally.

  10. Mother of 2 terriers

He is home as of 11/16!! Run Congo Run!!

  11. must love dogs, & people too

FYI - the reason that the owner did not sue the landscape company owner is that they are brothers. Both of these individuals had a very strong stake in laying blame on the victim of the attack.

  12. Mother of 2 terriers

That isnt true; please check story

  13. Ron McKenna

The judge is an idiot. He has no humane concern for ths precious pet. It was the immigrant’s fault, and the immigrant should be punished, not Congo.

  14. Karla Blonshine

I have read various accounts of what happened that morning and no matter who did what, this is what it comes down to.
A stranger to the dog entered its territory. The man showed fear. Dogs react to fear, which prompted the attack. This does not make the dog vicious. See the following link for information from an expert on how to ‘prevent’ dog bites. http://www.dogscouts.com/biteprevention.shtml
So, this was an unfortunate accident. The owners of Congo did not intend for their dog to attack and the landscapers need to learn something about dog behavior if they are going to work around dogs, just as mail carriers and utility people have.
The Jameses should be responsible for the medical bills and offer a sincere apology….nothing more. Congo should be free, he’s a family dog, not some vicious animal. People are just too quick to sue and the amount being awarded by the court is outrageous!!!!

  15. Lady Bird Jesse

I agee, re: the real violators of the law are the illegal immigrants who worked for the landscaping company - plus, the one who was “attacked”. Giovanni Rivera now has $250,000 in his pocket and he’s in this country illegally!! per all news articles I’ve read. It figures…… why weren’t they charged with being illegals?? Watch those landscaping companies - they’re filled with em. P.S. - if you have dogs and you have contractors working at your home, protect yourself - keep your dogs safely away from any workers so nothing like this can happen.

  16. Diane Delorenzo

I just called the governors office, they could not be nicer. we can make a difference! I am embarrassed how the Judge has treated this case.
The landscaper is set for life, and he should be ashamed of himself! Is he in this country legally? I have not heard much on that subject.
That is something that should be brought up.

  17. little gigi

Lady Bird Jessee - you are exactly right (also Emily Parslow!) If anyone wants to read the facts about these workers legal status in this county - all you have to do is google “Giovianni Rivera” - you’ll see several articles I read - one in the “Trentonian” and one in the “Princeton News” both stating this Mr. Rivera and the one who hit the dogs with the rake were illegals.

Let’s take this one step further - putting all political correctness aside: A) What if you or I were the “victims” of a dog bite from one of these gentlemen’s dogs - would they have homeowner’s insurance in order to pay us 250,000 plus our medical bills? B) What if you or I were in a car accident with one of these guys? Would they have car insurance to fix our car or pay for our medical bills? Or would we be stuck having our own car insurance foot the bill? Bottom line….we as law abiding citizens will always end up footing the bill for those who want to enjoy all this county offers expect to when it comes to those little things like being here legally. P.S. - another little trick - I live in N.J. - watch closely - illegals live in N.J. - notice all their vehicles have P.A. license plates - this is another loophole. They register vehicles in P.A. without getting N.J. car insurance.

    I called !

I hope it can make a difference and save Congo!

  20. Chris

I wondered how many comments I would have to read before ugly, racism reared its head–unfortunately, not too many.

First, I do not believe Congo should be put do death. The real problem is with his owners. Congo’s owners are LIABLE for their dog’s behavior, much like parents are for their children’s behavior. The dogs should not have been out in the yard when the gardeners were planned to come to work on the yard. I love dogs and we have always had wonderful canine companions in our family; however, we NEVER put people at risk with our dogs.

Moreover, the comments criticizing the man who was injured for “showing fear” are so uttlerly absurd I don’t think they deserve a response, except to say what else is someone supposed to show when a huge dog comes charging at them?

Also, the comments about the man’s ALLEGED immigration status are not only IRRELEVANT (because someone’s immigration status does not mean they should or shouldn’t be bitten by a dog), but really hypocritical. Congo’s owners were PAYING the man to work on their yard. Yes, I know he was an employee of the landscaping company, but don’t tell me Congo’s owners weren’t turning a blind eye to the fact that the landscape company was employing illegal immigrants to work on THEIR yard–if in fact, the victim is here illegally.

