Demo: the Story of a Junkyard Dog — A Review
I’m going to say this right now — Demo: The Story of a Junkyard dog is a new classic! Between the excellent story and the fabulous artwork, this graphic novel should take its place among the books that every children’s library should have on its shelves.
Do you need a present for a dog-loving child? Do you collect graphic artwork? Do you want a book that will help build the love of dogs in a child or children? Do you want to help fight Pit Bull fear among children? Are you or someone you know a Pit Bull supporter? Here is your book! Demo is at the top of my list as the children’s book that should be on holiday gifting lists!
But adults take note, Demo: The story of a Junkyard dog is for us too! It is a graphic novel with the power to speak to us as well. This is a touching story of a Pit Bull dog who only wants to be loved and ultimately saves the same people who rejected him. Jon Bozak’s writing powerfully speaks the Truth of a dog mislabeled and mistreated who still has the greatest capacity to love and forgive.
Scott Bruns’ artwork is spectacular! Demo is a work of art on both the literature and visual art levels. Seemingly simple yet stunningly emotive, the illustrations combine with the text to make Demo: the story of a Junkyard dog a book that will stay with you long after you close the glossy cover.

I feel priviledged to be one of the first 500 people who ordered the book and have it with Demo and John’s signatures! The day I got it – I sat right down and read it. I was surprised at how interesting the story is on many levels.
I love the story and I love the artwork. I am SO proud of everyone who had anything to do with this book. Go Pit Bull Terriers – with the hard work of people like Jon and Scott we will win back the love you deserve.
I also believe this book should be on every library shelf.
Honestly? This book is just plain terrific. I have given it as a gift to all of my nieces and nephews, and it’s pretty much on their Top 5 books of all time to read before bed. And yes, as the reviewer said… the parents love Demo, too! A thoroughly engaging story written with grace and pure heart (plus a bonafide interest in the Pit Bull cause). The artwork is stupendous… really, this book is a true gem!

I ordered it after seeing it reviewed on the Liberty Humane Society’s Pit Bull website http://baddogs.libertyhumane.org/ and was also lucky enough to get a pawtographed copy. It is indeed a classic for all ages, and I suggest buying it for yourself, your holiday list, and your local school. The expressions on Demo, especially as he finally finds a human who doesn’t reject him, are priceless.
I was also one of the first 500 to order the book. I LOVE it. I think it is the best thing to happen for the cause of pit bulls in a long time. Both the artwork and the story are fabulous.

I too was one of the first 500… the paw print and my girls name in the book is adorable! I read the book to my daughters the first night we got the book… hands down the best book!!!! They were thrilled with the entire story, loved the pictures and it warmed our hearts.
I was thrilled for your review because I feel the same way about Demo the junkyard dog. A great book that teaches an important lesson but is entertaining and captivating at the same time. An important book not just for APBT owners, but all dog lovers and for anyone who wants to teach their child about love, forgiveness and acceptance.
This story will help shape our dogs future. I think it will reach many children, and maybe even some parents. Its brings me hope, and I was so happy to read your review.
Thank you Demo for a wonderful book! I ordered and received 2 of these for my grandchildren and they love them! My oldest grandson, Dylan, read this book in it’s entirety two nights in a row. He then went to school and asked his 4th grade teacher if he could bring the book to school and share it with the class. His teacher agreed and Dylan brought it to school whereupon the teacher read the book to her entire 4th grade class. It is more than just a story about the injustices against Pit Bulls; it is about caring, trust, love, and accepting others and embracing differences. It is a story of goodness prevailing over evil while also telling the story of Pit Bulls and their lives while in our nation’s animal shelters. I, and my grandchildren, highly reccomend this book to anyone.
Demo the junkyard dog is fabulose for all ages I bought 3 copies one for my neice, one for my nephew and a copy for my husband and I… love, forgiveness and acceptance is the message in this book and the illistrations are amazing!! LONG LIVE THE PIT BULL BREED!! Christmas is right around the corner and Demo the junkyard dog is an excelent gift!!
Great book for kids. Teaches them many of lifes lessons in a easy reading and wonderfully illustrated book.Just ordered five for stocking stuffers.Hopefully there will be a series to follow!
This is a darling story about second chances and finding value in the otherwise disposable. It quickly became one of my coffee table books. The illustrations are fabulous (and funny…look for Frankenstein!) and the message is wonderful. For Christmas, I am buying the book for all the children (and children-at-heart) in my life.

I purchased two copies of his book and it was pawtographed which is neat. I plan on ordering a few more copies as gifts. The story sends a great message and the illustrations are awesome.
