Shipwrecked New Zealand Border Collie Found Alive
Joy

And now for some good news from Radio New Zealand!

Shipwrecked dog being lavished with attention

A dog given up for dead by its owners after the boat it was on capsized off the top of the Coromandel peninsula, has been found alive on Great Barrier Island.

The shipwrecked border collie, named Ellie, was found washed up on Saturday morning in Ross Bay, along with the wreckage of the boat.

A man was winched to safety after the 10m launch got into trouble on Friday off Port Jackson, but Ellie was unable to be rescued.

Louise Ward, the manager of the Great Barrier’s Currach Irish Pub, believes the dog survived by finding an air pocket inside the wreckage.

She says Ellie is being lavished with attention while she recuperates on the pub’s couch.
