I was drawn to the web site list of available dogs-not sure why as I have no where to put another dog-and found what appears to be a pretty little Brittany boy listed as a hound. I have been in touch with ABR and they are going to check to see if he is a Britt and can get into the rescue with a foster. If he isn't a Britt they will try to determine a breed and notify the correct rescue. Maybe that will get at least one a shot at a good life. Too bad we can't help them all. I'm also emailing the other animal organizations that are big enough to possibly help. I looked at the Macon County shelter's website and was in disbelief at the number of dogs they have there, and am in complete awe at what the the volunteers there must be willing to do to maintain this many. I agree, it seems like spay/neuter laws are either not in effect in that state or not enforced. However, the problem is imminent now and spay/neuter options will only help future pet overpopulation. I wish I could fly out there and bring one home to California, but we already have 5 pets!
