I have a cute Schnauzer that is 9 months old. Her ears aren't supposed to stand striaght up but they do and we hated it, so we started having her wear earrings and they would fold down from the wieght on the ends. She looks so cute with them. Everyone thinks we pierced them, but we didn't. We bought rhimestones from Walmart and used a special glue to glue them on. They will last her for weeks until the fur grows them out. We have her clipped short on her ears. They are still there after 6 weeks when she goes in for her next grooming and the groomer shears them off. I put them back on that evening when she is sleeping. She doesn't even know she has them on. I put a smaller pair on the other side of the ear, so when you look at them, you would think they are really peirced. This glue is NOT super glue, dries instantly almost and easy to use. If you are interested contact me and I will let you know the name. cruzah@msn.com

I am a veterinary technician. I've had clients ask to have it done. We can't do it ethically, as our oath states we will not harm a dog. Sticking a sharp object into the sensitive skin and flesh of an animal for no medical reason is harm. And yes, it hurts. Dog ears are not the same as human ears. Also, there is a significant chance of infection, as dog ears are hairy, and dog's don't know not to scratch at it, lay on the dirt, etc with it. It will hurt for a while, and like I said, is risking infection and not providing a medical benefit, which goes against the veterinary oath.

oh please, I would love to pierce my 2 new kittens ears. People pierce baby's all the time. Cruelty is when you don't take of your kitten, or dog, truethfully, what is the big problem with it. If a vet will do it, so then do it. Vicki

I have a Jack Russel mix who's ears stick up. I want to get her ears pierced but I also want it to be safe for her. I called her vet today and the receptionist had never heard of dog ear piercing, but she thought it sounded so cute! Now I need to check other vets and see if they'll do it. I'm nervous about doing it myself. I agree with other statements that if parents can get their babies pierced right out of the womb, will it really hurt a dog that much more? As long as you take care of cleaning it, it should only hurt for a second as it's pierced, right?

I do not understand why on earth you'd want to put your pets through something like that. For those of you with piercings, do you remember the soreness? The possibility of infection? The fact that dogs ears are made of much, much softer, more delicate tissue than human ears?

You're supposed to care for your pets, not use them to accessorize yourself. Jesus.

Hi-
For sure its a good idea. I have had a mini pin for 16 yrs that I just had to be put down because she was sick and she had an earing in since she was 6 months old. DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF !!! that is cruel. Talk to your vet and hope he is cool but money talks if He/she gives you a hard time. The old mini pin that I had "cloi" had it on the bottom portion of her ear and there are to many vessels that run through there . It took her appx one month for it to heal . I even had to put her on antibiotics. I just recently purchased 2 mini pins. A blue one "GEENIE" and a black one "CORY". When it was time to spay them I told my vet to do it but only if i promised never to tell anyone what he did. I figurewd that If you place it on the top portion of the ear where there is extra skin there is absolutely no infection. But you really need to get it when they are puppies so they can get used to it. If not i do not suggest it If you would like I can send you pictures of them. Not because they are mine, but they are really cute! good luck
