I have written a letter to Menu Foods; if anyone cares to read it it is posted in my cats diary his name is ♥Diogi♥ his Catster ID is 324529. I too have many concerns regarding this recall including the fact that when they expanded the recall to November they also expanded the “varieties” to include some that were previously “safe” to use their term. Also at work this evening I was talking to an aquaintance I rarely see anymore. He is from Thailand & has more cats that he’s rescued & never even attempted to find homes for than many rescue shelters. He has company from Thailand & they mentioned that all of a sudden pets over there are developing cancer, most of which is in the stomach or intestines. Does anyone know if the toxins they are finding in our pets foods can cause cancer? Or has anyone heard of anything that can or any other recent cancer outbreaks? Pleas let me know thanks

My dog Fleckel ate one of the recalled Nutro brands, alternated with other, more organic foods and supplemented with cooked chicken and lamb. Last fall he died inexplicably on October 14, with symptoms matching those of other sick dogs. Blood work and ultrasounds and, later, a necropsy could not explain why he died. His liver enzymes were unusually elevated, but apparently not high enough to explain his symptoms or sudden death. He was around 13 and had been through radiation treatment three years back for a soft tissue cancer (but nonmetastatic) that kept returning in his leg, and also had some lameness in his back end from prior abuse, but he still loved life and all his organs were in good shape before he got sick and died, suddenly and unexpectedly. What killed him was a mystery I am still trying to solve. He stopped walking, and had vomitting and diarrhea. After briefly seeming to get better, the symptoms returned and he became increasingly lethargic, and a sore appeared on his side a couple days before he died. The previous November (2005) he had similar symptoms but pulled through, and I realize now that this was after I had introduced Nutro into his diet. He was very sensitive to toxins/pesticides, but was not exposed to any in his environment. I never used flea or tick shampoos on him. My other dog did not get sick, but he was not as sensitive to toxins, and also frequently refuses his food, forcing me to throw out sometimes several meals in a row. Before Fleckel became seriously ill, he was on prednisone for what we thought were skin allergies, and being extra hungry, on two occasions ate the food my other dog refused, so maybe he got a double dose, if that food was toxic. When I heard about the recall this March, I checked the can numbers that I’d been feeding my surviving dog, and realized that they were among the recalled cans. My other dog did not get sick, but had been refusing a lot of his food, and as I explained above, I did not feed him Nutro exclusively. Because Fleckel’s appetite was better, and because he was sensitive to chemicals, and because I have no other explanation for his death, I am inclined to suspect, along with other pet owners, that the toxins in the pet food were there before November 8th 2006, and that this is what might have killed my dog. If I can, I will send his saved tissues to Iowa State for further analysis. Hoping for answers, truth and justice, for Fleckel, and for all!

Our dog died of unknown circumstances about a month ago, before the recall.She had all the symptoms of renal failure. We do have a small sample of her food (Iams Dry weight control) that we’re going to get tested at some point. If we would’ve known that they were going to be a major problem with menu foods, we would’ve done a autopsy. I have since taken all my pets off any Iams or similiar brands. I have them on Merrick. I’m sure that more foods will be posted on the recall list, but if you’re not sure, I’d take them off immediately.
Just want to prevent another pet death.

I want to say to everyone concerned, that my dog, Connie, 11 years old, black lab- chow mix, became ill October 14th,2006, after eating a packet of Purina Mighty Dog Turkey Dinner and Gravy. Over twelve hours time she rejected her food, was vomiting violently, became listless, and was completly immobile when we took her to an Emergency Vet Center three days later where we had to put her down, when her systems began shutting down.

I have the food packets, her blood work from two vets, and reported my concern to The FDA, but they were not concerned in that the product codes did not match the 2007 , March recall dates.

My feeling is tainted Pet Food was distributed , and consumed by our pets much earlir than the ‘official’ recall date in March, 2007.

You know what, my cat got sick, really sick during christmas of 2005 and I took him to the vet. He was almost dead and the vet never could figure out what was wrong. My cat got better, then a few months later the same thing happened again and he got sick. I took him back to the vet and the vet never figured out what was wrong, just that he was bleeding from his bottom. At the time, I thought maybe he had gotten sick from using Advantage Flea medicine that I got from the vet. Now, I think back and realize that both times he got sick we had bought some of the pouch Special Kitty that has been recalled. Now I can’t help but wonder if that was what made him sick.

We also lost our beautiful 14 year old Damation , Sheba. the end of may after a check up the month before stating everythiing was fine. we had switched her dry dog food to one of the listed brands for older dogs. We had her put to sleep after watching her suffer for 3 days and the vet could not figure out what the cause of the kidney failure came from

Kelly died last yr too. She died in May after having a physical 2 weeks prior and was healthy. The vet did not know why her kidneys failed and thought because she was drinking so much water and throwing up she had addison’s disease. They said they were not sure and I think if she had addison’s it would have shown up at the physical..thats what the vet thought too…she was very healthy and within 2 weeks, she was dead. I think the dog food companies knew about this a LONG time ago and did nothing about it. They figured it was just dogs or cats….well it was alot to us and KELLY was too special to die like that along with all the others. I have all her test results and they are just like the ones that have died recently.

Here in Spain, I lost a fairly young (5 year old) cat, back in November to renal failure. I do think he was the “runt of the litter”, but he did go fast. Now, I can’t even remember what he ate at that time, or who made it, but it really stops looking like a “pure coincidence” when these dates get pushed back and some of the recalls have extended to Europe. Does anyone have a list (or source) of the products recalled in Europe and, does anyone have any idea who I should report this to?

My dog suddenly threw up, urinated and died within 2 hours
in December.
She was just at the vet and was healthy
She was 10 and acted like a 2 year old
She had Nuto dry dog food
I am ultimately shocked and don’t believe what I saw that day