Yes, Congo deserves to be spared. Of course, it’s too bad Congo can’t trade his sentence with some of the stupid, racist posters to this blog.

  21. jacob

WOW i love how in this country we put a dog before a human. those of you who say this is the immigrants fault i would like to say to you that i hope the ignorance you have be over comed senseablity. i dont agree the die should die but the way this person describes what happen is rediculous. the dogs owner himself said that he was “disgusted” with remarks that people have made about the immigrant. anyone who lashes at the immigrant should remember it is not he who wants the dog put down. REMEMBER DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE!!!

  22. Leevert

I love dogs. However, what people forget is that the only natives are the Native Americans. WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS, FORCED OR BY FREE WILL. The dogs should not have attacked the landscape artist! Period. These people who are fighting for the protection of dogs also fail to realize that there are more important things to spend their time on like protecting the human rights of everyone, poverty etc. These are the same people willing to villify Michael Vick primarily because he is African American, however how is it that there is a professional hockey player still playing who was involved in vehicular manslaughter, yet still playing. Hmm!!!! Bottom line, the dog’s behavior was excessive and just as biased as the judge is against Vick and his co-defendants, this judge should used whatever bias he seems fit against Congo.

  23. Human

Respect the law, and respect the judge’s decision.

The dog is guilty of a vicious attack because it is
an ANIMAL. Get over it people. This animal and another dangerous animal that has attacked a human needs to go.

  24. Graig

People seem to be forgeting the most important part of this story!! (Did the landscaper finish the job!!!) I mean come on this lady has rights. she has the right to have a manicured lawn..

  25. Joy

    Leevert,

Thank you for barking in but before you state unequivocally that those who worked to put Michael Vick away are racist, think again. I am proud to count myself among those who are glad to see Vick get retribution for his heinous crimes.

We are not racist; we love animals and want to live in a society that values kindness and civility. We have pursued justice for abused animals against many different people of all races. Race is unimportant. Behavior is important and needs to be rewarded or punished.

In fact, Vick’s public shame has already done some good. People who would never have turned in dogfighters in their communities are now calling and getting them arrested. We can thank Vick for that. Many of us have been preaching against dogfighting and because the criminals were primarily unknowns, few people paid attention. Vick has made it not so great to be a dogfighter.

And back to the facts on Congo. Congo was in HIS yard when the workers entered the yard against the orders of the homeowners. Congo did what he was supposed to do. End of story.

  26. Paul

Ok…Nick needs to be on another board designated for hate. The GSD is a dog bread for herding, police work and rescue efforts…not an animal used to purposely attack human beings. HUMAN BEINGS. Anyway, Congo was protecting his family and property and does not need to be killed for doing what every dog should do.

  27. Bo

Congo needs to be put down. Any animal that would attack a person who is just trying to do their job should be killed. To hell with this rich family who raises a dog to attack others and then goes on TV with their kids pleading for the dogs life.

  28. W Dwayne

The real joke is that the illegal immigrant - not immigrant - the illegal immigrant was granted 250K for his medical bills.
Illegals don’t pay for their medical bills. They show up at county hospital with no permanent address, no social security number, no telephone number. The law states that we must treat them. Once they are discharged we can never find them. I have seen them throw their paperwork in the garbage can on their way out. Illegals don’t pay medical bills.
I don’t even understand a judicial system that rewards someone who has turned up their noses at our laws in the first place.

  29. RJ

In my opinion, owners are responsible for the acts of their dogs. They shouldn’t kill the dog for doing what comes naturally… and that is attacking when they feel threatened. Punish the owners of the dog for not controlling him, don’t punish Congo.

  30. levotb

Any of the above posters who think that justice was done so far and that Congo should die are chicken***t left-wing scum. Did you see the crying children of that nice family? That family is about to be destroyed by a lefty judge and a lefty governor whose own life many of us on the other side were prayinig for not just a few months ago after his awful auto accident.

