Hi everyone,
Please review the online petition to oppose the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to rebuild and operate a puppy mill business in Southwestern Virginia. In March, Mr Ivan Schmucker, Sr. allowed his clandestine puppy mill operation (unknown to county residents) to burn to the ground killing all 192 dogs and puppies. The farm does not have electricity or running water on the property. The applicant did not have the required CUP to run a puppy mill on his property zoned Agricultural. He still has 100 + breeding dogs on his property in outside cages. He has applied for a CUP and it will be voted on by the Board of Supervisors in June. If you are in Virginia and can make the Board of Supervisors meetings in May and June, please do so to show your support and opposition. We have enough unwanted puppies in our shelters!
We’re going to post this to our blog to help get the word out! There are enough abused, neglected and cruelly treated dogs out there without adding to them by any kind of support of yet another puppy mill!!

I would think you have more important things to do than to crucify a breeder who cared for his animals , took them to the vet, fed and watered them. I do not condone puppy mills, but there are a lot of people who let their dogs breed over and over, dumping pups and sometimes the moms on the sides of roads to fend for themselves. Why , if you want to do something about the problems, don’t you offer more assistance to help pet owners spay and neuter? How many pets could have been fixed for all the money used to try and put Ivan Schmucker out of business?? Why don’t you go after these people?? To me the pet owner who dumps animals off so they don’t have to deal with them is 1000 times worse than anything Mr. Schmucker may have done.
