Great story. I live in Georgia and I have a German Shepherd (Callie) who’s nine months old. I love her to death and will never own another breed. I know that there are a ton of great breeds out there, but I can’t see myself with anything else.

I agree witheverything Sally said above about the breed. Callie is exactly what I was looking for and I feel that I have gotten much more as well.

Does anyone know if Hero made it as a working search and rescue dog? I am sure that with so many people interested he found a good home, but I was just curious as to how he’s doing now.

I, too, am a proud owner of a German Shepherd Dog and I am constantly amazed with her intelligence and loyalty. I beg anyone who is interested in owning a dog to first do some research so they can understand the personalities and expected behavior patterns of the breeds they are interested in adopting. Find the breed that works for you so that you and your pet can both be happy.

As the owner of a German shepherd, I am not surprised that he knew instinctively what needed to be done and did it without being told. These dogs are very intelligent and people oriented. I have no doubt that “Hero” will do well in his class. Nothing makes these animals happier than having a job to do. Especially an important one involving people.

This is such a wonderful, heartwarming story. It made my day. I love dogs and stories about heroic dogs. There is nothing like the love of a dog. I’ll remember this story always.

It is obvious that the previous owners did not take the proper cautions for him, so … maybe this was fate…

Let me guess….This dog could open doors or clear a 6 ft fence!
I am happy Hero will be getting the attention he appears to be wanting!
Here these people have a very intelligent dog and they are ready to sign him over? Who sells these morons dogs to begin with?
