Dogster Joy Barks in Poem Celebrating Steve Irwin’s Birthday Today
Joy

Thanks to Joy for barking in this wonderful poem her furmom wrote to celebrate the life of one of my favorite people, Steve Irwin!

Let’s keep Steve’s family in our thoughts today! We’ve all lost loved ones and we all know how hard that first year is to get through!

JOY wrote:

“Crikeys mate!” Steve would say,
Making people smile, everyday.
Wrestlin’ crocs, wranglin’ snakes,
Swimming with gators, in the lakes.

He feared nothing, not even death,
Right up till his very last breath.
What must have been his final thought?
Was it agony? Did he feel distraught?

I can’t even image the pain in his face,
Leaving his family without a final embrace.
My heart goes out to each and every one,
For what they’ll surely miss most was the fun.

I hardly ever missed one of his shows,
Always wearing his cool khaki clothes.
Rescuing kangaroos or grumpy crocs,
Or finding those lizards under big rocks.

Always in Australia will you lie in wait,
For Terri, Robert and Bindy at Heaven’s gate.
Surely God’s blessed you with angel’s wings,
And made you keeper of all living things.

For all crocs go to Heaven, it’s got to be true!
For why did he take you, if he didn’t need you?
The world lost a hero, a very dear friend,
Your death I will never fully comprehend.

Thanks for such a great poem. I completely forgot it was his birthday yesterday, but he is always in our famiy’s heart. We are vacationing in Palm Beach FL right now and the ocean totally reminds us of the respect that Steve had for wildlife and the ocean. May he watch over us as we explore this world and all that it has to offer!
