Rawlings Dumps Vick

Thanks to Bear’s furmom, Holly, for this update from USA Today.

Rawlings ends relationship with Michael Vick

ATLANTA (AP) — Rawlings Sports Goods Company said Tuesday that it was ending its relationship with Michael Vick because of the federal dogfighting conspiracy allegations against the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

“Rawlings recognizes that Mr. Vick has not been convicted of the charges stemming from his recent indictment,” the St. Louis company said. “However, we have determined that ending our relationship with Mr. Vick at this time is necessary.”

The action by Rawlings, which used Vick’s image in point-of-sale promotions in stores, is the latest commercial setback for the NFL star.

Last week, Nike suspended a lucrative contract with Vick and Reebok stopped sales of his No. 7 jersey. Upper Deck removed all Vick autographed memorabilia from its online store and said it was removing Vick trading cards from NFL sets to be released in October.

Vick is a horrible person. Everything that was done to those dogs should be done to him. Everything. How dare he act in such an arrogant, evil malicious way. I’m sickened and angered by his actions. Keep posting more comments about large companies “dropping” him. Every company/team/league/church/city block etc should drop him.

  2. Francesca Kinsey

Michael Vick is truly a disgrace. To have so much going for you and to throw it all away. He needs to lose everything. Those poor dogs deserve justice. I think though that his punishment shouldn’t be jail time or fines. He needs to donate time and lots and lots of money to his local animal shelter not to mention the ASPCA and the Humane Society. Also he should be forced to do community service where he can go into inner city neighbourhoods and educate people on how disgusting dog fighting is and how much you stand to lose if you get involved in it. Taking a little bit of money from a millionaire is useless. He needs to understand how tragic dogfighting is. Force him to get involved with Pit Bull rescues.

I wonder what will happen if he’s found not guilty? Will these companies issue an apology? Will these same people who thinks he’s so horrible recant? or will he have to try to live as a socially convicted person? ahhhh, sweet America!

  4. Rhon. Winston's Mom

You have to remember that he is under FEDERAL indictment, not local. The major newspapers have reported that Federal indictments have resulted in over a 94% proven conviction rate, so these charges are not brought lightly, and if you go by the odds, he has approximately less than a 6% chance he will NOT be convicted.

  5. Rogen's mom

I agree with Rhon. Winston’s Mom. I don’t think he’ll be found not guilty. Federal indictments don’t come easy. If the evidence wasn’t there to prove he is involved, there wouldn’t have been an indictment. Besides Tony Taylor, who was involved, has now pleaded guilty. He is helping the feds convict Vick. Stating that Vick financed the whole thing, among other things.

  6. Nate Dowg

It’s time people and their pets stand up against this cruelty!

  7. Fancy (Diesel Blue's Mom)

The Feds do not prosecute cases that aren’t solid. This isn’t the NC state case against the Duke Players. This is FEDERAL. The conviction rate in Federal cases out of Richmond is 98%.

As for the companies that have dropped him, don’t you think they have consulted their legal teams on this? Think about it, they are major players in EVERY market: Coca Cola, Airtran, Nike, Reebok, Rawlings, Don Russ, and UpperDeck… They have seen the indictment and know the score.

It is nothing personal, it is business.
