Save Houston Dogs From Death by Jan 8, 5 PM
If any of you are looking for a dog, or could possibly foster one, please check these guys out.
We already have one interested Dogster pup, Wrangler, who may need help transporting dogs from Houston, TX to Greenbrier, AK. Contact Wrangler . (Joy’s note — is that Alaska or Arkansas? Wrangler seems to be in Arkansas, not Alaska or AK.)
The thirty dogs [mentioned] here are at the Houston Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care. They will be euthanized MONDAY JAN. 8 at 5 p.m. if they are not adopted or found foster homes before then. If you or someone you know can help, read on.
There currently are over 30 dogs at BARC in Houston who have been there for more than 3 months. The folks at BARC really want them to find homes…. but simply cannot continue to house them. Not only is it inhumane for the dogs to be in small cages for months on end, these dogs are taking up space for other adoptable animals that come into BARC daily. BARC has given us until MONDAY, Jan. 8th at 5pm to find adopters or fosters for these dogs. Otherwise, they will be humanely euthanized. Can you help save a dog? As you can see by the photos, these are beautiful animals and each one has a story to tell.
Most of these dogs need some extra TLC, socialization and life in a home environment to learn rules and what its like to receive love and attention. Very few of them will be house trained, but can learn quickly.
In the title of each photo is the dog’s BARC ID number. After clicking on each photo, you will find a brief description of the animal. On a few of them, I did not write down the sex but we can easily find out that info for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me, Barbara Sands or Julie Keeton (contact info below). One of our volunteers can assist you with locating the animal at the shelter and completing and all the necessary paperwork.
The adoption fee is only $55 (what a deal!!) All of these animals have been spayed or neutered and are current on all vaccinations.
You also can foster these animals to prevent them from being euthanized. You would need to house them until a new home is found. Please let me know if you are interested in doing this and again, we can help you through the process. We have lots of offsite adoption centers at Northwest Mall as well as 6 area Petsmarts where you can bring the animal on the weekend to meet potential adopters. If you’ve never fostered before, some of our experienced fosters also can help you with behavioral issues and other needs.
BARC is the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care
It is located at 3200 Carr St., Houston, TX 77026
The shelter is open Mon-Fri from 10-5:30 and Sat/Sun 12-4.
Please forward to all of your dog-loving friends!! With your help, we save at least SOME of these wonderful dogs!

Will forward this on to fellow innkeepers in Texas

Here’s an important update from Kathy:
UPDATE!!!! Last Chance BARC Dogs Need out by Monday, 1/8
For those of you asking for an update…. here it is! Truly, wow is all I can say! Thanks to all of you, so far 25 of the original 30 dogs from the “last chance email sent on Jan. 4th have found permanent or foster homes. Thank you to everyone who has read, forwarded and responded by coming out to BARC to adopt or foster a homeless animal. You truly have saved lives! Kind of restores your faith in mankind, now doesn’t it?
Could we make it 100%? The 5 dogs remaining are Mojo, Dusty, Toto, Tawny and Ginger. In addition, there are 9 other dogs at the cut-off date, which did not make my original email due to my limited time and photography skills. This certainly was no fault of these dogs….. This email is their last and only chance. I’ve added their photos to this file. That makes 14 TOTAL dogs that need out by Monday, JAN 8th at 5pm. If you are interested in one of these dogs, but absolutely can’t make it on Monday to the shelter, BARC has allowed us to place holds on them until this FRIDAY, JAN. 12th. That is the absolute deadline for holds and it cannot be extended.
Can you help save one of these dogs???? Please double click on the photos and read the comments for a little more information. Don’t hesitate to email or call us for more information.
As I said before, these dogs will require some extra love and attention. Being in a shelter for several months causes many dogs to become distrustful of humans and overprotective of food or toys. For those of you who have or will give these dogs a chance, remember this: “The basic period of adjustment can be anywhere from
six to twelve weeks. If you’re committed you’ll get there. Go into
this with your eyes open…and then stand back and marvel at the transformation. It will knock your socks off!” (from “Second Hand Dog”, Carol Lee Benjamin)
For only $55 you can adopt one of these dogs. You also can provide foster care to prevent them from euthanasia. However, please do not take on a foster if you cannot commit to keeping the animal until a permanent home is found.

