I know Memorial Day has passed but I just have to tell you about this excellent site! Vietnam War Dogs is a celebration of the valiant dogs who worked alongside their humans in the Vietnam War. It’s also a great reminder that we as a society seem to have forgotten them and their sacrifices on humans’ behalf.
If you’re looking for information on dogs in war or just want to see photos I don’t think you’ll see elsewhere, check out Vietnam War Dogs.
Here’s what the site says about its mission:

Guide dog program offers inmates, dogs a second chance
By Carol Cole
THE NORMAN TRANSCRIPT (NORMAN, Okla.)
NORMAN, Okla. —
It was an icy day in late January, a Wednesday, when Janet Carpenter first met “Boots.”
Carpenter called it “love at first sight” for the slender black Labrador mix.
Boots had been selected for the Friends for Folks training program at the Lexington Correctional Center and the blind Norman woman had recently realized that her beloved fourth guide dog “Flute” would not be around much longer.

I still think this is sick. And the fact that Yoko felt the need to get involved??? What would John have done? I doubt he would have munched down with them in roasted dog. Get naked? Sure! Get hungry for man’s best friend? Not likely! This keeps up I’m going to have to add a category for “Weird Dog News.”
And does anyone actually pay this guy to get gustatorial in public???
This article is from World News Australia.
Man eats dog with Yoko
A British artist has proven to be a man of his word after he followed through on his pledge to eat a corgi dog in support of a fox that was allegedly killed.
Mark McGowan says that a hunting group, which included the Queen’s husband Prince Phillip, allegedly killed a fox earlier this year.

My heart is with Claggett. The way we treated these canine heroes is scandalous and a black mark on all of us! If anyone knows of a petition we can all sign to support this memorial, please bark in!

Congress is considering legislation that would create a privately funded memorial to dogs that have served with the U.S. military.

Garage sale raises Rs 25,000 for stray dogs
Welfare of Stray Dogs puts up a sale of household items, aims to sterilise 40 canines
Nitya Kaushik
Mumbai, May 28: A one-year-old washing machine. An electronic oven. A massive old-style candle stand. Cassettes and LP disks. It is difficult to figure out a connection between these household items and stray dogs. But a garage sale of these disparate items, organised by the NGO Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD), has managed to raise nearly Rs 25,000.

What a sorry state of affairs in Cookeville, Tennessee! This guy shoots dogs just because he is “mad” and gets off with what amounts to not much of any sort of fine or punishment. Granted, he gave up all rights to the dogs he shot (wow, that’s a no brainer) but what else happened to mister-I-have-no-ability-to-control-my-anger? 24 hours of community service, a little fine and oh, he can’t have dogs for a year! Oh yeah, that’s a deterrant! That really sends a strong message to impressionable youth!
Is there any question as to why these kind of areas where dogs are given less consideration than a fifteen-year-old car are the worst for dog fighting rings! And I can say that having grown up in Tennessee. If we want a truly better world we have to let misbegotten miscreants like this one know that he has gone way over the line. How about a ban on him EVER having another animal in his possession? How about making him pay EVERY penny of what it cost to heal these dogs, including boarding costs at standard rates for every day they have to stay in the shelter? How about some SERIOUS community service time spent say at the shelter cleaning out kennels?
And what about the judge? Why is he being so lenient? Does he, like some footbal players, feel that what a man does in his own home with his own dogs is nobody’s business?

If you live in or around Tukwila, Washington you could be the person who reunites Dogster Cheyenne with her loving and greatly distressed fur family!
Cheyenne has been missing for about two months. As soon as I found out I wanted to share her picture and this info with you so we can all be looking for her. Please pass this information on to as many groups as possible. It sounds like she may have been picked up by a well meaning person trying to help out a lost dog.
Here’s the story from her Dogster page:
CHEYENNE IS MISSING _ PLEASE READ! SINCE APRIL 7th 2007. $1000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO HER RETURN. Cheyenne has always been shy and submissive - hence the name Cheyenne - we call her Shy-Shy or Shy-Girl. - However once she gets to know you she is all love and so sweet and such a love.
She was 3rd of the 3 dogs we (my husband and I ) have had for the last 1o years. We have just recently lost our 10yr old Rotti “Duke” to cancer - and about a week and a half later we took Cheyenne and Star - (Star is our 5 yr old female Rotti/Border Collie mix) to the groomers Love & Care Pet Salon- on Saturday April 7th in Tukwila, Wa. 98168 We got a call a couple hours later telling us COME QUICK - your dog just jumped out the window and we can’t catch her!…..WHAT! OMG! We drove up there as fast as we could and looked and drove and walked and called frantically until dark. We have been searching everyday and night since.