    FREE CONGO!!

  31. Mark

Hey Your Daddy and Bo are you serious?? I mean come on.Lets put the shoe on the other foot and say it was your Mom , sister or wife being used as a shield and thrown to the ground. Most dogs WILL defend its owner especially a German Shepard. These workers were asked to stay IN their vehicle until the man of the house was done showering and getting dressed. They did not! Then according to the story they had rakes in their hands and beat the puppies and had the rake raised in the air as to strike. Congo did the RIGHT thing the migrant workers did the WRONG thing its that simple. Your daddy you say “that’s what’s wrong with our Country” Are you serious? I would praise my dog if it protected my wife! Not to mention defending a dog that has done the right thing! What about the cash settlement this illegal immigrant has received? Who’s pocket has that come out of? These men came here illegally and are working in our country not paying taxes. That is what is wrong with this country! Yes they are human and more important than any animal but the animal in this case was in the right and the humans in this case were in the WRONG wake up people and THINK before you post!

  32. Bunch of Haters

Like I said, that’s what’s wrong with our country… I placed an entry, and it gets wiped off… Here are a bunch of postings about Illegal immigrant this…illegal immigrant that… and blah blah blah… just a bunch of CRYING…but when I put a post… oh yeah, it gets wiped off… why, cuz I SPOKE MY OPINION as protected by OUR RIGHTS!!!! Y’ALL TALK ABOUT HOW ONLY CITIZENS HAVE RIGHTS, WELL, I AM A CITIZEN AND MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH WAS REMOVED…THIS ONLY PROVES THAT YOU GUYS ARE NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF IGNORANT FOLKS… DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, MOVE OUT OF THE TRAILOR PARK!

  33. Joy

    Dear Haters,
I am leaving your most recent post on the blog for one reason — to help others understand why a post is removed or edited.

As the Editor of the blog I will let the chatter move in many ways without deleting or even editing posts. I firmly belief that we need to have many points of view in these discussions so everyone can better understand others viewpoints. However, when comments become personal, use derogatory language aimed at other posters or use unnecessarily rough language then I remove the post.

No apologies for removing posts that add nothing to the discussion or demonstrate “trollish” behavior. That’s not an abrogation of your rights. If you want to have your say, however violent or vile, please feel free to start your own blog.

WHAT A WAIST OF TIME….. LET IT RUN
    SAVE CONGO
CALL THE INS ON THEM MORE WAIST OF TIME
250 K for more DOGS LIKE CONGO
    AT TAXPAYERS DOLLARS PLEASEEEEEEEE!!!

  37. Joy, please read this

So hold up, you seem to wipe off comments that are violent and have any negative comments…. but yet, I read comments like, “Kill the wetback” or “let them get more dogs to bite wetbacks” Yeah, your hypocricy is pretty obvious.

Just shows what a dog loving person with a web-site, who happens to be just as ignorant can do!

  38. John

So sad to see how we threat illegal immigrants as sub human today. As a dog owner I do not want to see this dog put to sleep but better trained.

I have another question. Is there evidence showing the landscape workers were indeed provoking the dog?

  39. Take him away, READ THIS

I too love animals. Have you seen the pictures? It wasn’t a bite, HE GOT MAULED!!!!!!! This was a violent act!
All of their dogs should be taken away. They were careless and know the blame is shifted to the person who was attacked. GOD forbid if that dog attacks a child or a neighbor, then the judge, Governor, chief of police and everyone else would be to blame for not putting him down like he is supposed to be. Most people are stuck on the fact that these men are illegal, They didn’t attack our country on 911, they came to build it on cheap labor like our country is known for. If you are so pissed off about illegals taking american jobs, What about the american companies that are manufacturing everything in china. Its the same thing.

  40. RLoveall

Save the dog, deport the illegals (after he’s returned the money). The dog was doing his job…oh, and BTW, why not send Congo to help the Border Patrols!

I agree…if he was a K-9 protecting his officer, he’d be a hero. Since the illegal landscapers were TOLD to remain in their truck and chose to ignore it, the dog shouldn’t be punished and PTS for doing his job of protecting the woman and property!!!!!