Thanks again for reading and forwarding. Together, we’ve made a difference to these lost souls.

Please read! 14 dogs still need to be saved – and don’t forget about the cats that are in the shelter too!
Houston Dogs Update
I believe they’re extending the stay of execution until Friday – which is the VERY last day. They’ve had such a good response that it gives us time to rescue 100% of the dogs by then. Spread the word!!
Thanks Nikki for keeping us informed! Please keep it up!
You’re welcome. I’m concerned that people may not know that there is still time to do something for these dog, but that time is running out!

Oh, this is wonderful – we can sponsor the Houston BARC dogs! I emailed Kathy over at BARC to get more information.
Can you help sponsor? There are 13 dogs left that have to be saved by tomorrow! (Friday, Jan 12.)
Here’s the URL.

If we form some kind of group to sponsor them, maybe we can sponsor all 13 of them and not have it cost any of us too much money! That’s a thought!!
I would be willing to help sponsor these dogs so they will not be put down. Please–someone let me know how I can help these poor doggies….
Thank you so much, Kristen!!
Great news! Kathy passed on my email to Cindy Perini, who is handling the sponsorship part through her rescue group, Scout’s Honor. I sent back an email asking how much do we need to raise to ensure that NONE of the dogs are put down.
Cindy replied:

Hi Debbie!!! Your kindness is so, so touching and thank you so, so very much!!! It costs us $5/day to board a dog, which is $150 a month, and we usually have to board them for one to two months – but ANY amount will be appreciated and will go directly to saving these dogs!! Even donating to cover a few days of boarding will help us!! All of the dogs in the above email link that do not have a foster or adopted next to their name need help. We are also taking Diamond and Bella but they already have a sponsor.
Checks can be made payable to Scout’s Honor Rescue and mailed to Scout’s Honor Rescue, Inc., 1302 Waugh Drive, PMB#245, Houston, Texas 77019-3908 or you can pay via Paypal at http://www.scoutshonor.petfinder.com and click on the Donate Here button.
All of the dogs that remain are all great dogs — just haven’t been able to get adopted through no fault of their own. THANK YOU!!!!!
I think I need to be a little clearer here. The info above is Cindy’s first email to me. Then I responded, asking how much we need to raise in order to save any remaining dogs, so that none are put down. She’ll most likely respond Friday morning.
I was hoping to pawmail Kristen directly, but I don’t see a link to her page. Kristen, I sure hope you come back to read this!
Here’s an update!
Click on the link to save a life!
http://www.scoutshonor.petfinder.com
and go to “make a donation”
Make a donation, $5, $10, $500 – it doesn’t matter.
Laura, the treasurer at Scout’s Honor, will follow up with each PayPal donor to ensure the donation is tagged for the right pet (or BARC dogs in general, if you wish.)
Any amount is great; full sponsorship one dog for one month is $150.
ALL OF THIS MONEY WILL BE USED TO PULL AND BOARD THE BARC DOGS!!!
There are 16 dogs left and Scout’s Honor is so grateful for the help!!
This is tax deductible, so please hold on to your PayPal receipt to claim the tax deduction at the end of the year.
Thanks!!
Great news so far! Dogster members are the best! One Dogster member is adopting Toto, while others have donated money to Scout’s Honor. In fact, so far, 3 Dogster members have donated full sponsorships for 3 dogs for one month!
Check out Toto’s new Dogster page and let’s welcome her to her new family! Her Dogster ID# is 457505. And let’s thank her new mom and Mia for ensuring that one more dog has a good home!
