Whoopi What Are You Thinking??? — Whoopi Goldberg Defends Michael Vick
Whoopi, what are you thinking!?!?!?
First off, let me say that I think the world of Whoopi Goldberg. I admire her for her career and what she has accomplished in her life. I hoped that she would take the empty chair on the View. I loved her short-lived talk show (and I don’t generally like talk shows). Of all the people in the world I would love to interview, Whoopi has to be in top twenty. Have I impressed on you how highly I consider Ms. Goldberg?
Good, because now I’m going to get very harsh.
What the heck do you mean defending Vick by saying this is part of Southern culture?!?!? It is NOT part of Southern culture like bagels are part of NY culture or the beach is part of Southern CA culture. Dogfighting and cockfighting are done in the South by ignorant, racist trash (both white and black). I know because unlike you, Whoopi, I AM Southern. I was born in Alabama and spent most of my youth in Tennessee. I’ve seen much more of Georgia than the Atlanta airport.
I have traveled over vast areas of the South and in every Southern state. I have been at backwoods horse auctions and campgrounds you can only find with a guide. I love fried chicken, grits and fried okra. I’ve had close friends who were car racers, bull riders and hunters. If its in the South I’ve probably seen it, read it, eaten it or watched it. I am Southern for more generations than I can count. And I am deeply offended that anyone, much less a woman I consider a personal hero such as Whoopi Goldberg, would make a patently stupid and offensive comment that dogfighting is just part of the culture.
Is a Kitty Genovese-like murder (the young woman who was murdered in an alley and NO ONE responded or even called the police) part of NY culture? Are terrorist attacks on large buildings part of NY culture? Are Son of Sam like serial murders part of NY culture? Are Zodiac killers part of San Francisco culture? How about attacks on innocent individuals by mentally ill homeless people (an incident I personally witnessed) part of the Northern California culture? Of course not! But yet you in your ignorance want to say dogfighting (which is every bit as horrible as the events I mentioned) is part of Southern culture.
No, dogfighting belongs to useless, cruel people across the US and Canada. Southerners don’t own stupidity or evil behavior. Sure, there are many of these pieces of poop masquerading as humans in the South but I would bet you, Whoopi, that you have some of them living near you too. They are just as much your neighbors as they have been mine.
So, Whoopi, all that said, I’m going to ask you again — what were you thinking? Did you, like some of my African-American friends, think that animal protectors like me are only interested in bringing African-American offenders to justice? If so, think again. Protectors, like many Dogsters, have sought and gotten justice against people of all races. Did you think we were just picking on poor Michael? Nope, wrong again. I’d never even heard of him until the dogfighting charge broke. I would have been perfectly happy to go the rest of my life with never knowing his name.
Do you think dogfighting and similar cruel “entertainments” are of little concern to people trying to overcome racism, poor education and few good-paying jobs. Once again, think again. There are clear correlations between dogfighting and spousal abuse. Would you like to argue that we shouldn’t care about the roots of and the promulgation of violence against women and children? I’d like to hear you try but I suspect you’re too smart to take that side. Do you want to defend people of any color whose actions support violence? Then continue to defend Vick.
Vick is not an innocent victim. Vick is not a representative of Southern culture. Vick is a selfish, cruel man who thinks his pleasure is more important than the suffering of innocents, incuding dogs. He may or may not have “found Jesus.” That’s not my call to make. But I sure can tell you what the officials found on his property — lots and lots of tortured, dead dogs. Those are the irrefutable facts.
So Whoopi, please reconsider your support of this heartless murderer. Your support says one of two things about you; either you are hopelessly naive if you think he’s a victim or you are so amazingly prejudiced against Southerners and their culture that you would think this is acceptable. I think you’re not the former but I hope you’re not the latter.
If you want to speak to Dogsters and Catsters of all nationalities and races, drop me a line and we can talk. If you really want to defend Vick, you can start with us. We’re the ones who clean up after all the Vicks of this world. And we don’t look at race. A dog who has been tortured and murdered by a Caucasian suffers just as much as one who has been tortured by a Hispanic or African-American.
