Cesar Millan Dog Whispers on Ghost Whisperer — His Side of the Story, Day 1

Thanks to “The Ghost Whisperer” for this artwork

Everybody’s favorite dog whisperer, Cesar Millan is making a guest appearance this week on CBS’s “The Ghost Whisperer.” He’s blogging about the experience and we are glad to be able to share those blogs with you (thanks to Cesar and CBS)! We’ll run each and every one of Cesar’s “Ghost Whisperer” blogs so keep coming back for more!

My only question is, what’s wrong with having one or more ghost dogs around? They don’t eat much and the vet bills are minimal. I guess I’ll just have to watch the show to find out the answer.

“How the Dog Whisperer met the Ghost Whisperer”

My name is Cesar Millan and many of you know me as the “Dog Whisperer” on the National Geographic Channel’s hit show, “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan.” Normally, my job is working with people to turn their problem dogs into good canine citizens…so, how did I end up getting to help “Ghost Whisperer” Melinda Gordon solve her problems with a ghost dog that won’t cross over? It’s actually a pretty cute story.

One of my executive producers and also the co-writer of my books, Melissa Jo Peltier, happens to be married to John Gray, the creator of the Ghost Whisperer series. They are newlyweds and get a lot of mileage out of the coincidence that the Dog Whisperer Producer and the Ghost Whisperer Producer are a couple. One day, Melissa suggested to John that maybe I could help Melinda deal with the problem of what to do about Homer the ghost dog. Since many of the Ghost Whisperer staff and the CBS executives were fans of my show, they loved the idea. And since my whole family are all huge fans of Jennifer Love Hewitt and the show (even though it’s on opposite mine on Friday nights!), I was very excited to participate.

Check back tomorrow for the next blog entry from Cesar!

  1. Victoria

I’m a little surprised that you would have Cesar on your website since his techniques are so controversial.

  2. Julie

    Victoria,
What is so controversial about what Cesar is doing? Yes, asking a dog that is large to submit is probably over the top for the average dog owner. But he has taught us the power of focus, calm submissive energy and it’s effect, the dogs live in present time ( a handy trait for us humans). He ask owners to learn pack mentality, and dog psychology and it works. It’s wonderful to see the dog world having natural order and reason displayed and taught, just like what is and has been happening in the horse world. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated and I truly think interpreting Cesar is highly subjective.

  3. Mudge

    Victoria,
The great thing about Dogster is that it’s open to everyone’s thoughts and ideas. I know many people don’t agree with Cesar’s training methods, but I think that’s the case with many methods — they work for some, and not for others. I personally try to practice calm assertiveness with my Saint pup and it comes in really handy when you’re faced with naughty puppy behavior in a 110+ lb body! But, I have found some of his tips don’t work for me as well.

  4. Joy

    Victoria,

    Thanks for barking in!

As you may notice reading through the blog, we haven’t strayed from controversy. In fact, we’ve probably taken on some issues other blogs and news groups won’t touch.

But that aside, I have to agree with Julie and Mudge. Cesar’s techniques work with suitable circumstances and when used correctly. They won’t work if used once in a while, by someone using only part of the system or by someone who does not have the dog’s best interest at heart.

OMG. I can’t wait to see this episode. I so love Cesar! That’s so hilarious, I wonder if the ghost-dog will cross-over. You know they’re doing all kinds of crazy stuff together. Check out this article on the two of them/the two shows on the Pet Gazette: http://thepetgazette.org/artman/publish/article_279.shtml

  6. Linda Nelson

Three woofs for Cesar Millan! One of the few advocates who takes ‘no chance’ dogs and turns them into ’second chance canine citizens’… Hip, hip, HOORAY!
