Call Your Representatives and Urge Them to OPPOSE the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act!

As we’ve been working on shutting down puppy mills, the millers have NOT been asleep! They’ve gotten a bill through the U.S. Senate that would protect them and their despicable businesses! The bill is H.R. 4239 and it would effectively STOP ALL LEGAL ACTIVITY AGAINST THESE SCOUNDELS! We CANNOT let this pass!
PLEASE CROSS-POST THIS MESSAGES AND OTHERS LIKE IT!
Here is what the ASPCA has to say about H.R. 4239, cannily named “the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act.” How scummy is that?! The millers and their money-grubbing supporters are using the word “terrorism” to stop LEGAL proceedings! Is there nothing these scumbags won’t do?
H.R. 4239, the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA), is a bill that could make it a crime punishable by imprisonment to cause any business classified as an “animal enterprise” to suffer a loss of profit—even if the company’s financial decline is the result of legal activities, such as peaceful protests, consumer boycotts or media campaigns. The term “animal enterprise” would include manufacturers, distributors and sellers of animals or animal products, research facilities, pet stores, breeders, zoos, rodeos, circuses, and animal shelters and the like.
While the ASPCA strongly opposes acts of violence, including vandalism, property damage and trespass, this bill threatens to criminalize as “terrorism” otherwise lawful, constitutionally protected acts often utilized by citizens and organizations to effect change. Lawful and peaceful protests that, for example, urge a consumer boycott of a company that does not use humane procedures, could be the target of this provision if the activity resulted in economic damage to the company. The bill would also make it illegal to expose cruel conditions at facilities such as puppy mills and research labs, if exposure of such conditions—even if done lawfully—would result in economic damage to the animal enterprise. There is no exemption in the bill to exclude “economic damage” that results from the disclosure of information about a company’s treatment of animals, which is disclosed through public information.
The AETA has already been passed in the Senate, and a vote in the House is expected very soon. It is critical that you contact your representative immediately to show your opposition to H.R. 4239 and urge him or her to protect our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech by opposing H.R. 4239.

We just received the ASPCA action alert on this today and posted it on our Animal Abuse Commission page. It is absolutely vital that we stop this bill. Not only is it unconstitutional, it will make the actions of the Animal Abuse Commission, and all other advocacy groups on Dogster illegal! Don’t let this happen!!!
Here’s a direct link to the Action Page. Click on the link for HR 4239. You will be directed to a form letter that you can send to your representative.
For our part, President Isabel and I pledge that, no matter what the outcome, we will continue to protest and launch boycotts against any company that uses inhumane practices, including the Hunte Corporation, which we have no doubt is one of the forces behind this bill. If arrested under this act we will take our case all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Do not let the sexual perverts, liars and scumbags in Congress intimidate you from exercising your CONSTITUIONAL RIGHT to free speech.
Oops! It would probably help if we posted the link.

I will join our Dogster President and Attorney General in the cause to stop this bill. It is our Constituional Right to protest and Freedom of Speech. Drag me kicking and screaming for my Constituional Rights! The link has been cross posted to other forums.
This must not go ahead. What in Gods name is happening to this world. When do we the people ever get listened too. Listen and stop this bill. It must be stopped.
Please . someone tell me what a puppy mill is. I live in another country.
Good question Helen.
A puppy mill is a business that breeds puppies only for money and does not care about the welfare or the breeding of the dogs that are in the business or that come from the business. Signs that a breeder is a puppy mill are:
Extremely poor living conditions for the dogs (i.e spending their lives in cages or crates with little or no human interaction other than being fed, bred or having the puppies taken from the mother).
Females being bred at every opportunity such as at first heat, every heat, oftentimes twice a year. They are bred to such an extent that they often experience physical breakdowns very early in life.
Large numbers of dogs being sold from one breeding business and often multiple breeds of dogs.
Little care being taken for the best breedings so that registration papers often cannot be accurately assigned to the correct dogs.
Poor breeding practices so that genetic problems are not addressed and dogs are produced with problems that could have been prevented if even simple care had been taken in planning breedings between suitable dogs.
Many of the puppy mill people work together to hide their businesses by moving them from farm to farm to keep away from inspectors.
Not being open to real inspection by potential buyers other than the corporate types. Oftentimes puppy mill owners who sell to the public will rent “show” homes or other places to foll potential buyers into thinking the puppies were hand raised in a home (the way they should be). When buyers ask about the parents they will not be allowed to meet them.
I could go on Helen but I bet you’ve got the picture by now. In effect, puppy mills are to dogs what slavery is to humans — inhumane, evil and a black mark on the soul of humanity.