In the meantime, Whoopi, think again before you defend a man who is the opposite of everything your life has been and represented. You have always spoken for those who could not defend themselves against the cruel and remorseless. You have always stood for the empowerment of women and the protection of children. You have always been a shining light of hope and positive actions in a world where these things are all too rare. Michael Vick is none of these things. And in defending him, you tarnish your light and life.
Thanks to Yahoo TV for this article.
Goldberg defends Vick in `View’ debut
So much for the sedate alternative to Rosie O’Donnell on “The View.”
Whoopi Goldberg used her first day on the daytime chat show Tuesday to defend football star Michael Vick in his dogfighting case.
Goldberg said that “from where he comes from” in the South, dogfighting isn’t that unusual.“It’s like cockfighting in Puerto Rico,” she said. “There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.”
The Atlanta Falcons quarterback pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges last week, admitting that he provided money for a dogfighting ring that operated on his Virginia property and helped kill six or eight pit bulls. Vick grew up in Newport News, Va.
Goldberg was selected by series creator Barbara Walters to replace O’Donnell, whose stormy tenure on the ABC program lasted less than a year.
In the Vick discussion, Goldberg served notice that she won’t shy away from controversy.
Co-host Joy Behar looked horrified at Goldberg.
“How about dog torture and dog murdering?” Behar asked.
For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg replied, and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges.
“I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn’t appreciate,” she said.

[...] Our Dog Blogger, Joy Ward opens a serious can of whoopi ass on Whoopi which should get linked to far and wide. Barked by Ted Rheingold [...]
Amen, Joy! I’ve lived my entire life in the South, most of it in Arkansas. I have never met, spoken to or heard of anyone who has even been to a dogfight, much less had one on their premises. I have never even heard of any dogfights in this area. It’s certainly not our traditional Saturday night entertainment, as it seems Whoopi’s comments make it out to be.
I have, however, seen several episodes each of Animal Cops Detroit and Animal Precinct New York on Animal Planet where both dogfighting and cockfighting rings were raided. In fact, I stopped watching those two shows because that seemed to be all they did. If they weren’t breaking up dogfighting rings, they were rescuing pit bulls, rottweilers, etc. who’d been starved, neglected, abandoned and mistreated. Did I just miss all the episodes of Animal Cops Houston or Miami where this happened? I think not. I recall one or two episodes but not nearly as many as the New York and Detroit shows.
Most of the people I’ve met in our area have a few family pets; their dogs are all sorts of breeds. The ones that do have pits, rotts or other so-called “fighting” breeds are people that fight the against the stereotype of these dogs rather than perpetuating it.
Saying that dogfighting in the South isn’t that unusual is as offensive to me as someone assuming that everyone here eats fried chicken, grits and watermelon and has a lazy coonhound sprawled on the front porch next to a jug of moonshine.
I have to say I watched the view and I love animals but Whoopi WAS NOT defending VIck she was stating that where he is from that is common for dog fights as is eating cats in China. Now with that said there are different culcures and that is one that I don’t agree with and now that he knows it is not right he is willing to make amens .
two paws up Joy! I’m going to link you to my blog! Everyone should read your article!
Simba
Joy, Thanks for saying what needs to be said. I hope Whoopi does more research before speaking on this topic ever again.
hey Joy…….we are begging in this house please forward that on to the view….and sign with thousands on dogster agree!
Breed,
Thanks for barking in. I wouldn’t be as disappointed in Whoopi if she had openly defended him. But what she said is even worse. She excused Vick by saying that he just didn’t know better because everybody in the south does it.
So is everybody in Southern California a drug-running gangbanger? Is everyone in Utah a religious extremist with 10 wives? Does everyone in New York City mug everyone else? The answer to all of these questions is obviously “no.” So why is it okay to give Sick Ookie a pass with the bigoted suggestion that dogfighting is accepted in the South. No, it’s not and neither is torturing and murdering animals.
We DO NOT accept the eating of dogs in China or the Phillipines. We DO NOT accept the skinning alive of Chinese dogs to have their furs used on JCPenney coats. Why in anybody’s world would we accept the torture and murder of dogs and cats in our own backyard, North America?
