California Dogster Considering Move to Dubai Needs Information
Joy

Maria barked in this question for any Dubai Dogsters or Dogsters/Catsters with experience living in Dubai. If you can help, please bark in!

I am thinking for re-locating from San Francisco Calif to Dubai for work… I have an 11 year old 26 pound dog who means EVERYTHNG to me…. She is the only reason I am hesitating.

Here in California there are dog parks and trails everywhere, where you don’t have to have a leash. My dog is very healthy and active even though she is 11. How is it for dogs in Dubai, and if I live in an apartment where can she go poop etc.

Thank Anyone for information, she is the only reason I am hesitating coming to Dubai.
Thanks Maria

    Hi Maria:

You are well to research it. Dubai is a Muslim country and many Muslims consider dogs to be “unclean”. I don’t know about Dubai specifically, but you might consider Googling for info on Dubai to see if there is any information about that.

Dogs are no problem in Dubai though it would be difficult to keep one if you are living in an apertment, your might have to look for a house in one of the newly developed areas, many green areas where you can walk your dog and many other owners who keep dogs , not a problem at all.

    Hello Maria,

My husband is working in Dubai. At this moment I’m still living in the Netherlands (on the country) with our 2 year old shepherd. I just rerurned from Dubai this morning. And also thinking: will I do my dog a pleasure by taking her there?
I have seen people walking their dog, but didn’t have the opportunity to ask them. Like Ossama writes in the new areas you have many green, but if you can walk your dog without a leash I don’t know (and houses are expensive there).
So I will be keeping an eye on the reactions you get, maybe they will help me too.

    Regards,
    Yvonne.

    Hello Maria

I currently live in Dubai, my dog just arrived. Not every apartment accepts dog, the tenancy agreement will state so. Do note that not many neighbours are tolerant of them and their barking.

Because my tenancy did not allow pets in the building, I have to move to another apartment because of this.

However, I feel that this should not stop you from considering to do come, as there are many other apartments that do accept dogs, you just have to check around.

I am a Dubai, UAE citizen. I am 18 and I have a 14-month-old Golden Retriever. I am living perfectly with him. Yes, I am a Muslim & I am an Emarati, but I am love my Golden more than anything!!

You’ll find somewhere to make your dog poop. Like, a newspaper in your apartment or somewhere on the road; which you eventually take a plastic bag or an other item which will help you pick up the poop and clean that dirtied area.

Anyways, don’t worry you’ll have a great life as long as your dog either has an external airconditioned dog home or lives with you indoor (airconditioned).

Unfortunately, we do not have dog barks. On the other hand, Dubailand are building some animal world thing and it will have a dog park! Also, you can contact PawsTraining.com here they have good activities for dogs. As soon as you come to Dubai and go to the vet, trust me, you’ll feel great. I go to Jumeirah Veterinary. You’ll find dog Ads there.

Oh ya.. You also need the new Municipality rule, the Municipality Dog tag ID # that is places on the Dog Collar.

    Hi Maria!

I myself had a Shih tsu here in Dubai. There are apartments that do not allow dogs as Hamad is pointing out.

    Do check first:
    1. on the apartment
    2. would need some importation permits from here to be able to take in your dog (must be 4 months old or more).
    3. he’ll be needing a dubai tag and microchip once he’s here (he must wear the tag at all times outside)
    4. we could see pets in the Dubai Marina area
    5. they say in Jebel Ali beach, pets are allowed
    6. some see dogs at Jumeirah beach
    7. they say corniche area is ok for a run
    8. take note of the weather here.. now it’s quite hot to be taking dogs out – must be in the house
    9. here in Dubai parks, dogs are not allowed..

Me myself is finding more places for my dog to have a run too for exercise.

Do JBR accept dogs? – I have been told there are dogs there but I cant find any information anywhere which confirms I will be able to bring my dog when I relocate. The lady at JBR was not very sure either? The landlord of the apartment I was hoping to rent is happy for my dog to live there – but I do not want to commit my money and find there is a problem.

I just relocated to Dubai this Oct 07 with a 60lb Rhodesian Ridge Back. For his sake I took a villa with other people to share for the space and the company. Unfortunatley the sharing didn’t work out because the people were bad and we’ve relocated to share a huge flat in JBR which I find does not allow dogs. I have received notice from JBR that the dog is not permitted and we will soon relocate again probably rent a 3BR villa in Springs which is a well planted community. I will be smart to rent under my own name and select the roommates to share with. Living alone in Dubai is expensive. A low end 1BR flat is around 95,000 AED per annum and good luck finding one to allow a dog in. Come with a good amount of money to secure your own villa for yourself and your dog is my suggestion. Since the Spring area is just now complete and has many units available on the market the rent is more negotiable and it is possible with some landlords to pay in 2 checks. It’s going to be very hot 6 months out of the yr so it’s better to have the garden that the dog can go out into and releive himself than to have to go together out for long sweaty walks in the stiffling heat. All the best! :)

  16. Karina

Hi, I’m Karina and I have a 4 1/2 year old golden retriever and moving to Dubai next month. It would be a help if anybody can suggest where to take my dog for a walk, I will live in Bur Dubai area.
We have a nice house in England and move to a flat there with a balcony. Our dog will have to get used to having a wee in a sort of cat litter in a balcony.
Any comments, I will appreciate please.
    Thanks.

  17. Bernard

    Karina,
We live in Dubai with a 2 year old Golden. I’m afraid Bur Dubai is not the best place for a dog. The apartment is fine, but it’s a crowded downtown area where even going on walks might be a problem. We live on the Palm and have a lot of green areas where we can let him run around.
To anyone considering moving to JBR, DON’T! They just banned all pets and have mandated that people get rid of their pets within 30 days. See this article : http://www.7days.ae/showstory.php?id=74236

I hope this was helpful. Also make sure you have all the required documentation and permits before you bring in your pet.

  18. sam

Do they allow dogs on the Palm if you rent?

  19. Melina Singh

    Hi

I relocated to Dubai a month back along with my litte mongrel to join my husband. Unfortunately, his building does not permit pets and for the time being my sister has accommodated our little one and I shuffle between both houses. We are currently on the lookout for a flat/villa within budget to accommodate our little one. If there are any dog lovers out there with their own pets and facing the same problem that we do, would you give some thought to sharing a large apartment or villa with us? I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

    Thanks – Melina