  41. Ignorance

IGNORANCE - we live in the 21st Century and yet people seem ignorant as ever. I love dogs, cats, and all types of animals. Yet, this was a very vicious attack that should not go un-punished. An illegal-immigrant is a human being and regardless they should be treated like one.
In regards to “JOY’s” comments about deleting certain blogs which seem racist….the last one about that guy MARK seemed pretty racist and offensive, wonder what happened there?

MARK- Even though you go to a great university it still seems you have not learned anything. It seems you’re more like a child then anything.

  42. Joy

    Ignorance,

The way this blog is designed, all comments that are not immediately marked as spam immediately post in comments. I review all comments for appropriateness but since I am not reviewing 24 hours a day, some comments that ARE inappropriate do get posted. As soon as I review them, however, I take them down if they do not fit the blog comment guidelines. So you may occasionally see comments that subsequently get removed.

In most cases, this has not been a problem.

Once again, lt me stress that all comments must pertain to the topic and not be offensive by personally attacking other commenters or using bad language. This is blog is open and available to people of all ages.

  43. Warren

I am appalled at the decision of the judge and the governor to euthanize an animal protecting his home and family. This is not to mention the fact that an illegal alien in OUR country has the right to not only sue but to be awarded two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for accosting one of Congos family members (The wife). If you want to do the right thing deport the illegal alien(s) back to where ever he/they came from, give the family back their money and give Congo a dog treat for doing HIS job. Now its time for you to do YOUR job and overrule that incompetent judge and let Congo go back home where he belongs.

    Best Regards,
    An American

  44. Dog Lover

First, It is the owners responsibility to make sure that the dog is friendly and no human is at risk at all times. That is why the insurance is paying on behalf of them for thier liability and personal default in this case, and they should be lucky that they are not in jail by now.

Second, why all this hate twards illagal immigrants? I understand that an illegal allien could/should be deported but that is no reason to spew all this hate. what if the dog bite a white person or a child ? deport them too?

  45. Baba Booey

    Wake Up People,

From every post I’ve read on this blog, I see no “hate”, no “racism” against illegal immigrants. What I see is outrage against a liberal justice system and a liberal judge. Please don’t write and say and I am uninformed. I live very close to Princeton, NJ. Why don’t you people google and read some NEWS ARTICLES that state the facts. Re: The Trentonian and the Princeton News to name a few for example. It’s not that hard to read up on some facts instead of relying on your own personal views. As far as certain posters complaining of “hate” towards illegal immigrants, let’s stop being politically correct here…..we’re talking about mexicans right? Well, how about if members of Al-Quada, or other extremist terrorists groups entered this country as illegal immigrants and killed another few thousand Americans? FACE THE FACTS - ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARE NOT ONLY MEXICANS!! THEY CAN BE TERRORISTS TOO!! Now, then will we sound like a bunch of cry babies putting a dog over humans?

Lastly, Joy’s posted related to Michael Vick was right on target - it had nothing to do with race. It opened up people’s eyes to animal abuse - he just happened to be a famous person involved in it and luckily it made major news coverage.

I agree with Lady Bird Jesse and Little Gigi and
every Congo supporter. I have called and e-mailed the Governor in support of this beautiful animal.

  46. Gina Calogero

I just saw this story on Fox news. I hope my dog would do the same thing. I called and emailed the governor of NJ. It doesnt matter whether the owners are rich and the victim illegal. The fact is the gardeners did not act appropriately and the dog did. They are lucky it wasn’t me. If they had hit or touched me or my dog a mauling would be the least of their worries. I grew up in NY and moved away as soon as possible…Makes me sick I’ve lived in the south for over 25 yrs and down here we have a saying..Never mind the dog, beware of owner..

  47. Kay Kidder

I totally sympathize with this family, but they are ignoring certain political realities. I am from Texas and it is very clear to me that because the victims were illegal aliens, Congo will not get an impartial hearing. Every socioethnic group is involved in a proamnesty pro open borders agenda, and Congo is going to be sacrificed for this. This family needs to get their lawyer to concede that Congo is a dangerous dog so his life will be spared. They shoud also have him neutered so sexual frustration will not be a possible factor.