I hope Vick has seen the wrong he’s done. I could wish for nothing better. I hope he wants to make amends. He can spend lots of hours and many dollars to do that. It would be wonderful for him to spend the rest of his life teaching young kids that they should love and respect animals. But, sceptic that I am, I have to see it to believe it. He doesn’t get a pass for simply saying “oops” and spending a few days at home.
As for Whoopi, I still respect her for all she’s done to help others. I just hope she learns that the voiceless dogs and cats need her compassion just as much as homeless humans.
Way to stereotype there, Whoopi!
Well said Joy.
Dog fighting exists here in Northern California.
There are pitties and rotties that I know of that were rescued after being used as dog bait.
This is a cruel sport that needs to be stopped.
Vick’s business did not operate alone. If he is remorseful as he claims he needs to provide testimony and evidence against all of the other operations. Black, white and any shade imbetween.
I hope Whoopi uses this opportunity to learn from this controversy.
“Deep South” southerner here! Born and raised in Tennessee! I nor anyone I know has ever been to or been involved in dog fighting! I too love Whoopi Goldberg, but I was taken aback by her remarks. To tell you how wrong she is, actually cock-fighting is more popular in the back-woods around here than dog-fighting and is ILLEGAL and fought vehemently by law enforcement and the public.
Vick was told as a young man this was wrong. He continued to do it as he grew older - even after he received a “college” education! He knew better but HE LIKES IT. Being from the deep south has absolutely nothing to do with it and he would still be doing it today if he wasn’t caught!
Come on Whoopi, there are no excuse for this one!
YOU GO GIRL!!!! AMEN to EVERYTHING You’ve stated here! MISTER BIG BUCKS GOT CAUGHT and I hope he gets the maximum sentence allowed by the law! Whoopie should be ashamed of herself for supporting an arrogent, ingnorant, dog hater! He has NO respect for living animals. He would STILL be fighting dogs, if he had not been caught! All those involved should be going to the pen. There is NO excuse for anyone fighting Dogs or Cocks! I seen it all the time living in Alabama. Working at the animal shelter we had 100’s and 100’s of pitbulls confiscated from Dog Fighting Rings, and cocks, too!! SAD!!! These are NOT normal people. They are heartless and incrediblely cruel beings (not human). Those same beings who brutalize innocent animals, are the same towards humans (I don’t care what anyone says). I believe they are the (closet) Jeffrey Dahmers of the world. Dear Whoopie, GET A CLUE!
I AM SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING MICHAEL DIDN’T KNOW IT WAS WRONG!
My A$$ he didn’t! That’s why it wasn’t a public sport here in VA!
What he was doing to those poor dogs was wrong and he was breaking one of the NFL’s biggest rules that doesn’t allow playing to ‘bet on sports’…..He knew exactly what he was doing!
Michael, Paris and all you other idiots in Hollywood, Jesus is NOT in jail! Why do they all come out claiming they ‘found’ Jesus? lol
I”m sorry, but I think you were too lenient on Whoopi! I have always admired her, but after hearing that she defended Vick, she has lost my respect and I will never buy, rent, go see, or watch any movie or TV show that she is on! I think that unless she stands up and says she was WRONG to defend Vick, that all Dogsters and Catsters should BOYCOTT HER!
Joy, your article was well written and to the point. Nice job. I too have always had a great fondness for Whoopi Goldberg but her choice of words were rather shocking.
I feel the only reason Micheal Vick ever apologized for his atrocious acts is because he was caught, plain and simple. You can best believe given the chance to do it again, and NOT get caught, he would!
It seems obvious to me he was raised, as many people are all over the country, with little regard for the life of animals (think of Mookey in Seattle). In my opinion, there’s no way he could have come around that quickly after the heinous crimes he had been committing for years against dogs, and most assuredly other animals as well.
Whoopi Goldberg is an entertainer and a slow learner. People who are celebrities and have money are not necessarily smart. She reminds me of Charlie Sheen who said 911 was fake and didn’t happen. These people don’t live in reality and border on stupid.
