Joaquin Phoenix Fights for New Dog Law in California
Joy

Joaquin Phoenix by Kevork Djansezian

Dogs in California have a new hero, Joaquin Pheonix. This article was recently published on SFGate.com.

Actor Joaquin Phoenix is spearheading a new campaign to ban the chaining of dogs in California.

The star has teamed up with animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals and penned letters to every top California politician, asking them to support a new bill, which would make attaching chains to dogs a state offense.

In his heartfelt letter, Phoenix points out, not only does chaining lead to lonely suffering for dogs, it also presents a very real danger to people, especially children who wander into the area where dogs are kept chained.

He writes, “Life at the end of a chain is miserable. Senate Bill 1578 would give animal control officers a much-needed tool to help protect our canine companions from long-term neglect and our communities from dog attacks, a problem that has engendered increasing public concern in recent years.”

  2. Lucia

Okay, so mom thinks he’s sexy. (Don’t tell my dad!) And we all loved Walk the Line. We don’t agree with a lot of PETA’s beliefs, but this is one of the causes that I do support.

Whoa. You all really need to go to the SFGate.com site and read the posted comments. People just are not getting what chaining a dog is.

Chaining a dog is a dog living outside 24/7 on a chain or spending most of it’s time outside alone on a chain. To place a dog on a rope for a short period and with supervision is not chaining. DUH!

I am placed on a rope when I go to the park, and when I go to grandmoms ’cause she does not have a fenced yard. I am supervised and not left alone. If mom can’t supervise me, then I can’t go.

I am also supervised in my own fenced in back yard and never go out alone.

I say, what’s the point in a dog if isolated to loneness. That is cruel and this is what needs to stop.

He, he, he, Lucia, my mom is a big fan of Joaquin, as well. She is so glad that apart of his sexy appearance he has a good heart, too. Way to go, Mr. Phoenix!

My son recently purchased a Husky. She is about 14 weeks
old. When she plays with our dog and seems to get angry,
her blue eyes instantly turn red. They seem to be like rivers
of red overcoming the blue. This last only a second or two.
What causes this? It is both so interesting and scary at the
same time. It is like a rush of redness.