  48. Ann

They should euthanize the stupid family for hiring an illegal and leave the dog alone!

  49. owner of 3 GSD

I am going to call first thing in the morning. I have 3 GSD dogs and they are all big babies BUT God bless the stranger that comes into my yard or house and grabs any of the poeple in our family. Congo was doing what any dog wog would do. he should not be punished he should be rewarded for putting his life on the line for his owners. Remember not only was the Mrs. James outside but Congos mate and puppies were there too. He did what he had to do to protect all involved. Here is another case of illegals not speaking Rnglish coming here and making waves. Send him back to his homeland and let Congo live his life like the HERO he is. SAVE CONGO NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. Jen

It isn’t about the victim’s race or citizenship. This emphasis on “immigrant/race status” will hurt the defense of Congo. It isn’t even about the $250,000.00 payoff he received for his injuries. The issue at hand is that Congo is being sentenced for the very instinct that makes him a German Shepherd, watch dog, or loyal companion. If we kill Congo because he proved to be vicious while being provoked…why stop there? He is no different than all German Shepherds in that their breed is one of protection and loyalty. Why do police use them? If we kill Congo for his behavior, it would be only fair to kill ALL dogs who would display such loyalty and protection under similar situations. This would mean that there would be few dogs left in the world. My Aussie would most definitely attack someone if the laid hands on me…but should we kill her? What is next? If Congo was OUT of his territory and not provoked by seeing his master being tackled to the ground, yet still attacked…I could see a point to this…but THIS CASE IS UNJUST unless we were to kill all dogs who display loyalty. That is obviously nonsense…just like this judgment against an upright dog doing what DOGS ARE BRED TO DO.

  51. Jen

Remember, it is not the victim, immigrant or not, who is sentencing Congo to death…it is the JUDGE. Therefore it is our own court or law that needs rewriting or convincing. If we stand together, we might effect something. BUT, to add credibility to our case, QUIT the emphasis of the victim’s citizenship status, as that really has nothing to do with the case. It will turn people AGAINST Congo who feel as though this is an immigration case, WHICH IT IS NOT. Congo deserves the best chance possible. Let’s KEEP FOCUSED people! Let’s save this dog who deserves a reward for protecting his family.

  52. Justa

It is very easy to blame the human being in this case. Should the human being unable to control their dog be at fault? Or the human being who was attacked be at fault?

Now, let’s take this a set further - imagine if the human being who was mauled was an adorable blond haired, blue eyed 10-year old girl. Now… would all of you jump to the defense of the dog so quickly?

Think hard and and be truthful to yourself. It could be a 5-year old girl next.

Nice dog, innocent dog, it’s the owners responsibility, I don’t care.
That dog attacks any one of my children, and he meets his fate instantly, along with anyone who wants to be a shield.
Humans always first, animals, take a back seat.

  54. Baba Booey

    Dear Human,

Well, pray to god that a “human” never “attacks” one of your children because if you ensure that he/she meets his fate, YOU’LL be the be in in facing charges just as this “animal” is. The law works both ways MOST IMPORTANTLY Humans vs. humans - you don’t have the right to right to ensure anyone’s “fate” - sorry…..that’s why we have a justice system. It may you feel good to spout off about what you would do to “someone who acts like a shield” but beware…..what then happens to you???? Just as you think that Congo did not have any right to protect the lady who was pushed down by the gardener than why would you think you would have the right to “ensure someone’s fate”?

That’s why we people are showing support to Congo - an animal who was behind a fence on his own property and approached by strangers who were told DO NOT ENTER THE PROPERTY.

Go Congo!! Continue your e-mails and phone calls - don’t let this case become a precedent. Especially those of you who live in N.J.

P.S. - What kind of behaviorial training, etc., did this Princeton, NJ “dog warden” have? What is the criteria to become a dog warden? What expertise did he have to testify in court and say …..the dog was fed a raw diet and this causes aggression…. Saw this was part of his court testimony. Give me a break.

