Many of you have been barking in to ask about specific recalled products. I’ve been trying to get each recall on the blog as quickly as possible but its impossible for even me to remember everything that has been recalled. So here is an excellent recap from The Post Chronicle.
Please note that this list is only current as of April 4th.
Here’s one of the best summaries I’ve seen of the recent recall debacle.

April 2, 2007
An additional pet food company announced a nationwide recall of dog, cat and ferret pet food treats that might be contaminated with salmonella. This announcement is completely unrelated to the vast recall of melamine-tainted dog and cat food that led to kidney failure in many pets around the country.
Eight in One Inc., a division of United Pet Group Inc., is recalling all packages of Dingo Chick’N Jerky, Dingo Kitty Chicken Jerky and Dingo Ferret Chicken Jerky. The treats are currently sold around the nation at Target, PetSmart and other stores.
Eight in One is asking consumers to throw away unused portions the treats. To obtain a refund, consumers can simply call 888-232-9889.
April 3, 2007
The pet food recall had sparked concerns over whether or not any of the contaminated wheat gluten had made it into human food. The Chinese wheat gluten imported by ChemNutra Inc. went to companies that make pet foods only, Stephen Miller, chief executive officer of the Las Vegas company, told The Associated Press.
April 4, 2007
In its first official statement regarding the Menu Foods pet food recall of cat and dog food, apparently poisoned by tainted wheat gluten purchased from a Chinese firm, Chinese officials are denying blame.
Also, the recent rash of pet food recalls has prompted some dog and cat pet owners to forsake wet and dry food & create their own pet food. Which is not advised.
####
All of the products listed above contain wheat gluten, which may contain melamine. Consumers should stop using affected products immediately! We can not reintegrate enough the importance of seeking immediate medical care for your pet if they exhibit any of the following symptoms…loss of appetite, lethargy and/or vomiting. These symptoms may be signs of kidney / renal illness, which may be fatal.
Although we hope that this listing will end the need to report on further recalls, rest assured that The Post Chronicle will keep on top of this issue and bring you timely future developments, should they occur.
Consumers may also visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website for additional information at the FDA Web Site.

Thanks for barking that in! The Pet Connection site has done a fabulous job of pulling together a lot of information on the recall!
Big barks to the crew at the Pet Connection!
For the Rosie O’Donnell’s of this sad country – My Mommie have something to say about this:
“First I want to thank Mackie for surviving. I had no idea what was going on when he was sick. What’s going to happen is the outrage will grow. And we’ll hear more Rosie O’Donnell’s about how we’re more concerned about a darn cat or dog than our sons and daughters in Iraq.
I am a person who has earned the right to say something about that. When Rosie was comfortable in her little house wherever, I – Mackie’s Mommie – was front and center at Ground Zero.
I want to say as a civilian who got thrust into war one day, that the only way all of us, including the big, strong wailing men got through those first horrific days of 9/11 was due to the animals on site.
That’s right, the dogs and cats.
The rescue dogs there threw themselves into their work and literally died for us. Not a single rescue dog is alive, and their deaths due to toxic contamination have been covered up. Even their autopsies were sealed. Some rescue dogs were so overcome at the extent of the devastation and loss one literally lay down and died a short while later – his owner stated – of a broken heart.
When they were brought to my triage unit for first aid and rest , they licked my hands and we hugged. I could barely look into their eyes they were so “wounded”. “What have you humans gone and done now, oh, oh, oh” they seemed to say, and then, “wag wag wag, never mind let me help you.”
The only live rescues we got out those first days were people’s cats and dogs from Battery Park City, and they were all in shock and toxic shock at that. But they were something to care for, and they reminded us with their fragility and unconditional love – they reminded us what we humans were here for, a stretch goals of what we are supposed to be to each other.
If we humans could only have half a heart as those rescue dogs, or half the sweetness of those terrified kitties, we wouldn’t have wars.
And then, Rosie O’Donnell need not get up on her stricture pulpit to scold our demonstrations of unconditional love for our pets as a shameful act during her President’s wars.
You can and must love and honor every sentient life. We are here to learn how to do that and the cats and dogs can serve as helpful guides back to that Garden of Eden.
Ms. Rosie needs to understand it’s not one or the other, that thinking is as Hegelian as the Skull and Bones.
Thank God, some of us have the heart to do both. So sad she doesn’t.
Thank you Mackie for letting me have my say.”
With the recent recalls on dog and cat food it is hard to find a food that you do not have to worry about feeding your dogs and cats. However, there are some brands out there that do not buy from the same food source as the ones recalled. Flint River Ranch (www.ppp-frr.com) offers all natural, all human grade dog and cat foods. This means that they must meet the FDA requirements for food that is acceptable to put on the shelves for humans to eat, which is a harder screening process than most dog and cat food companies go through, which leads to a food that is safe for your pets! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me (orderfrr@gmail.com) or visit the Flint River Ranch website (www.ppp-frr.com).
I wrote a letter to the corporation that runs our local supermarket asking why these recalled foods are still on the shelves. Do you think that they’ve gone and checked every can and pouch they have there to make sure that none of the contaminated lots are still on the shelves???
Mary,
You’ve done what we all should do — bark at the large corporation and local stores that make and carry these products! We must tell them that we ARE watching them and bringing them to task for their sins!
One point for the local stores — they often depend on the sales representatives to tell them about food problems.
I shop at a great small pet store where the owner and his daughter do an excellent job of finding out about the foods they sell and only selling ones they can recommend to their customers. I realized just how bad this whole recall could be when I walked in the 2nd or 3rd day after the recall began and asked them about one of the brands I knew they carried and that had been recalled. They had heard nothing about it from their rep.
The store owners snatched the food off the shelves immediately and then called their reps. As best I can tell they still had not gotten a call back from the food rep several days later.
My point is that some of the stores may not have gotten the news in a timely fashion from the very people they depend upon. Of course, any store with the recalled lots still on the shelves should be soundly criticized.
I created a message board for those concerned with the Pet Food Recall & needing information on it. There is a healing circle to share your stories, and place to share updates and legal information, and a place to share advice and care.
Even if you don’t think you need the message board, please pass on the link:

I had to euthanize my dog because of renal failure. It was sudden and had all the symptons detailed in recent news reports. We fed her dry dog food of Wal mart brand. I still have the dog food. Is there anywhere I can send a sample to be analyized without a high cost? I would really like to know if the food was the catalyst.
Thanks,
You do not have ALPO on the list. They posted their recall on March 31.
My beagle Penny and my keeshond Max both died within a day of each other – 3/19 and 3/21 after a steady diet for 10 days of ALPO which I had purchased because they had been put on sale.
I am devastated
If you were offended by Rosie O’Donnell’s comments on ABC’s “The View” television show, (the comments that belittled the suffering of pets and their families affected by the tainted pet foods), you can express your feelings to the sponsors of “The View”. The website http://www.stoprosie.com has easy to use links to sponsor websites. That website has its own problem with Rosie regarding her views on 9/11, but you can use the links to sponsors without signing that petition. I am just boycotting sponsors until she issues an apology for the meanness toward dog and cat lovers.
Rachel,
This is not the complete list. At this point, I’m not sure anyone has a really complete list because it is changing so quickly and there are still reports coming in on dogs being poisoned by brands not on the list.
Please check the most recent posting for better lists.
Thanks for barking in!