Well said, Joy. I think Wendy has a good idea in boycotting all of Ms. Godlberg’s projects, including “The View”. By her dismissal of this creep’s actions as cultural, she is basically condoning what he and his cohorts did. I’m not even sure an apology from her at this point would be sufficient. This entire blog, including all comments should be forwarded by all Dogsters and Catsters to (at the very least) four people: Ms. Goldberg, Vick, his sentencing judge, and Barbara Walters.
Joy, you spoke right out of my heart and the heart of “most” Europeans!
Thanks for your involvment!
Great comment. Agree completely. I live in Tidewater Virginia in a great small town. There is no dog-fighting here. Vick and his brother are a “bad seed” problem, not a Southern problem. It is too bad to see Whoopi used like this. Walters has bimbo Rosie on, bimbo makes idiotic comment (unscripted?), news jumps on it, ratings go up, bimbo “quits”, news jumps on it, ratings go up, Walters has bimbo Whoopi on, bimbo makes idiotic comment (unscripted?), news jumps on it, ratings go up………. Another throw-away bimbo. Whoopi deserves better than this.
Hi all, I emailed the View about Whoopi Goldberg’s comments and I encourage those of you who are as outraged as I am to write in as well.
Bravo Joy!!!
Your letter expresses how truly passionate many of us are about the disgusting cruel act of dog fighting. How to sterotype in any situation is an awful thing.
I for the life of me just don’t understand the ingnorant rants of these supporters for the Dog Killer aka Michael Vick.
I want nothing to do with these people and they will not see one dime of my hard earned money… I am keeping count and they are adding up… Stephon Marbury, Clinton Portis, Donvan McNabb, Jamie Foxx, & Whoopi Goldberg. Have I missed anyone???
Great entry Joy! I really hope that Whoopi sees this and makes a better informed statement. Vick’s statement of being finding Jesus doesn’t hold any water for me. It’s just a hook to garner some support that shouldn’t be provided. Puhleeze!!!
Gee Whoopi, when’s the light going to go off in your head?
Stator and Roxy’s Mom is right! Give it up saying Vick didn’t know it was wrong. Unless you are criminally insane, how could anyone not know torturing and killing any animal is wrong?
Hand in hand goes the “I made a mistake” plea. Give us a break! He killed and tortured numerous dogs, allowed the evidence to be buried on his property. It happened over and over. That …. is not a mistake.
He’s not sorry, he sorry he got caught.
Shame on Whoopi, Shame on the View for not making her apologize.
A lot of things are ‘cultural’–abuse of women, child sex slavery, racial discrimination, poverty, starvation–but I don’t think that qualifies as an excuse to allow them to go on. I’m sure Ms. Goldberg wouldn’t excuse my father for using the word his ‘culture’ taught him to use in regard to black people. Get a clue, Whoopi.
Slavery was part of Southern culture - and it was abolished. I hope the outrage that has happened since this story broke about Michael Vick will have the same results ( no war, please!) Torturing HELPLESS animals is unacceptable. And, you are all right - the only reason Michael Vick said he’s sorry is because he got caught and his attorney advised him things would go better for him if he were remorseful. Michael Vick has the best advocates money can buy, we have to be the advocates for the defenseless animals who are tortured into becoming viscious, fighting animals. And, Whoopi, I’m from Louisiana, where we were finally able to abolish cock fighting. Do you know what the attorney for the cock fighting owners said before a Senate Committee? “If you abolish this ’sport’ how will these people feed their families?” The cruel treatment of any animal for enjoyment is wrong - culture or not.
