20 Dead Great Danes and Remains of Other Dogs Found in Abandoned Pennsylvania House
Joy

Thanks to Patty Waibel for barking in this horrific story. Patty encourages anyone who knows anything about the murder of these Danes to come forward. The person who committed this crime should be severly punished!

If you know anyone who three to nine months ago suddenly stopped breeding and selling Great Danes in the Pennsylvania area, please call the authorities!

Please be warned that this is a very upsetting article.

Thanks to PressConnects.com for this article.

20 decomposing Great Danes found in Bradford home

BRADFORD, Pa. (AP) — A real estate agent stumbled onto two decomposing Great Dane carcasses behind a nailed-shut door and called authorities, who found the remains of more than 20 more dogs.

The home was empty but had been occupied until several months ago by a woman who bred Great Danes, authorities said. Police were searching for the woman, who has been cited in the past for neglecting dogs.

The real estate agent, Jack Buckles, had gone to the foreclosed home last week to estimate how much cleanup it needed before it could be sold. When he went to a small building at the back of the property, apparently a kennel, Buckles said he found the bodies of two dogs.

“They had no way of getting out because the door leading to the kennel was nailed shut,” Buckles told the Bradford Era.

Police were called to investigate. Armed with a search warrant and protective clothing and masks, they found 21 more carcasses, including bodies and bones of adult and younger dogs, on and near the property.

The dogs were estimated to have died three to nine months ago.

Thanks again for posting this. Perhaps someone in the Great Dane community will know who this person is. As I understand she was showing these dogs in 2004 & there must be some record of her & her dogs. I can’t imagine leaving these poor dogs like that! Patty

  2. Kymberlee

When whoever did this horrific thing is found, put them in a room with no food or water and nail the door shut!

  3. Sunni

I agree with Kymberlee. They should be punished the same way those poor danes were.

  4. Crystal

Patty is right, there has to be information on this woman. Perhaps some owners of the dogs she’s bred can give authorities info. This lunitic needs to be caught IMMEDIATELY before she harms more animals!!!!!!!!!

There is a thread about this in dog laws and legislation in the forums at:

    http://www.dogster.com/forums/Dog_Laws_and_Legislation/thread/418050

If anyone hears of updates on the case, please post there as well.

Since P&SB is our local paper, I’ll let you know if anything else turns up on pressconnects.com.

    Mocha Bear,

    Please do keep us updated.

My heart just weeps for those sweet babies going hungry and dying like that. WHAT is wrong with people??????

  9. NPPMWATCH

Little, if anything, will probably happen to this woman should she ever be caught. In Pennsylvania, the judicial system is known for its lax and practically meaningless penalties. Several large puppy mills have recently been issued unsatisfactory inspection reports yet they’re still operating. If you live in Pennsylvania, please write to your elected officials and encourage them to pass stricter cruelty laws, the new dog law regulations and to encourage the local judges and magistrates to STOP ISSUING SLAPS ON THE WRIST for animal cruelty cases!

Sad but true, nppmwatch is right. As a resident of Pa. it seems to me that its a never ending cycle. Does AKC ever issue complaints against breeders? They must know in certain cases that these “Breeders” are abusing the system? Or that complaints are mounting against a given breeder? I am not very familiar with AKC rules & regs. as all but one of my dogs are rescues. But once this woman is caught, & I’m sure she will be, will they allow her to register dogs again with AKC? I know it is really up to the court system to prosecute these cases but I can’t help but think that AKC could be very helpful.

I would say as animal advocates we all check our local papers and look for this person to re appear. She has to pop up! Even if you do not want a Great dane per say. Go as an interested party to check conditions.

  12. Joy

    Hilary,

Great idea! Just remember if you find her notto tip your hand or try to do anything yourself. Take mental notes and notify the local authorities.

  13. Diane

She was trying to make a fast buck on dogs that were unable to protect themselves and then when her personal life got to be too much, she got rid of them. An easy way out for her. Apparently giving no regard to the torture she inflicted on these poor animals.People like her deserve Hell. It’s very apparent she was a woman of no morals. A “BACK YARD bREEDER”! That’s why you should always use a reputable Breeder. Do your homework and research first! I would amagine this was the tip of the iceberg. She probably did this before.

In response to the comment about Backyard Breeders, I have to say, a “backyard breeder” is definitely the wrong definition for the woman in question. “Backyard breeders” are people who find a neighbor or friend who has an intact dog of the same breed as theirs and breeds the dogs for fun, to show their kids about the “circle of life”. Certainly these people are uneducated by choice, but I have to draw the line at calling them malicious. What the woman with these puppies should be termed as is the proprietor of a puppy mill. These dogs were obviously nothing but a form of income. Let’s not pretend she was just a silly woman breeding dogs in her backyard. She purposefully bred dogs for her own benefit and allowed them to starve to death when they no longer benefited her own well being. Regardless of what we “call” her, she should be jailed, in my opinion, if you could do it do a dog, you could do it to another human being as well. Our government should wise up and watch animal abusers, we all know what they are capable of and no one does anything about it.

people should be the ones registered as well as the animals and everyone should be made to present the animals to a formed auth at least every 6mths and if the animal passed on an official autopsy is to be presented

  17. Liz

This is a horrible story. That’s true. But please, the harrasment of the animal control center in the area needs to stop. The McKean County SPCA is made up of very dedicated animal lovers, most of whom are volunteers and operates on an unbelievably small budget. Stop calling their homes and start writing checks to help them out. Only a coward threatens the people who are trying to make a difference.

  18. Joy

    Liz,

Please tell us what has been happening.

And please tell us all how we can help, not hinder, this search for this woman.
