I am so sorry for your furbaby's problems.

Please check the Dogster section where you can ask questions. Also, you can ask Dr. Barchas, our new vet blog.

I was shocked to read "The right combination is shown to cause autoimmune dieases." Could you tell me where I can find a source that supports this so that I can at least discuss it with my vet?
My dog ingested the melamine-tainted dog food and was soon after diagnosed with immune-mediated polyarthritis, which I was told was NOT the result of eating the dog food. Now I know this might be a possibilty.
She was healthy until she switched to a new dog food that ended up being contaminated with melamine. Within a few weeks she couldn't walk and had to start on cortisone and prednisone. I was told by 2 vets that kidney damage was the only symptom of melamine poisoning. Now, nearly a year later, she's being hospitalized at an internal medicine vet because she has other autoimmune problems that may be affecting her organs.
Could someone advise if the melamine may have caused all of these problems she's having now?

The fact that melamine is passed with urine is no great comfort: so is Vitamin C, simple sugar, salt, and lots of other things. I wonder how much hard science has been done with longitudinal studies looking at possible accumulation of melamine over time in fat cells, bone, liver, brain cells, etc.

It's an absolute shame and crime how they put the interests of greed and advantage above the health of the people. The FDA, USDA have no idea whatsoever the long term effects of melamine.