Trash supporting trash. The deed is so bad that it is indefensible. Yet people still think they should chime in to “clarify” Vick’s “mistake.” This was no mistake. There is no defense. This was a crime. Everyone, northern and southern has to accept it. There is no defense.
im from south arkansas and never would i stand by and watch a fight i love my pits and i would die to defend there life. i never met a dog i could not find a way to get along with, and i seen a few that were made in to monsters by worthless sub human idots his color and his state dont matter his blood bleeds red like the dogs he killed
I was born in Atlanta, raised in a small town in TN, I have lived in Charlotte, NC and currently reside in Knoxville. I have no clue why someone would think that dogfighting is part of “Southern Culture.” Grits and okra, definitely, but dogfighting? It is heartless and barbaric. I hope that no one else has that ignorant perception of the south or it’s inhabitants. Everyone is so quick to point a finger at “culture”, instead of taking responsibility for what they know is wrong. Mr. Vick, I certainly hope you have repented. As for Ms. Goldberg, perhaps she should spend more time in the real south, the one where we love and protect our animals, not murder them.
I am so tired of people trying to defend this jerk with the “race’ card and the “Culture” card— this is a bad man. It would not matter to me if he was purple with pink polka dots he behaved in a manner that can not be forgiven. And for those who say we are not as outraged when a human life is taken— Ray Carruth, we in Colorado were outraged and we are glad he is in prison for a very long time. Bad people are just bad people and this scum needs to pay for his actions.
Whoopsie is an ass! If she thinks Vick is such a great guy then they can both go to hell. Vick is nothing but trash and should be treated the same way he treated those poor dogs. Defending Vick is like defending slavery. There is no defense for either one.
Whoopi ….. open mouth remove left foot & stick in right foot.
yesterday on the show in her attempt to defend herself by saying she was misquoted ….that she did not condone Vicks actions says…… i love Peta. well ms goldberg …..maybe you better do some research before you take on topics you obviously know nothing about.
Awesome article Joy ….. keep up the good work.
4 Paws way up for this article! We agree she doesn’t live in the real world!
AMEN, Joy! Thank You for saying what needs to be said. I agree, that I’d have more respect if she had simply stated strong opinion, (which we are all entitled to whether we agree with each other or not) but the nonchalant cop out of “it’s just done in the South” ….is pure ignorance perpetuating pure ignorance!
Dog fighting is not a part of the Southern culture, nor the black culture. I even heard someone say that M. Vick grew up in the projects where it is part of the culture. Having known people who worked closely with housing authorities, I can tell you that I never once heard of a problem related to dog fighting. Just where do these uninformed people think that the people in the projects are keeping dangerous dogs? There certainly is not enough money in the projects areas to support this so-called sport. I think to refer to it in any of these ways is not just erronous, but an insult to all Southerners, blacks, and anyone of lesser means. I am from the South and it really offends me!
Thank you, thank you, thank you Joy!!! As an Alabama born and bred girl I am horrified with this stereotype Whoppie has tried to put on us. A good part of my family is from very rural Alabama and Georgia and we have never had dog fights nor heard of them in our areas. I do agree that it goes on, but that does not make it right.
As Ron White has said, Stupid ought to hurt!
Whoppi’s back peddling now, but whatever as a dog owner I find her remarks to be cold and thoughtless and if I were an American living in a southern state I’d want to stick my boot up her ass. But I’m Canadian so I want to stick my snowshoe up there!
Sorry Whoopi it’s out there you said it’s a southern thing, you can’t take it back now.
Way to go Whoopie! Your sunglasses have finally affected your sight as well as your mind! Staying within the scope of your comments that Dogfighting is a southern thing; perhaps we should bring back slavery and chain them up and have them fight each other for the amusement of plantation owners as it was just over 100 years ago. THAT was a southern thing too! What century are we in now? Get a new set of glasses dear! Dogs of every breed are sentient as are all races of people!
Great job on the article Joy! Everything was well written. Hopefully your article makes it’s way around the country. Including Whoopi’s desk and several times back to Barbara’s desk. Of course it would also be nice if the guilty party himself gets a chance to read what we all really think of him. Vick!! That would be YOU!!! Apology not accepted! I’m sure it wouldn’t be accepted by all the dead dogs buried in your backyard or the ones that might not ever be able to find new furever homes because they’re traumatized for life either.
Joy,
I think you missed the point of Whoopi’s statements. Because you live in the South and have never seen this, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It does exist and exists underground. We know that now.
And I actually watched the video of Whoopi’s statements and didn’t see it as her making “excuses” for Vick.
