Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney Transported Irish Setter Seamus on Roof of Car For Twelve Hours
Joy

MittRomney.jpg

What the heck was Romney thinking????? Would he have packed his child into a box and strapped it onto the top of the car to ride for twelve hours?

I guess Seamus was lucky that Romney didn’t think he should have simply tied him to the car so he could get some exercise on the way…

I think I can safely go on record at this point as NOT supporting Romney for President.

Thanks to Mila’s Human for barking in this revealing set of articles.

Thanks to Boston.com for the original article in which Romney tried to show his crisis management skills by not freaking out when the Irish Setter who had been riding on top of the car in a crate for twelve hours had diarrhea.

Journeys of a shared life
Raising sons, rising expectations bring unexpected turns

By Neil Swidey and Stephanie Ebbert, Globe Staff | June 27, 2007

The white Chevy station wagon with the wood paneling was overstuffed with suitcases, supplies, and sons when Mitt Romney climbed behind the wheel to begin the annual 12-hour family trek from Boston to Ontario.

As with most ventures in his life, he had left little to chance, mapping out the route and planning each stop. The destination for this journey in the summer of 1983 was his parents’ cottage on the Canadian shores of Lake Huron. Romney would be returning to the place of his most cherished childhood memories.

Motorized Bubble Mouse Toy for Cats
Joy

BubbleMouse.jpg

Many of my friends with cats are always asking me to be on the lookout for new toys that will entertain their cat babies. I have found one I bet the cats will love!

QVC.com has the Motorized Bubble Mouse that you can turn on and leave to roll around the house. It is stuffed with catnip and you use it inside the plastic bubble so it rolls around or you can take it out of the bubble and let the battery-operated mouse trundle across the floor. How cool! I hope my sister-in-law’s cats don’t read this because I may just have to get them one for the Holidays!

Here’s what the QVC.com site says about the Motorized Bubble Mouse:

Dogs Adept at Reading Human Faces, Give Clues to Human Development
Joy

This article from National Geographic is a few years old but still has some interesting information.

How Did Dogs Become Adept at Playing to Humans?
Brian Handwerk
for Ultimate Explorer

February 6, 2004

Dog lovers know that man’s best friend has an uncanny ability to understand and react to human actions. Clues to how dogs came to develop this ability lie somewhere in their evolutionary past, and learning the answer could shine light on our own development as humans.

Harvard Anthropologist Brian Hare’s journey into canine cognition began with a study of human development. “I was interested in how humans develop cognitive skills,’ he told National Geographic News.. “What is it that allows us read social cues and understand communicative gestures?”

Tips From the Pet Poison HELPLINE — Pseudoephedrine and Phenylephrine
Joy

Pet Poison Helpline logo.jpg

We all want to keep our furbabies safe and healthy. Dogster Kristy Sweetland, furmom to Seva and Finlay, will be providing weekly tips and warnings from the Pet Poison HELPLINE™ to make that job easier. As a veterinary technician with the Pet Poison HELPLINE™ she’s going to help us all stay more on top of what’s dangerous for our furry family members.

Pseudoephedrine / Phenylephrine

It’s the time of year when some of us unfortunate enough to suffer from allergies begin using our allergy medications. These medications generally contain antihistamines, and some combination formulas might also include decongestants. While the antihistamine component is relatively harmless, decongestants such as pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine are poorly tolerated by dogs and cats. Very small quantities can seriously harm them.
