Now let’s be honest; I’m probably never going to be one of those virtuous people who actually cook all their pets’ food. Heck, I rarely cook for me (generally due to lack of time and interest). But I still found Pet Food Nation interesting. I may never actually use the tasty recipes (and yes, some of these recipes sound good enough to share with your pets!) but I learned a lot about pet food in general.
Weiskopf has gathered together a wealth of information about the history of pet food and the origins of commercial pet foods. She also has small gulps of pet food information scattered throughout the book. And Pet Food Nation has information for those of us who buy commercial food. Weiskopf advises us on what vitamin and minerals supplements to add to this food to make our furfriends healthier.
Pet Food Nation is a fast read with lots of info. You’ll find yourself coming back again and again to lap up another tidbit of canine culinary or feline food advice.
This is a good book and is a must read for dog lovers. It provides good information on dog nutrition and the truth about commercial dog food. Many dog owners tend to feed their dogs commercial food as it is convenient, but it may not be in the best interest for their dogs.