I know we all love our dogs and cannot understand why dog fighting exists at all. It is disgusting and unforgiveable. But please don’t let our feelings about these events stop discussions about its roots and how it might lead to changing this culture.
What is she thinking then again shes not she needs to be given a wake up call on her comment and she needs to see what the people are say about her and what she said someone send these to her let her know what she said is dead wrong
…And another thing. If Vick was white, It would be a little easier for you to let go of it. That’s what it all comes down to! Ya’ll can try to deny it all you want, but if that was Brett Favre, it would have been long forgotten about and there would have been a million one excuses for him. But I bet ya’ll are saying right now, “Brett wouldn’t do anything that stupid!” Why not? So to all you idiots up top talking about it has nothing to do with race: BULL! Ya’ll are talking about even boycotting all of Whoopi’s projects because she defended Vick! If anything, Michael Vick WAS dumb for not remembering this very thing: WHITE PEOPLE DON’T LET BLACK FOLKS GET AWAY WITH NOTHIN’! That’s the 1 thing he is guilty of! Not remembering that FACT!!
Thanks Cindy! I agree with you, especially after watching the segment with Whoopi. I must confess that after reading about Whoopi’s comments I was spitting mad, mad enough to watch it for myself. And then oops, it really was made to look worse than it was in the papers. I think that what Whoopi was trying to get at, and it WAS NOT defending M. Vick, was that Michael Vick doesn’t believe that what he did is (morally) wrong. I don’t think that he or any other dogfighter believes that dogfighting is morally wrong. How could they and still sleep at night? Sure they know it’s illegal, but being illegal doesn’t always equate with morality. These people do not think of dogs in the same terms that we do (as loving members of the family). It is unfortunate that we can go so involved with trying to topple anyone who speaks out about dogfighting in ways that are different than we might expect. Whoopi in no way said anything in support of Michael Vick or dogfighting, but that is how she has been branded by most of us and the media. What she said was important if we want to understand WHY some people are accepting of this lifestyle, so that we can figure out a way to change their minds. Really think about what she was saying, before screaming that she is a horrible person who should be boycotted (for supporting Michael Vick and dogfighting?!?) It just doesn’t make sense because that was not the case.
This is a very heated topic, as is almost any topic that involves ANY of the breeds loosely classifed as a “pit bull”, but I’m thinking rants and verbal explosions like TT’s do nothing to solve the real problem and only succeed in making people more angry and less informed. Saying all pitbulls are “evil” is like saying all Pomeranians are sweet and harmless, when in 2000 a family’s pet Pom killed their 6 week old daughter in San Francisco. It’s like saying all Catholics are for mass genocide, simply because Hitler came from a Catholic family. Then jumping to the racial issue of “black vs white” in an attempt to cement your argument? That only succeeds to perpetuating the stereotype and ignorance!
DOcean, your statistics are valid and from reputable sources, but they are almost a decade old! According to the American Canine Temperament Testing Association, 82.5%of the American Pit Bull Terriers that took the temperament test passed, compared to a 77% passing rate for all breeds on average, and that’s from 2006.
In Whoopi’s defense, she has formally apologized to groups like the Humane Society of the United States. I listened to her comments, and she didn’t directly condone Vick’s actions, nor did she say dogfighting was OK or that she supported the abuse and death of innocent animals. It was a stupid statement taken completely out of context. She’s an idiot… but she’s not a dog killer.
Pitbulls are not “friendly, cuddly, cute dogs”, by any means. They are a breed that must be handled and trained and kept under close supervision, due to their inherent strength and less than positive background. This is not a breed that should be owned by anyone, and is definitely a breed that should not be bred by most. That’s the real issue. The public’s lack of education about APBTs and their relatives, the public’s refusal to spay and neuter and their constant desire to have cute little puppies running around, only to discover that their cute little puppy does indeed turn into a very large dog that they can no longer control.
Dismissing the actions of Michael Vick purely on the fact that he may be a “black man held down by society”, or because “pitbulls are mean and vicious” is ignorant, not to mention irresponsible. Dog fighting is bet on with huge amounts of cash, which must be protected with large amounts of weapons, all of which are traveling through our communities. People like Vick are breeding dangerous animals and encouraging their instincts for killing. These dogs DO end up in our communities and in our shelters… but they didn’t ask to be there.