  56. Human

Under the fear for the threat to a human life, a dog would rightfully meet its fate. Any human being who is non-threatening does not deserve to be viciously attacked by an animal, I repeat animal. Animals don’t know any better but that is no excuse to create the conditions for this to happen again.

A Judge does not need animal behavioral training. A judge knows the law, applies the law, and in this case, applies the law for the public safety.

Sorry Congo, I hope you attacked your last human victim.

And yes, I did e-mail the Governor, to ask him to stand by the Judge’s decision.

  57. Frisco

Let Congo live. I have a German Shepherd who loves my wife so much. He follows her around all day and would lay down his life to protect her. He would do the same thing. If it happened to me, we would all be on the run. I would not let anyone “put him down”. We would become outlaws.

I plan to call the Governor tomorrow.

  58. Lady Bird Jesse

    Human,

Can you read??? The judge did not testify - the DOG WARDEN TESTIFIED REGARDING HIS OPINION OF THE DOG’S BEHAVIOR AND FUTURE BEHAVIOR. Can you read a newspaper?

P.S - I see you changed your attitude in response to Baba Booey’s post. What happened to “would meet his fate instantly along with anyone who wants to act as a shield” - don’t want to be in front of THAT judge do ya??? Now all of the sudden it’s just about the animal meeting his fate - not a human??

Why don’t we just get rid of all “vicious” dogs after all, they’re just “animals” and take a back seat to humans, right??- including bomb sniffing dogs, drug sniffing dogs, police dogs, border patrol dogs, search and rescue dogs, etc. You must be a cat lover.

GO CONGO GO. I have e-mailed and called in my support for him to the Governor.

  59. doglover

I just want to say when I was little we had a Old English dog who bit my neighbor the town said we had to but her sleep my parents kept saying she was protecting our home , you see our neighbor came into our yard and the dog bit him no one was home .I wish we could have saved her she was not “viciousâ€? but a protector just like CONGO. I hope they don’t put CONGO to sleep like they did to mine .

  60. Human

Yes, Bird, I can read. Can you think?

Animals do not think. They eat, bark, bite, and attack, and afterwards, they don’t know what they’ve done.

Sorry, I won’t give a guilty animal a second chance to attack another human being. Most humans can think what is best for other humans, can you?

If you can read, the judge made the decision, not the testimony, can you understand what you’ve read?

  61. Lady Bird Jesse

    Human,

I believe that a judge makes a decision AFTER he/she HEARS TESTIMONY FROM EXPERTS and WITNESSES. Or maybe…let me scratch my head……he/she just sits there….thinks a minute… and exclaims…”guess what! “I’ve made a decision” - just like in a murder trial - right?? nobody testifies - the judge just thinks about it for a while and decides based on his/her mood.

Well, Human - you’ve already lost the battle. Congo is home and it looks like he’s staying there.

And if a dog can’t think - why can’t you respond - why do us “humans” risk their lives when we use them for search and rescue, police dogs, bomb sniffing, drug sniffing, etc. Those who can’t think - can’t help humans, rights???

Sorry - Congo the dog has won this battle. This bird has flown the coop - you’ll never get it.

Congo is nothing short of a hero! If her husband was there to defend her , everyone would proclaim him a hero; but because a dog was there defending his family, as he was meant to , he is now on trial for his life. He is a loyal family dog , not a killer. Anyone else would defend their family in the same manner when they had to. His teeth are his only means to do so. Congo is not a public threat, he just saved a family member. The Man who grabbed that woman deserved it for touching her. What would have happened if Cong wasnt there? Thank God for good dogs like him. His life should be more than spared, but revered. Please save Congo!

  63. Jennifer

Congo is nothing short of a hero! If the womans husband was there to defend her, everyone would proclaim him a hero;it wouldn’t be a question, but because it was a dog, congo, He is now on trial for his life. Anyone would protect their family when necessary, and that’s what he did; exactly what any of us would do. He has only his teeth to do so becase that’s what nature gave him. He is NOT a public threat but a loyal family dog who reacted appropriatly when his family was threatened. What if Congo wasn’t there to save her? What then ? That man should never have touched her. Save this couragous dog. Thank God for good dogs like Congo.

