Pug Rescue of North Carolina Sues Puppy Mill Owner and Dog Abuser
Joy

This sounds like a great way to attack puppy mills legally! So what I want to know is when is someone going to sue the Hunte Corporation for their propagation of dog abuse by encouraging the growth of puppy mills? Sounds like a fabulous lawsuit for some of our up and coming animal lawyers!

For more information on the Hunte Corporation, check out this previous blog post.

Please be aware before reading this article that there are some upsetting things describing the abused pugs.

Rescue Group to Sue Man Who Abused Dogs

SUMMERFIELD (WGHP) — A canine rescue group in Summerfield, N.C., is awaiting its day in court after it helped rescue about 50 sick and abused pugs from horrible living conditions.

The dogs were found at a puppy mill in Wilson, N.C., in January and brought to Pug Rescue of North Carolina a few weeks later.

The abuses the dogs suffered are obvious. Some were hit in the mouth with blunt-force trauma. Others had displaced hips and missing eyeballs.

Christina Hedrick, who runs the rescue group, has stacks of affidavits from veterinarians that detail the dogs’ ailments.

Darryl Newsome was charged with one felony and four misdemeanors for the abuse.

“He was running a big breeding facility down there,” said Hedrick. “They were running around in urine and feces-type areas … and many were kept outside.”

The vet bills for the rescued dogs have been enormous. “Just in vet bills and medicals, [we're] probably hitting $15,000 and we haven’t gotten halfway through,” said Hedrick.

On Friday, she’ll file a civil lawsuit against Newsome to pay for the problems he caused and to get ownership of the dogs.

I am glad to see other states trying to stop the hunte corp. I live in nevada and am working with the local newspapers and rescue organizations to educate the public about buying from pet stores/puppy mills. There is actually goingto be a protest in front of a pet store who sells puppy mill puppies this coming Sunday in Carson City, Nevada. To everybody: keep up the good work and hopefully eventually the hunte corp can be shut down! Don’t support puppy mills by buying from these pet stores! We need to help these dogs!

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree! More people looking for a new dog or puppy should be aware of rescue groups and should seek a new companion through one of these groups or a shelter.

I recently rescued a Chinese Crested and she was the best dog I’ve ever owned. She had been severely neglected, but when she came around, it was like she KNEW I had rescued her. She seemed so grateful to finally have a loving home.

Adopting an adult dog is the best way to go. There are a lot of benefits in adopting and adult dog. I found this website that lists All the benefits of adopting an adult dog. I hope anyone in the market for a new puppy (or dog) will consider adoption and check out the link provided.
