Calling all Dogsters Who Get SKY NEWS!
If you can get SKY News you can support efforts to stop potential Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) in the UK!
You may have noticed the recent rush to ban Rottweilers and others supposedly “dangerous dogs” in the UK. For those of us not living in the UK, there were two recent Rottweiler attacks on children. The press is having a feeding frenzy playing off the fears of some of the public.
One magazine is trying to be a bastion of sanity — K9 Magazine. They are calling for an ownership test to have dogs. How sane is that? Here’s the link to that article. Excellent rant by the way about WHY BSL doesn’t work!
So how can you help? K-9 Magazine Editer Ryan O’Meara is going to be appearing on several TV shows over the weekend. He’ll be speaking against BSL and trying to add some sanity to calm the media chaos. If you can watch and then call in afterwards to support him and the position, you can be one voice speaking peace. He’s told me that some of the shows don’t have set times to appear but one important one does — 10:40 AM on SKY NEWS. You can tune in, root for Ryan and then text message or phone in afterwards.
I feel quite strongly about this also. I do live in a country where Pitt Bulls are not allowed Rottweilers are fine though.
I know that it is unfair to those who want to own these dogs , people who would care for them and treat them well and in turn they would be well behaved dogs. But unfortunately there is an eliment of people that do not care and miss treat them etcThey get them and neglect them or use them for fighting. So in order to stop this happenning they have to make one rule for all as sad as it may seem . I guess we can be grateful that in passing this legistation that a lot of dogs will not end up in the wrong hands and be mistreated.
Although as long as it is not some pollitical ploy for votes. If so then another course of action could be looked at.
I think ownership tests are an excellent means of finding out who is serious about there dog and who is not.
this is not fair. how many times have you seen a rottweiler attack anybody. now that i have read up on it i have seen it. but rottweilers have not attacked as much as pittbulls have. no dogs should be banned. none should be banned at all. they would be banning dogs that havent done anything at all. if it wasnt for my brother i would’ve gotten attacked by my neighbors pitbull and that pitbull was in my yard, so we called the animal control but they just gave her a ticket. before that the dog tried to attack but it wasnt me it was little children in their yard playing and he ran out of his gate and thankfully the childrens parents scared him off and they called the animal control and they gave her a ticket and they said that it was a warning and if this happens again your dog will be put down. we need to put the dangerous dogs down and put the owners in jail because they are just going to get another dog and do it over again. dont ban dogs that didnt do anything. i live in an apartment complex and they dont allow VICIOUS dogs such as pitbulls and rottweilers but i dont feel safe in my apartment at all even when the doors are locked i still have to turn on a light and look around because i dont have the protection of my rottweilers. i have people watching me walking in and out of my car and in and out of my apartment and i dont feel safe and i dont think the apartment rent a cop can help if i need it.that is what is making me really irritated because i lost my best friend to heart surgery and now i cant even have my other best friend because she is a rottweiler. its the owner and everyone will tell you that get to know the dog dont be afraid just be afraid of the ones that are really vicious not the ones that are protective because if your a good person you have nothing to worry about but if you come in my house and you are not supposed to be there then the dog wont make you so comfortable. but if you are welcome at my house then all they want you to do is pet them and they may lick you to death. thats all if you are a good owner your dog wont attack so dont punish the ones that are good.