  64. Todd A. Jimenez

Congo is a hero. Every day police use K-9’s to protect other police officers and civilians in the same manner that Congo did. When a person is physically theatened, dogs are there to protect them in the same manner Congo did. Congo is a hero that did what he was supposed to do, if Congo wasn’t there, we would be reading about another rape or murder in the news. Congo should be exonerated of any charges, and given a medal like every other hero and reunited with his family.

  65. Human

Take a look at the pictures of the victim.

Yeah, Congo’s a hero all right, he made a hero-sandwich out of that poor defenseless gardener (underpaid beautification environmental engineer).

  66. Tim

Would this be the illegal immigrant landscaper that should go back home to his own country? By the way he could pay for his own travel with the quarter of a million he got from the insurance company.

  67. Tim

This dog only did what is in his natural instinct. Had the illegal been a dog this would have been a fight to the death as it is in nature. This dog IS a hero and should be rewarded for his work instead being killed.

On a side note I own a German Shepherd and a 9mm and had this guy or any of his associates come to my house and put one hand on my wife or touch any of the other dogs. It would depend on which one of us (me or my dog) gets to them first the fate of this person is absolutely sealed. It is a death sentence for sure!!

  68. Samantha

I think Congo should be saved and the gardener should be jailed. Congo is a HERO! The gardener is a criminal and he was trespassing and commited crulety to puppies and threw a woman to the ground. Any one fo theose things should have him jailed!
A common remark is the gardener was trying to make a living and I understand the gardener was trying to make a living, but I am a bartender and if a cop can send in someone of age, but looks kind of young and if I don’t card that person ~ “I” who is also trying to make a living will go to jail. If you are trying to make a living or not you need to respect the law! Congo thought his mommy/owner was being attacked and did what any decent human or dog would do and tried to protect her! Even the most passive person/dog will protect his loved ones!
Oh, BTW you can tell a if a person is a good person or not very easily! Do they love animals? If so then they are usually good hearted people! :)

This dog was doing his job. The gardener overstepped his bounds and common sense. Those of us who get a dog for a guarddog/companion/pet expect him to protect us. The breed of the dog and the legality of immigrant status should not even be brought into question. The legal precident a case like this sends is that Americans cannot protect their families and properties as they see fit. This was not a random biting. The dog was not off his property. The gardener was at fault. the dog and his family should not be punished.

  72. Maria

Does anyone have an update on this yet? I have begged every elected official I know to save Congo as I have the pleasure of living in NJ. We must save all the Congos in the world and not let these people get away with making the decisions that affect our furry children.

  73. Joy

    Maria,

The most recent update I have is that Congo is still at risk. His supporters are urging people to keep calling teh governor’s office.

Are you clowns going to protest again now that Congo attacked another person and had to be destroyed?

Yesterday, Congo and his family nearly killed his owner’s mother-in-law! She was mauled and has a broken hip. (She is a 75 year old woman & obviously no threat to the dogs.)

The owner claims the dogs were just being playful. This is ridiculous.

Goodness, where has common sense gone…..the judge was correct in his original order……Congo should have been put down. The unfortunate compaign to save Congo nearly cost the life of another person…..a family member no less.

Animal scan be wonderful pets, but when they become unpredictable and dangerous they should not be allowed to roam freely, esp. near children & others who cannot defend themselves!

(I don’t understand why there was such reluctance to cooperate with the authorities….afterall it is there responsibility to protect the public……..in this case the experts were ignored & the consequences were nearly tragic!)

  78. Ben

I guess the dog was just doing his job when he attacked the old woman.

  79. GOOD THING YOU ALL SAVE CONGO

So that he could now BRUTALLY attack a member of his own family!!! Justice is PRICELESS!!! That dog bit the poor landscaper over 96 times but he was doing his job to protect his family? That dog was back them and was until he was finally put down …..a danger to anyone around him. I hope all of you that went to such GREAT lenghts to SAVE him are proud of you efforts!