It’s up to us as responsible owners, advocates, and members of the community to educate each other and keep our animals safe and healthy. Dogs rely on us to make the decisions involving their lives. Let’s please try to make an informed and compassionate decision instead of jumping to extermination and hatred.
What do you expect. The show needs ratings and she tok over for that other nut job Rosie. So she has a big shell to fill and this is how she has to do it. She’s as nutty as Rosie and why does anyone with a real job a real problems worry about what an “actor” says. Remember in Shakespear’s time actings was a lowly position in society. It still is. These people have no clue about anything. They don’t live in the real world they make thier own worlds and think that it is real.
I am just upset when I heard that. BEING FROM SO AND SO DON’T MAKE IT OK TO KILL ANY DOGS! I just wish someone would knock some sense in her head!
I am truly saddened by all the “Vick” supporters.
Besides speaking out againt the words of Whoopi and Jamie Foxx (to name another), I believe I can no longer support their movies and career efforts. Just as we don’t support pet stores, I think we need not support the careers of those with such extreme opposing views where those views lead to such horrible cruelty to the dogs we love.
Great job, Joy, in expressing the views of so many!
TT, what about OJ? he got away with something….there now my statement is just as tacky as yours. Do you think there is a big cop conspiracy out there against black stars? Hell even if there were a conspiracy Micheal Vick is still guilty of murder.
If Brett did the same thing as Vick he’d already be convicted. Murder and torture has nothing to do with race.
TT, you are missing the big picture, this is about dogs being tortured and killed in an illegal sport. Is it okay to mutilate and torture animals because he’s black?
This is America not Iraq, race should not determine the validity of the crime. Stop looking at Vick’s color and judge him on his crime!
Trying hard not to make more comments.
TT wrote:
WHITE PEOPLE DON’T LET BLACK FOLKS GET AWAY WITH NOTHIN’! That’s the 1 thing he is guilty of! Not remembering that FACT!!
TT you are going to be a victim of color all your life if you don’t grow up and be an individual not a color.
Like I can stop.
TT by your reckoning we should forgive Mugabe for genocide because he’s black.
Thank you TT I now have a new understanding of how justice works, off to get a tan!
How in God’s name can anyone justify the murder of dogs? First of all only racist people would believe that the color of someone’s skin has anything to do with this! I won’t even justify that remark by TT. My own family is multicutural-stop using race as an excuse for people’s bad behavior. If you truly believe that you are justified in that statement….think about all of the white people who are murderers who white people also hate!!! Don’t place yourself in a category to sympathize with someone just because they share your skin color..I am sure there is more to you than that..at least I hope so!
Anyone who can electrocute, drown, or batter a dog with bare hands until the dog is dead is SICKER THAN SICK. I don’t care what color Vick is, or what job he has, or where he grew up. Yes, I hate dog fighting. But even more, I hate how Vick personally tormented to death the dogs who didn’t perform to his standards. Whoopi, think about it a little longer. You don’t really want to support this man or justify his actions in any way. If you had been in the room watching and listening while he bashed a dog against the wall until the dog was dead, would you still express support of him? If you had heard the dog screaming and watched it struggle and fight for its life, would you still express support? If you had seen that dog die violently by Vick’s hands, what would you think? Would you have tried to stop him? Or would you have been frightened by the crazy light in his eyes?
After reading all these articles about Whoopi Goldberg on Michael Vick, I can say that people are more interested in getting rid of Mrs Goldberg, than the fact that for what ever reason, dogs was hurt and killed, a person has lost his freedom, his income, and a lot of respect. I hate dog fighting and truly think that most people who fight dogs are bullies and cowards, and should be punished to the fullest, that Michael Vick will come out of this and help helpless animals by taking responsibility and bring awareness to this cruel and inhumane treatment.
Goldberg’s your “hero,” moderator?
You should be stripped of the right to host a web-forum.
