Florida Shelters Full?
A Florida Dogster wrote in about the shelters in her home state.

Hi,
I remember a WV post from before about their shelters being full. Well, I wanted to alert dogster (and catster) users that right now the Florida shelters are crammed. They are putting down cats and dogs right now because they are toobfull to hold any more animals, and need to make more room.I for one am not the kind of person who knows how to approach this, so I was hoping to get the word out and those that do know what to do can help figuresomething out.
There are feral cats living in the back of my mom’s store right now, and if the shelters weren’t full we would be bringing so they hopefully are not too agressive to find wonderful homes where they are loved.
Sadly the only thing we can do right now is feed these kittens and cats.
Do any Dogsters have any news on this situation or advice for Ellen?

Ms. Kenney,
here’s a suggestion to help with the cats. Take their photos, make sure the photos are close up and cute. Post the photos on the doors to the front of your mother’s store with a sign that reads…Free to Good Home
This should help with some of them, perhaps all!
The best thing you can do to help these little friends is to help them find homes with individuals.
I also live in Florida (Putnam County) and have had the same expierience! I don’t know if it’s funding, lack of prospective families or what but, it is heartbreaking! The Animal Control in or county has been on the news for only keeping animals 3-5 days before putting them down and having very limited hours for visiting. When I checked our web site for Animal Control each time there was one dog for adoption and it was the same one each time! When I was faced with stray animals in my neighborhood I could not find anyplace to take them without knowing they would be killed. The humane Society had a 1 1/2 month wait! That is why I have FOUR dogs! We were able to find a wonderful adoptive home for one dog ourselves.
There has got to be a better way for the sake of all the TRAMPs out there! They deserve better!
Here is a website link that is really good with information about feral cats/kittens and what to do and not do. Let me know if the link don’t show and some how I will get it to you.
I am sure there is a rescue somewhere in your area that deal with feral cats/kitten situation. You need to ask around. I assume because I am in Lee county in Florida.I am finding out there is help out there.
Hi, Joy,
Thank you for publishing this. I see already a few intresting comments
Mark,
That sounds like a good idea and I will have to ask my mother about doing this. I think our only problem would be catching the kittens. I’m not sure about the free to good home thing, but that would be good and if I do that I will ask everyone to apply… don’t want the kittens to fall in the wrong hands!
Debra,
I’m so glad you were able to find a home for one of them. That is wonderful
Sandy,
Could you maybe try emailing it to me? star @ clarivo.com Or (I’m guessing you have a cat on catster or a dog on dogster), you could try sending it to my doggie, Mrs. No. (A Lab) Her ID# is 68379.
The link didn’t show
I’ve been looking around for a good place that would, but so far I’ve only been able to look at places in different towns, because I live in Port St. Lucie and I think there is only one shelter. (that I know of)
I hope I can find these kittens a good home. They are taking the dumpster they are living under, and I don’t want them to be completely homeless!
Thanks again everyone!
Ellen
