yes, someone needs to wake up. Because of the zero quality standards in pet food my dog has been close to death. What I'd like to know is what cretin decided that importing food ingredients form foreign, disease cultivating countries was a good idea. And actually that's not the worst part, I did a little reasearch to find out what else is in the food that I feed my children (pets) every day. I was disgusted to find that not only are the so called quality standards for importing food pathetic, but the small pet food companies are actually owned by multi-billion dollar conglomerants (that we all have known and trusted for years) allow a certain percentage of carcinogenic chemicals in the pet food. And if that wasn't bad enough they are so cheap that (which by law is allowed) they put a percentage of euthanized animals, fecal matter and road kill, that has been rendered in the body bag, flea collars and other accessories. PURPOSEFULLY,INTENTIONALLY, and KNOWINGLY. Isn't that animal abuse!?
In my definition a dog is on so many levels no different than adopting a baby that speaks a foreign language, or cannot speak.
THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE.

Thank you Senator Durbin! I'm glad he's starting this investigation...hopfully it will show the weak links and prevent something like this happening again.

We have just come through a nightmare. Our dog started vomiting with pure water diarrhea which then turned to pure
blood in stool and vomit. Vet gave her two days of I.V. treatments. Now she is on Flagl and Reglan. She is slowly recovering and eating boiled chicken and white rice that "I" fix.
I threw out all of my Innova dry dog food. And I am switching her to Canidae. My cats eat Felidae and have had no problems or illness. I was not happy reading that Natura used Menu Foods processing. Once I read that, I did not believe anymore
of their video. My kids are grown. My dog may be a mutt to some but she is our baby. I am glad I acted fast. Because she might not have made it otherwise.

I would like to make sure that the Senator is aware of the closing of many of the FDA labs and the impact that would have on any inspections and analysis required.

Pet owners/lovers spend 35+ billion dollars a year on their "fur babies". As a result of the "Recall a Day" a lot of those dollars are going to buying "human food", not pet food. Some serious oversight in the pet food industry will be needed to get those dollars back. I'm sure that a lot of the affected manufacturers have and will continue to see a sharp decline in sales, but I'm sure the local meat markets and human grade pet food manufacturers are thrilled!!!

The one good that has come out of this tragedy is that I and thousands like me will now closely examine the list of ingredients in everything my dog eats, just like I do for myself. I will also research the manufacturing processes and origin of the raw products going into the foods. If a manufacturer can't answer those questions for me, I'll find one that will, because they are out there!

Sincerely,
Sylvia Teague

Sincerely,
